Did you try '/usr/local/citadel/setup' , that is for the easy-install version, which is recommended.

Did sudo the install?  Should be able to write to /usr/local if you have root access.

Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Failure) Anyone?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello Citadel Team,  I wondering if there is a bug in the out-going message code.  When a sent email is rejected by the recipient I am getting hundreds, even over a thousand rejection notices.  At first I thought someone found a way to spam by sending out rejection notifications multiple times.  The out going message queue is always empty yet Citadel sends "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" in the subject line and sometimes with the original email attached.  This often goes on for over a week. Typically I use a filter and sent the messages to a folder which can accumulate over a thousand rejection messages for a single rejected sent email.  In fact sometime I get a series (100s) of rejection notices time-stamped exactly one minute apart.  Is this normal?

Thanks

Thanx for your input.

i did an upgrade to debian buster, easy install worked after that.

Maybe the problem I had, were the old installation files of the old easy-install, I think, I had the problem in the past, but I can't find the old posts here :-(

Thu Sep 12 2019 16:34:22 EDT from "s3cr3to" <s3cr3to@uncensored.citadel.org> Subject: Re: easyinstall on Raspbian fails
Seeing the error:
lib/stringbuf.c:52:13: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or
'__attribute__' before 'compress_gzip'
int ZEXPORT compress_gzip(Bytef * dest, size_t * destLen,
^~~~~~~~~~~~~

And, of course I don't known nothing about the C compiler used by IGT/Art

But wandering in the git code for
https://github.com/madler/zlib/blob/master/zconf.h

First time I see an empty #define:

....
#ifndef ZEXTERN
# define ZEXTERN extern
#endif
#ifndef ZEXPORT
# define ZEXPORT
#endif
#ifndef ZEXPORTVA
# define ZEXPORTVA
#endif
....

Then I found a good explanation, so, looks like there is not an error.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/13892191/are-empty-macro-definitions-allowed-in-c-how-do-they-behave

Unless there is a hidden caracter in the code in stringbuf.c?

Regards

Subject: maximum number of Mails displayed wit webcit in a room

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

is it possible, that webcit only can display a certain number of messages?

In one room there are exactly 7005 messages that I can see in webcit, but there are more messages, newer messages I can't see.

Thunderbird my mail client shows me all messages, but even Thunderbird tells me, the number of messages is "7005+"

Is that a magic numer : 7005?

Any Ideas

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

when I updated from debian stretch to buster, citserver does not work
any longer. when I restart it from the webcit webpage, it broadcasts
this:

If you want Citadel to provide you with that functionality, check
the output of "netstat -lnp" on Linux, or "netstat -na"

Generally this means that some other program is listening on one of the ports Citadel wants to use.

Most of the time this will be a mail relay such as exim4. Identify which program this is, and shut it down. Remove it from the system too, because you won't need it.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am trying to set up my Outlook client to use Citadel as its server
with SMTP and POP3.  I seem to connect to the POP3 server fine, but
the SMTP attempt is returning an error that my credentials are not
accepted.  I am using the same credential for the outgoing server as
for incoming.  Any ideas what might be going on here?

Try port 587 instead of port 25. If you are attempting to connect from anywhere other than your local network, your ISP might be blocking port 25.

It's also possible that some other mail program is listening on port 25 and you need to shut it down. Try telnetting to port 25 and see if Citadel answers, or if some other program answers.

I am unable to install Citadel using the Easy Install Script.

It gives this error and terminates-

configure: error: libical/ical.h was not found and is required.

To provide an answer we would need to know what Linux distribution and version you are running.

The packages are known to be problematic on the latest Debian. They made some weird change. Use the Easy Install distribution.

That's not normal. If you could post one of the rejection notices (with as much of the header intact as possible) we might be able to figure it out.

Citadel's outgoing mail code is actually libcurl these days, so it would be surprising to find a bug in it. Maybe it's a configuration issue.

We used to send it to mail-archive.org but we were getting abusive spam from the people at Zimbra so we had to stop it. Sorry.

This is the best I could copy, from message source.

It says "X-Mailer: Citadel 917" because it's the only notice I saved, but I'm getting the same results after the update to Citadel 927.

I've  sent another email to an address that rejects.  I'll post that when the rejection notices start coming in.

I there a better way to look at the email in raw for more info?

Thanks for the interesting software , just a quick question [of no particular importance] does jabber "server to server" work? is it a thing ? or a future thing maybe?

new site is https://www.rhun.co.nz.

My first experience with spamassassin [traumatised] - its an aggressive little bugger isnt it? and i was wondering why email wasnt working? well after actually configuring spamassasin correctly or at least my version email works a treat.

apologies if this isnt the correct place for this
