I haven't been paying much attention to the Rebekah Jones saga, one way or the other, until recently.

Turns out she's a total fraud...

It seems like most colleges were requiring mandatory vaccinations prior to Covid-19. My daughter, most of her friends, most of our friends children who are entering college, all required immunization records prior to enrollment.

Maybe you're just so old... ;)

But seriously - logically it makes sense - Academia is just another indoctrination tool of the Authoritarian CTRL-Left.

Yes, but we were talking colleges :)

I know i did not have to cough up ( no pun intended ) anything when i went to college. Other than cash. Lots of cash.

You have to provide vaccination records to get your kid into primary and secondary school.

I felt an energy ebb after my shot. But it is consistent with an energy ebb I've been having since I hit my late 40s... so, I just chalked it up to that. Maybe it was a side effect - but it wasn't worse than anything else life is throwing at me in old age.

Mon May 24 2021 18:57:15 EDT from Nurb432

All weekend for me. Sunday was worse, marginally.  Today im 'ok' but really out of energy.

Mon May 24 2021 05:06:52 PM EDT from LoanShark
It wasn't horrible or anything, and it passed after about 3 hours, but it was distracting enough to my mental focus that I went and lied down for a bit.

OK. Rebekah Jones got herself fired from her Florida government job building a covid dashboard (based on ArcGIS and very similar to the dashboard built by Johns Hopkins which was also based on ArcGIS)

She got fired over insubordinate, unilateral changes that she made to the way the data was presented, and for crashing the system due to locking people out unilaterally, and for speaking to the press--she had released some infographics that were not in sync with the official infographics.

Looks like she had some differences of opinion about the way the data should be bucketed, but spun it into some huge conspiracy theory about being pressured to "delete cases and deaths" by the DeSantis administration.

(Apparently, state epidemilogists were following CDC guidelines, but Jones wanted to do everything her way.)

It all looks like a bunch of nothingburger from an attention-seeking narcissist/grifter...

I know how she feels.  For what its worth you can tell her you know someone who did come out the other side ok.

Subject: The Safety of COVID-19 Vaccinations—We Should Rethink the Policy

But this report is troubling and the numbers seem credible:

"Currently, our estimates show that we have to accept four fatal and 16 serious side effects per 100,000 vaccinations in order to save the lives of 2–11 individuals per 100,000 vaccinations, placing risks and benefits on the same order of magnitude."

I'm sure it reduced my lifespan by a measurable amount when i was basically blackmailed into it. Perhaps that was part of the plan. Who knows.

I think the thing this study probably misses is -

Are the people who are most likely to experience fatal or severe complications from the vaccinations - generally the same people more likely to experience fatal or severe complications from the illness?

I bet there is a strong correlation.

Best current estimates of covid IFR by age:

0-17 years old: 20 deaths/million infections
18-49: 500 deaths/mil
50-64: 6,000 deaths/mil
65+: 90,000 deaths/mil ( = 9% )

source: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/planning-scenarios.html

I take it as axiomatic that covid is here to stay, and everyone will be infected with it eventually unless vaccinated. (You don't know anyone who's managed to avoid the flu all their life.)

So. The study cites "16 serious side effects per 100,000 vaccinations", which is 160/mil. These are not *deaths*, these are just *serious side effects.*

So: I'm confused about the mathematical framework that this study/predictive model is using; it gives somewhat different results from my look at the data. But it still finds that although the risks are on the same order of magnitude, the risks are slightly lower in the vaccination scenario.

Studies show that the current vaccines are highly effective at preventing hospitalization and almost 100% effective at preventing deaths. It's hard for me to square that with their NNTV - what am I missing here. It's not the way we're accustomed to looking at the numbers.

all that's based on a cursory skim of the study. I don't have time for an in-depth read.

I think their NNTV parameter may only make sense during a finite time range, and if so that may be a major flaw.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I guess LA just re-instituted mask mandate, even for vaxed people.  "the new strain.. cower in fear you peasants! "  and in the same headline "CDC is "rethinking prevention measures, even for the vaccinated"

Here we go again, i figured by fall we would be all banished to our homes again. About on track.

We bought season passes to our usual ski resort again, for the 2021-22 season. This winter we didn't get out much, partly because of my foot injury and mostly because of the pandemic.

Things have got to get back to normal at some point, so this is a bit of a leap of faith, but I guess we'll probably be fine.

I've been exposed to The Corona 4 times now: infected in Feb/Mar 2020, exposed to my infected girlfriend for weeks last December (no symptoms on my side), and then vaccinated twice. I think I've earned some immunity.

If you lived in NY and tried to ski in VT this past winter it would have been a shitshow. VT almost completely banned travel (though this was not really enforced AFAIK), Killington had all kinds of restrictive policy... this is all supposed to be back to normal this fall, but I hope the policymakers do not backtrack..
