Obviously.

Except, of course, whoever 'they' are, 'they' hired the lowest bidder, so the line noise isn't doing anything as interesting as rewriting your messages according to what 'they' want you to know. 'They' are simply injecting garbage into the lines.

Ergo, it's likely the government.

Apparently all of the source code to the Windows operating system now resides in a Git repository. So not only does Visual Studio support Git directly, but Microsoft is actually using Git internally now.

As the old adage goes, every operating system eventually turns into Unix.

I can confirm that they have integrated git into Visual Studio. Although, I still prefer to use TortoiseGit.

Just as every web browser other than lynx/links is infected with irredeemable cancer, every OS is starting to piss me off as much as Windows. In a desperate move of nostalgia, I have purchased Arca Noae 5.0. Successful VM installation, still wrangling with bare metal.

w3m works rather efficiently for me.

I haven't used lynx in a good while, though.

I'd not heard of Arca Noae, though. I rather liked OS/2, and wouldn't mind playing around in that garden again sometime. Might be funny to toss one of those into our teaching environments just to mess with people.

If the fonts were updated, nobody would bat an eye.

I always include w3m in the lynx/links family. In the event I become independently wealthy, I plan to fund lynx 3.0 that can fully deal with the modern cancerweb. At the same time, I use "retro" tech like NNTP and Gopher to

avoid the web as much as possible (thankfully RSS is still a thing) and follow promising new tech like Urbit that plans on ditching not just the web, but as much of the Internet as possible.

You know what really grinds my gears? When I move a window around on the screen, and Windows decides that what I *really* wanted was for every other window to disappear, so it minimizes everything except the window I'm moving.

What the ACTUAL fuck were they thinking?

Bill Gates needs to get cancer, AIDS, and hit by a bus, all at the same time.
NOW.

So on a whim this afternoon I decided to try Outlook. Now keep in mind, as we've always known, people buy Outlook because it's the only thing that works quite right with Exchange, and people buy Exchange because it's the only thing that works quite right with Outlook, and people who do both are stupid. But this is Microsoft Outlook running on Microsoft Windows connected to Microsoft Exchange -- no silly tricks here. All are the latest version.

IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK.

It just sat there for hours, with some folders partially populated, others (such as my INBOX) not populated at all. If I try to send a message it tells me I have to configure an account first (and if I give it the same account again, it still does the same thing). I got it to work by turning off cached mode, but it's slower than molasses in January.

THIS is the gold standard in corporate email and collaboration?
Decades of development and it's still a lumbering nonfunctional piece of garbage? I could write a better email system than this in my spare time.
Actually ... I *have* written a better email system than this in my spare time.

You must have a super shitty Exchange server...... Outlook's not perfect by any stretch, but I can't say I've encountered such issues.

But if you started out with IMAP and switched to MAPI, it may have some strange issues. The underlying structure is a bit different. I encountered that receently.

Nope.  Fresh install of Outlook 2016, connecting to an existing mailbox that has never been touched by IMAP.

And yes, we have a super shitty Exchange server.  ALL Exchange servers are super shitty.

Grab the window you were just moving (and shook, hence minimizing everything else) and shake it again. All the other windows will magically reappear.

Is that what makes that happen?  "shaking" a window?  What were they thinking?

Is there any way to disable that?

Probably some legacy code from their attempts at unifying desktop and mobile environment.

The sooner they erase the remaining pieces of that gigantic mistake the better.  Windoze 10 is generally pretty usable but it still has pieces that make no sense unless you're running it on a smartphone (which 99.99999999999999999999% of Windoze users are NOT).

I'm giving some consideration to using Server 2016 as a desktop instead of Windoze 10.  Server has less of the stupidness-that-you-can't-turn-off like the "apps" which no one wants, and it doesn't have that big yeasty cunt Cortana shoving herself in your face all the time.
