I know one that still has an AOL address.

I guess they are about like yahoo at this point. Mostly email and 'filtered news'

My Yahoo mail address is still active.

It gets about 5 non-spam mails a year

yahoo was setup to be a destination for spam.  they automatically sell all newly created accounts to the spam lords.

Gmail has a feature you can use if you need to give an email address out but I worried about spam or junk mail from the company that needs the email.

If you add a "+" at the end of your user name, and then some identifying text you can find out who sold you out.

Example:  original_user_name+amazon@gmail.com

Any email sent to that email address shows up in your regular inbox.  You can create filters for it if need be.

👍
This is good to know.

I suppose you can go into your profile and add the +<text> to your e-mail address and rat them out after the fact, if you have access to the profile, after the fact, too.

I have a few "+xxxx" accounts where I added the name in the settings of gmail so I can reply using the "+xxxx" username.

You don't need to create anything on the gmail side, when the new website asks you for your email you enter the email with the "+name" on the new website.

That's interesting. And it'll work great until the bottom feeders catch on and start stripping/changing it.

I prefer [ https://www.spamgourmet.com ] which allows you to use disposable email addresses that don't require manual creation, and don't disclose the true email address.

I found that some places block 'anonymous' email domains.

The feature has been around for a long time, and several of you are only finding out about it now. I am not too worried about it.  I mostly use the feature for legitimate website.  If you want a double layer of protect but still want to filter spam use a throwaway gmail with the plus character.

The feature was not advertised well or we would have heard of it.  Problem is the people that are in the business of spamming you, the ones you want to avoid, i guarantee they know about it..

I suppose that as long as the "legitimate" mailers hang on to the +suffix, you can configure your mail system to filter those out. My biggest regret with regard to my work email was using my real email address and phone number when I went to Cisco Live some number of years ago. Vendors aren't supposed to sell the list of contacts they made at a trade show, but we all know they do. Now I get tons of calls and emails from people who know my name and title.

Lately I've been getting a few emails on my personal account from people who know my real name too. Still trying to figure out what dipshit sold me out there.

When I sign up for nearly anything online, I always use SpamGourmet. You get to send me three emails and then the address stops working. You can even go to their web site and see how many messages have arrived for each disposable address. For some, there are tens of thousands.

This would be of interest to IGnat's son.

Apparently the residents of Poland have no idea how train crossings work.  This channel is filled with people not stopping at an active train crossing, hitting or getting hit with the crossing guard, or backing up and going forward when the gates are down, and general confusing at the crossing.

One thing I noticed is the gates seem to be made out of balsa wood because they break at the slightest touch.  They do seem to have cameras at every crossing.

One of the videos with several examples.

It is odd how the lines in the road do not line up with the gates, and the gates stop working or break with the slightest touch.  Drivers can't seem to figure out what to do at a crossing.
