I now have a high school student.  Thought I would watch "The Breakfast Club" with her.  Sorry I did, but also glad I did.  Sparked some conversations long after watching it.

Reminds me to organize Home Alone and the sequel for christmas, my son really enjoyed it last time we watched.

Also Christmas Vacation and Scrooged for the girlfriend.

I have yet to see 'Home Alone'.

And, somehow, I suspect that I'm better off for it.

But I'm looking forward to watching Groundhog Day in Feb.

I'm actually amused by the first Home Alone movie. Before it became a "thing..." When it was just funny.

Actually the first 'Home Alone' movie is quite the hoot.
I think you'll like it.
The sequels were.... ummmm... sequels (yawn).

It's probably the idea of the sequels that turn me off from the original.

I find the first one kind of disturbing. I never saw any sequels.

now that starwars is created by disney, is darth vader going to sing?

Although I like Vince's version of turning it into a Wagnerian epic better ... the fact remains that Leia is now a Disney Princess.

Disney, not dizzy. Or dizzy. Actually, either way works for me.

Regarding Star Wars and Wagner....

There is really no need to "turn it into" a Wagnerian thing.
It already is. Both in plot and music.

1. "Darth Vader" - Dark Father - rather obvious corruption of the Old German
2. Luke - after Episode 4, Luke is an all-too-obvious Siegfried stand-in
3. Luke & Leia (4, 5?) - Siegmund & Sieglinde (Walkure)
4. Yoda - "Mime the Dwarf" (Siegfried), as mentor and teacher.
5. Jaba the Hutt - Fafnir the Dragon
6. Jar Jar Binks - Fleeb.... <evil grin>

Feh!

I am probably one of the four or five in the entire universe that actually LIKED Jar Jar Binks.

Meesah tired - bed now.

I have not seen a single Star Wars film that had that character, believe it or not.

I realize this makes me slightly less American that expected.

I'd consider Jar Jar Binks an illegal immigrant.

wrt Home Alone: My 5 year old son is heavily amused by the movie. He might be by the sequel. I guess kids are the target audience.

Children who aren't like my niece, I suspect. My niece has a dark sense of humor. She might actually like for incompetant robbers to prevail against a clever child.

A child who spends hours devising complex devices to foil robbers for hours instead of simply dialing 911 is not clever.

No, but simply dialing 911 makes an awfully boring movie...

Actually, the urban legend of "the babysitter and the man upstairs" has been used in at least half a dozen movies (according to wikipedophilia, which loves to harm children; I mean come on, would you let someone who looks like Jimbo Wales come within a hundred feet of your kids?)

Of course, it wouldn't adapt well today...

"Get out of the house; the killer is on the other extension!"

"Uhhh... what? I'm on a cell phone."
