Not sure at this point. But the damage i am seeing, small batteries would not do that. And i guess it was mentioned that the supply chain for this stuff would have come thru Iran.. Adding more questions than answers.
Pager devices were mostly a Chinese brand, but they claim they don't actually make those, just that they licensed their brand name to be used by some other manufacturer ( i forget the country now.. but i'm thinking middle east too ) So even more questions...
And of course Israel has yet to claim responsibility, so its still 'presumption' it was them. As far as we know it could have been us..

Reports of more devices, now even radios, laptops, TVs more pagers
going up in flames over there in Lebanon.
Something odd afoot.
Has it been confirmed that the devices were tampered with, or has Israel figured out how to highjack Li-Ion charge regulators, either with malware or some spooky remote means?
ok i found the actual quote on the manufacturing:
"The president of Taiwan-based Gold Apollo said that the pagers that exploded in Lebanon had been made under license by a company based in Hungary"
Lot of unknowns, and a lot of international heat coming if its ever admitted how/who. Lots of that goes into civilian hands. its not 'military hardware' but 'consumer hardware'.
Wont get into if i think its right or wrong, but i know the overall reaction will be poor.
Thu Sep 19 2024 10:28:38 EDT from fandarelI saw a photo of one of the "walkie-talkie"s that exploded yesterday. It was clearly an Icom unit, though there wasn't enough left to confirm whether it was a commercial model or amateur radio. Japanese-designed, but likely manufactured in China. Neither country is particularly friendly to Mossad or the IDF, so I'm left to assume they were shipped through a friendly country (probably USA) at some point. CIA is almost certainly involved or at least in the loop.

Its being reported at this point that Israelis did it, by
shipping in tampered devices and waited for them to be 'fully
distributed' before setting them off. ( still not sure how you
kill people with such a small device. .but whatever )
A little ball of plastic explosives the size of a toenail packs a whole lot of kaboom.
Oh, sure, i have seen barrels blow up with tiny amounts. C4 is more powerful than smokeless powder. But i just don't see it being deadly ( unless it happened to be in your face or something ), tho i can see it causing bad injuries you might die from later .. but then again, these boxes may be bigger than my pager was.. I'm going off that. Cant put much in those things.

If they are old models, that makes it even stranger how someone was able to do this. Perhaps years in the making? A long term contingency plan?
Or are they still being made, just old tech? ( a quick search, mostly eBay.. so not new )
Sun Sep 22 2024 19:03:56 EDT from fandarelTurns out the radios were Icom IC-V82. Older 2m ham HTs. So not only are Hezbollah cheap bastards, but they're also polluting the ham bands with their terrorist coordination garbage. And this is a security improvement over cellphones how?
radios dont report back geo locations as they move around. My understanding this was the bigger reason they dropped using phones. A 2ndary is of course towers.. easy to knock out or disable services and its not available in a lot of desolate locations anyway. ( unless its satellite phone i guess, but they could still disable sim cards in-mass ).
Sure, have to talk in 'code' since anyone can listen in, and transmission can get you located if you are not careful ( short burst, constant movement ), but when they are just receiving orders, cant really locate them.

The "official" answer is that they don't know what was in the pagers that made them explode. The truth is that it was a small amount of pentaerythritol tetranitrate. The battery in the pager would of course join in with the explodey fun once the explosion begins, but it does not appear that overvolting the battery was the source of the detonation.
That makes sense, of course, because an overvolted battery doesn't pop quickly enough to be used as a weapon.
Yes i don't see a battery doing that. Best they could hope for is fire.
Wonder what it would be like if Tesla sent out a command to roll up windows, lock all the doors, and set all their cars on fire one weekend... or someone hacked the network and did it for them.

Not read details, but some sort of new push in our military to be 'war ready with china' by 2027... This is the current expected invasion time of Taiwan, and we get to step up and get directly involved.
That is right around the corner.
Should have got gas yesterday.
"Crude oil spikes 4% on fears Iran preparing to directly attack Israel"
"Intelligence reports that Iran is planning to directly attack Israel within the next 12 hours, targeting areas in northern Tel Aviv"
Hang on to your hats, if this turns out to be true.
I missed the news update. . so they did start?
And just like that ... the missiles are flying. Welcome to world war 3.
Rumor is Israel will be targeting oil fields in retaliation. Soooooo up goes gas prices more. Fill up your tanks this morning. If Iran strikes back, then the next round targets their nuclear facilities. ( which is not a bad thing )
