Hi! I'm new at the community. I have just installed citadel on a
raspberry pi 4 and i have configured it with apache2 when i wanted to
configure it with it´s internal http server and now I am not able to
uninstall it to start de setup proces from the begining. Can someone

Are you using our build of Citadel, or the one that is in the raspbian repository?
The one in the repository is probably out of date, and there's probably no one here who supports it, but -- you can try "apt remove citadel-suite" to make it go away.

Then use our build :)

Well ... yes, in theory, but remember, the modern Citadel system no longer supports room sharing in the traditional sense. I'm sure we could budge together some scripts to import/export, but at some point we'd need to translate between data formats. The old BBS software will likely import/export in its native on-disk format, and our Citadel will import/export in RSS format (assuming we use the interfaces that are easiest to connect to, which is RSS).

Yeah, I'll have to read up on the utilities from then...

MsgAdd and MsgOut were for networking, but I had scripts set up to run via the ctdlcnfg.sys settings

I wouldn't know what to put for the nodename, or domain parameters, nor if you could configure an output file for such.

I'll look around Uncensored a little more and send you a Mail message with possible room(s) to test with?

Thanks, IG! :)

Just for testing purposes, I copy/pasted the text from our messages here, and pasted into a plain textfile, hoping that MsgAdd would read and add them into my BBS in the same-named room.

It seems to process the file, but "0 total message processed for Uncennsored"...

I'm not sure how the formatting of the file should be, but here's what I tried, from reading NetHack3.doc:

20Feb20<0>23:37<0>Uncensored<0>US 612 470 9635<0>Bob Randale<0>Citadel Support<0>

and the message text below.

Do you remember the requirement(s) for using MsgAdd? Mine was set up for the scripts to do it all...

I've never operated a Citadel-68K or even a Citadel-86 so I don't know how the MSGADD and MSGOUT utilities work. However, my guess is that they work with Citadel-68K's native on-disk message format.

That format starts with 0xFF to signal the start of a new message, followed by a sequence of fields, each comprised of a single character indicating what field it is, then the value, then a 0x00 terminator. The final field in the message is "M" followed by the message text and a final 0x00.

I believe this is the format described in nethack3.doc but I could be mistaken.

I was trying to go by this in VII.5 Examples, but I'll try to find the fields you mention:

VII.5 An example

        So, a message on Test System (nodeId US 612 470 9635, nodeName 'C86

     Test System', domain 'MN') in room CitaNews) that looks like this:

         86Feb01 @ 10:01 from John Flash @ C-86 Test System _ MN

        This is a test.

       with a message ID of 5644 might look like this during transmission on

      the net:

       D86Feb01<0>C10:01<0>S0 5644<0>NC-86 Test System<0>OUS 612 470

      9635<0>AJohn Flash<0>RCitaNews<0>XMN<0>MThis is a test.<LF><0>

         Clear as mud, right?

Thanx! :)

Yup. I remember reading that exact section of the docs many years ago. So if you want to import messages using MSGADD, you probably have to write a program to translate messages into that format. My suggestion is that you download messages from a system like Uncensored using RSS rather than trying to scrape the readable messages, because then you can import other RSS feeds as well (plus it's designed for computer-to-computer connections, of course).

To go in the other direction, you'll need to use MSGOUT and translate that format *to* RSS, and have the operator of the other system (such as me) pull that feed from somewhere.

By the way ... the best way for you to see the format first-hand would be for you to enter a few messages into your system, export them with MSGOUT, and then open the resulting file in a hex editor.

Over 16 characters (24), works through webcit.

Over 16 chars  does not seem to work through imap or text client.

Yes, on the Amiga, there are REXX scripts that can be used like that.

Thanks again!

Ok, the fix is complete. If you run Easy Install again you will receive version 929 of Citadel Server, which has been repaired and thoroughly tested to resolve the issue with email aliases disappearing when you try to add/change/remove them.....

If Easy Install is ran again on an existing system, will it (attempt to) save the current settings, or do you need to set up again ?

Hi.

If any of my users receives mail containing attachments, these attachments are corrupted and can't be opened in any way.
It doesn't matter whether you try with a mail client or with a browser and WebCit.

Currently i'm on Citadel 925 with WebCit 917 on a Pi 3b, and preparing to update because of the aliases fix.

Is there some configuration that needs tweaking, or some other known solution for this ?

If you originally installed Citadel using Easy Install, you can run Easy Install again as many times as you want, and it will always upgrade you to the current version. It will even detect components that do not require upgrade and skip them.

This is not a substitute for taking a full backup before every upgrade, of course.

I am unable to reproduce this problem. Can you try sending the same attachment to your account here on Uncensored and see if it behaves the same?

If it only does this on the Pi then maybe there's an ARM-specific (or endian-specific?) bug. We have to isolate what's making it happen.

This pertains to subscribe/unsubscribe notifications..

 I have been testing some new lists I set up, using /listsub and am finding a different from line on every notification email, each with some odd, extended characters in the from line:

eg

Subject: Please confirm your list subscription
Message-ID: ...
From: "Citadel" <Ѐ<X>

Subject: Please confirm your list subscription
Message-ID: ...
From: "Citadel" <À,&@X>

Subject: Please confirm your list subscription
Message-ID: <5EB49EDE-0000AB37@remnantedu.org>
From: "Citadel" <°¤8X>

I took a look at serv_listsub.c and see EmailSender passed to quickie_message(); but not exactly sure what is going on here.

OneRNCfg = CtdlGetNetCfgForRoom(qrbuf.QRnumber);
  136     if (OneRNCfg != NULL) {
  137         found_sub = CountThisSubscriber(OneRNCfg, *email);
  138         if (StrLength(OneRNCfg->Sender) > 0) {
  139                EmailSender = RoomMailAddress = ChrPtr(OneRNCfg->Sender);
  140         }
  141     }

Is this a room configuration issue, or something expected from the Global Address book, or yet another thing I am missing?

Citadel 921 with WebCit 921, server build 921, Debian 9, easyinstall btw..

I'll do the update first sometime this weekend, then see if i can find out more about the cause of this.
Could it be a memory problem, i guess there's not a huge amount of memory available (well gigabytes are a lot to me).

The file I was able to export contains a message I'd intended for testing purposes is Nodes.add.

Nodes.out is what I'd attempted to add to my BBS, and Nodes.tst was my 1st attempt.

Since the export (MSGOUT) worked, but the import attempts (MSGADD) failed, I'm at a loss without manually typing, and that's what I want to avoid.

Any suggestions? Feel free to Mail me or email to ddrandale@yahoo.com

Thanks for the suggestion.

I created a small file, containing this text:

This is a text file created by the standard windows text editor.
It is not a large file, but i'm sure it will be corrupted once it's sent.

So let's see what will happen to it.

And this was what was received in the attachment (i'm not sure it will show exactly as i received due to the corruption)
Hmm seems there's more to it, as the font size has changed after copy / paste, and indentation was added:
