They've been telling us for YEARS that if we don't like twitter, we
can build our own platform. Now that twitter is sold, lefties are
freaking out and not a single one of them is saying "I'm building a
new platform." No, all of them are just "where do we go now?" The
thought of building some new amazing platform isn't crossing their
minds. It is purrplexing.
1. The way you are using first-person plural pronouns suggests that you are on the side of freedom, no-censorship, possibly even right-leaning. If that is the case, yay! So happy to have you here among us.
2. If they want their own platform, then they should ... (wait for it) ... LEARN TO CODE! haha
In a perfect world, Twitter would add some federation protocols so that people could follow others across sites.

Ya, I am right leaning. Freedom? Everyone deserves freedom. Censorship? Nah. I'm really close to being a free-speech absolutist. If you follow a recent twitter conversation between me and @Tigersharke, you can even find a little snip of what I think should be done with illegals.
I also think everyone should get a say.
I'm even a bit grey about things like slander and 'organizing bad things'. ( slander, well, should be some ramifications if you do lie to hurt others, but still, you should be able to say it .. and organizing.. at one point our founding fathers organized a revolution .. so a bit torn on that too. )

Damn you beat me to it. I just spent 10 minutes scrolling through this room's history looking for the posts about the UK's new ministry of truth so that I could quote it and say "hey now we've got our very own!" I'm starting to think maybe that didn't happen in this room...we sure have posted a lot about Ukraine here.

The Biden "Administration" is setting up a "Disinformation Governance Board" within DHS (Department of Homeland Security). This is what is being referred to as the "Ministry of Truth" you might have heard of in a number of 'MURICAN! news outlets.

I think everykitty would like to see this. I think now it's downgraded to just endless harassment and depersoning.

It is actually reminiscent of the Freenode takeover a year or two ago.
The level of scree-ing and head-exploding and misinformation spread by
the incumbant team was enough to convince me to separate myself from
the whole network, both the old one and the new libera.chat.
The only difference is that everyone packed up and founded/moved to a
new network, and the new owner of the old network actually did run it
into the ground. It is yet to be seen whether anything similar will
transpire at Twitter.
Thank you for saying this so I didn't have to say it myself. Agreed 100%.
Too bad many FOSS developers can only be reliably reached over Libera these days. I really developed a dislike for them during the split.

Not really. There are lots of social media packages or bundles that can act as such out there. If you feel like a dog trapped in a man's body and have some friends that feel as you do, you can deploy a forum, citadel instance of Fediverse instance for your weirdos and you without having to know what C++ is.
I would agree for small closely-knit communities. but if you want to be out in the big world and have millions of users. knowing how to maintain what you use, at a code level, is a real good idea.
What if I made my own Citadel implementation, called it Fortress, and had each client-side protocol be its own Fortress daemon (fortress-imapd, fortress-popd, fortress-webd, etc...) and then started a commewnity of felinophile computologists? Or a commewnity of SiliconGraphics aficionados?
I would like to know their plans on censoring people when they step
out of line.
You get sent over to the Ministry of Love for re-education. Duh.

That's coming. Citadels will eventually be part of the fediverse, just like some of you are suggesting. It's taking longer than I'd like because we have to finish webcit-ng first.
Looking at fedverse main page. I didnt realize GNUsocial was part of it. Or even still alive.. i thought that died.
Let me be the first to say this: I think the "leaked" Roe v. Wade thing is a hoax. They're obviously working in concert to distract us from something else, and we ought to be working hard to figure out what that something else is.
And my opinion about abortion remains the same: the life of a baby is worth far more than the life of a democrat.
After reading it, i dont think its a hoax, as it sounds legit and something he would draft up ( others agree, not just me :) ). But, i totally agree its a distraction, via an attempt to get things stirred up with protests and riots this summer. i have heard some other theories that this was to put public pressure on court members wanting to change sides, or just to get them harassed/threatened and force them to vote one way or another, but that is pretty far out in left field.
And not to get too far into the weeds, but many people that do support banning abortions across the board agree with this: Adhering to strict constitutional guidelines, things like this should be the state's jurisdiction, not the federal government's. I tend to agree. While i personally dont approve of ( non-medical emergency ) abortions after 'x date', i dont think the feds should be dictating it in either direction..
oh, and it may have the effect of forcing the democrats to pack the court. "see we told ya so" ( to their base )
