Not the way you remember it. Every now and then, some of the people
who were behind it bring up something or other using the name to draw

attention to whatever they're doing at the time.

(Contrast to another classic BBS which was "resurrected" by people who

had nothing to do with the original...)

which one are you talking about? IG?

Posted three years ago ... might be difficult to remember what I had in mind at the time.  I can't even remember what I had for breakfast today  :)

I think you were talking about one of the BBSes that begins with a letter of the alphabet.

Ok, so that rules out "4CHAN - THE DIAL-UP EXPERIENCE"

Guys, are there ever anyone answering in the chat?

Also, could you guys help explain to a beginner what the difference is between the Abandon and the Skip commands?

It is best to ask these questions in the Citadel support room.

A- Abandon this room where you stopped reading, goto next room.
Stops marking message as read at the last message you read.  IF you abandon the room and come back to the room you will start where you left off.

S-Skips current room without making its messages old
Skips the room without marking the messages read.

Every once and a while someone is actually in chat at the same time as another person.  They may or may not be in the mood to chat with each other.

Now on to the citadel support room for further support!

I'm out one condominium until the repairs from the flooding that happened yesterday are finished. Probably several days from now.

Meanwhile, I'm living in a third world location that lacks broadband internet and decent cell phone service.

Very, very good chance I will lose my sanity in the next few days. Or remember what living without an internet is like. Unfortunately, the television plays nearly 24-hours a day in this location in which I'm staying, which could possibly damage me beyond repair. I dunno.

Hope you have things figured out by now Fleeb, but if not, and (I don't know where you live actually), we could arrange a not third world experience for you here in Minnesota as well.  As long as "Minnesota" means (somewhere around Minneapolis or Moorhead MN).

So... it's going to be anywhere from 2 months to 4 months, although I don't exactly have an official word on it yet.

And, quite by surprise, the home in which we're living for the while has FIos, so my broadband needs are met.

It's just very, very awkward, living in this other place.

I live in Maryland, about fourty minutes north of DC, although I work out of Annapolis and commute twice a week to the office. Although, the home in which I'm staying for the while is located about 30 mins from the office, so I'm going to the office daily until I can finally move back in.

I think Melvin might be more freaked out than I about this. He's remarked about how calmly I seem to be taking all of this. Inside, though, I really, really want to go back home. I feel out of sorts, and I'm having to learn new routines to get through the day.

Thank you all for the thoughts.
I think I need to find a new place in which to live after this condo gets fixed up... sell this puppy and move to a house or something, because I don't see retiring to a condominium.

fleeb - do you really want to be taking care of a house at this point?

Well, that's the sticky bit, isn't it?

I can try to take care of the house myself, and maintain a sense of control over my finances, or I can have constantly escalating condominium fees punctuated by random events like this where I have absolutely no control at a time in my life when I might not have the income to accomodate it.

Ideally, I'd move into a retirement village or something. But that has its own issues that I haven't vetted yet.

Kinda makes you laugh at those public service announcements where people would try to make that spiffy catch phrase work: "Life... Be in it."

Or you can rent. Ownership isn't for everyone. That having been said, I *love* being a homeowner; I love repairing, maintaining, and upgrading my house; but those "random events" happen just as much in a house as they do in a condoplex. What you have with a single family house is _control_. All of the maintenance and repair still happens at your expense but you get to do every bit of it your way -- including the decision of whether to fix it yourself or hire someone.

We have some control. The difference, really, is that you can't do any preventive maintenance, and you can't control the stupidity of your neighbors, which can have an impact on your home.

This said, I plan to upgrade my floors from carpeting to hardwood (or something like it) depending upon expense, which I can do now that they're gutting the whole place and replacing everything.

Looks like my personal insurance is going to cover everything I need and then some. I'll be throwing away a lot of my furniture and replacing it, at their recommendation.

So, truly, it'll be a new condominium when I return. After nearly 20 years, it'll be like new again, paid for by two insurance policies (mine, and the condominium insurance).

Just have to get through the next few months.
