Agreed. And that would be my contention on if I care if the Ukraine is a sovereign state or not.

Sure it is. How much I care about it that WE should get involved in something that could become a global conflict is the shade of gray lost in that question as it was framed above.

The West makes decisions about Sovereign States that are setting up alliances that threaten the Western Alliances all the time, by the way. Cuba has been isolated because their alliances threaten the domestic US for decades now. And oh yeah, initially we tried a military invasion to occupy that nation and put in our own Pro-Western government. That went BADLY for *US*. And was probably the LAST time we were THIS CLOSE to a nuclear confrontation with Russia.

It is kind of a "before you remove the mote from thy neighbor's eye, remove the plank from thine own," situation - when an example of us pulling the EXACT same kind of shit for the same reason is so easy to produce.

The Ukraine joining NATO is Western Politics encroaching closely on the borders of Russia, as surely as Cuba becoming a pro Russian communist nation was Russian politics encroaching closely on the borders of the United States.

I believe America's interaction with Cuba was justified in protecting its own national interests... and continue to be so...

I don't see how I can accept that and reject Russia's response to our attempt to do the same in the Ukraine.

Fuck the Ukraine. It's the shithole of Europe, a cash cow for the Clintons, and provides little to nothing of value to Western civilization and humanity as a whole. Taiwan being taken over by China was be a far greater shame and loss even without the fact that they're the biggest global producer of microchips.

We can't cower in fear every time Putin uses the big-N word. Russia

isn't "backed into a corner" any more than the rest of the planet is.

Do you consider Ukraine a sovereign state or not? If you do, then

Russia doesn't get to dictate what sort of alliances it enters into.

This is like the behavior of an abusive husband after he gambled away

the family house and his wife has left him, and now he keeps showing up

brandishing his guns every time his ex goes on a date with another

dude.

I think the point is that you can't bully Russian customers and suppliers the same way you can bully my customers and suppliers, in an attempt to enforce your cultural worldview, because Russia has the power to break havoc even if I don't. Not to mention ussia has alies to trade with, which can't be said of conservative merchants put through the meatgrinder.

Something people is not thinkking about is that Putin cannot afford to fail at getting some benefit he can sell to his followers at this point. He can't suddenly give up, because then he will be seen as an expired glory and murdered in the bathrooms. This makes him extremely dangerous because he needs to be offered an honorable exit to save face. So far, according to the media here, that is not happening. Nobody is saying "OK, we will give you these symbolic things so you can withdraw your troops with dignity and leave us alone." ANd this is an issue because if he makes no progress towards his political goals he will get very nasty because his life will be at stake.

I don't think many people are arguing Ukraine is not a sovreing nation. That is orthogonal to the issue. I personally think they are a bunch of poor devils who were being used by Western powers to further Western goals until Russia decided they were having none more of it.

What actually angers me about this crisis is that the West thinks it can solve problems with non-Western countries the same way they solve problems within their own territory... that they can pester supply chains and run propaganda engines and get their enemies ideologically isolated. BUt here is the thing: a hashtag offensive is not gonna cut it, cutting vodka imports is not gonna cut it, and running a campaign telling the world how bad they are is not gonna cut it. Out of the West they are so beyond this shit.

Nothing short of sitting to negotiate and offering something in exchange of something else or roling in with tanks is going to work balls. Everything else is just being foolish.

Ukraine is one of the biggest sources of mail-order-wives in the West. If Ukraine goes down it is going to be harder for rich Western men to find a gold-digger willing to be their wife for the improved living standards.

There are worst shittholes in the West.

I also think Taiwan is next. The non-Western groups are slowly banding together. After the Afghan fiasco CHina was already making friends with the talibsans. Now that Russia is being pressed, China and Putin are tightening their trade deals. If Putin gets anything more than a symbolic achivement over Ukraine then I have a bad hunch regardingh Taiwan and South Korea.

Joe Rogan backed into the corner can't unleash nuclear warfare on the

On the contrary! There are a lot of displaced young Ukrainian ladies now in desperate search of some stability and security in their lives. Perhaps now is my chance!!

I don't know what is worse: a gold-digger who gets to dig your gold after carefully planing for it, or a gold-digger who gets to dig your gold out of pure desperation and need in the heat of the moment.

Ukraine is also the most STDs per capita of anywhere in the world, I'm pretty sure. So... there is that when you're shopping for gold-diggers. The women are also strong and empowered and tough... not little cherry blossoms who rub their man's feet and make them their favorite dinner and never talk back.

So when does Putin shut down the internet? ( i still cant believe there is actual cell service in Ukraine.. first thing in war is to disable your enemy's ability to coordinate.. ).

We had a network slow down around 2:30 yesterday for about 15 minutes. I jokingly told our chief in the elevator on the way out for the day: "Must have been the Russians".   He is actually concerned about them hitting us, now that the governor put out a executive order condemning their actions and a bunch of political nothing-speak.  They dont care about us.. we are no one. Idiots.

Now the *Chinese*, that is a threat to us.

But - anyhow... it got me thinking... what the support is REALLY about, especially in the West - is more "Anti-Trump/Anti-Right" virtue signaling. 99% of the people taking a side know SHIT about the conflict and they're just by default on Team Ukraine because they see Putin as Team Trump and so... whoever Putin doesn't like, they want to win - regardless.

You got to it before I did.   I think that is a big part of the reason I'm suspicious.  The narrative is, Putin equals Trump, Trump is Bad, therefore Support Ukraine.

We should just ignore the whole thing, let them all kill each other, and focus on the true problem: US Democrats and Rinos.   None of this would be our problem if we still had actual leadership, and it wouldn't impact us if we were still energy independent like we were a few years ago, when we had an actual LEADER in the White House.

It has never been clearer:  MAGA people are good; anti-MAGA people are scum who hate the world.

I'm getting Cloudfare Captchas trying to get out on my regular ISP DHCP IP.

It got so bad I did some deep digging and IP blacklist analysis today. All the honeypot sites say my IP and IP range is clean.

So... something else *is* going on.

The last week or so i have had to swim thru Ukraine videos, for obvious reasons as there is a freaking war going on... But today not a single one showed in my feed..  If all you have is YT for your news, might look like the war ended. Or if you were asleep for a week, it never happened...

Almost like the Usual Suspects were trying to figure out a way to make a domestic crisis out of the Russia/Ukraine conflict, but couldn't figure out how? Or perhaps everyone is just fucking sick of inflation and high fuel prices, and they need a way out?

I think Dick Cheney is going to call in another terrorist attack. The 2022 election is going to slip away from them unless they do something drastic.

In a lot of areas they are consider an outsider ethnic group, just like a Jewish clan in a middle-age europe city. Except Gypsies have a reputation for stealing chickens and copper in the areas in which Gypsy-as-race is a thing.

I think you Americans are actually very bad at politics.

If Biden actually cared about Ukraine, he would not do public speeches against Putin. He would pretend he is ignoring Ukraine and throw an invasion against Venezuela in order to "liberate the poor Venezuelans from an evil dictatorship". Then, behind the curtains, he would tell Puting "It you want me to stop beating your friends, stop beating mine".
