Well, there are actors attempting to wedge a large divide using social media as their tool. As in, foreign governments attempting to destabilize the US.

This foreign government did not collude with any political candidate, the foreign government promoted the candidate that would cause the most strife in the country in order to destabilize the U.S.

Libertarians tend to assume the best of human nature and capability - and I find it one of the frailties of Libertarian ideology.

Believing that humanity is good can be problematic.

I'm all for a representative Republic decided by a very narrow Democracy because I'm a pessimist about human nature.

A democracy is 50.1% percent of the population telling the other 49.9% to fuck off.

History may record that we are at peak tribalism right now. Half of the nation has been brainwashed into believing that the other half are white supremacists.
Come on, really? You only have to zoom out a little bit to see how ridiculous this is.

The funny thing about all of this is that the people who swore to "stick it to the man" back in the 1960's basically won the culture war, they're now running the big corporations, and they now ARE "the man". Twitter, Facebook, and Google are now the entrenched establishment. I wonder how many young people would change their perspective if they started seeing it that way.

Libertarian ideals don't work 100% of the time (which sounds odd coming from the likes of me) but they absolutely work 100% of the time ON THE INTERNET.

I'm going to have to leave this entire quote, because... all of this.

In cinema and entertainment, I hate that every movie now has to "subvert" our expectations by making the wicked witch or The Joker sympathetic.

That isn't subverting the status quo anymore. Maybe when Wicked first came out, this was a novel and interesting spin on the classic tale - but you know what would be subversive today?

If there were a story about a group claiming they were oppressed by an evil government that was racist, and sexist and homophobic and that was supported by a majority of citizens who shared those same values - and it turned out they were just rebels who wanted to install a dictatorship where they were in control, and the legitimate government was actually noble and just.

Because *no one* would expect that to be a film plot coming out of Hollywood.

Latest peeve: sites that not only begin autoplaying a video (with or without sound) when you load a page, but then "helpfully" move the video into an overlay on the lower-right corner of the screen when you scroll past its original location.

Someone needs to be beaten hard for this.

Now apparently everything has a picture in picture feature and for some odd reason people think it is fantastic.   I agree, people need to be beaten for this.

The latest is YouTube on the Chrome desktop.  You don't want to watch a video so you click the YouTube logo at the top, the video you don't want to watch pops out, continues playing in a thumbnail size on whatever screen you are on.  WTF is this?  If I wanted to watch the video I would stay on the original page.

On the android there is a setting... not in the app's settings but in general settings for disabling picture and picture in every app.
Settings--> Apps & notifications--> Advanced--> Special App access-->  Picture-in-Picture.  Hidden very well and not within the app's features.

I can not find where I can disable picture in picture on the desktop version of Chrome.

It doesn't do that on Firefox. Switch to firefox, I guess. Or use HookTube instead of YouTube (change "youtube.com" to "hooktube.com" in any YT video link and it'll play without connecting you to Goolag servers).

I will have to migrate back to firefox, I did read that firefox is working on getting picture in picture to work.

I paid the shareware fee to Opera, I can't remember why I stopped using them, it might have been when they started integrating web browsing and a mail reader into one, which upped the ram usage.  I didn't like their mail reader.

Hooktube sends everything to google, Hooktube lost in the courts.

This drives me nuts on my Edge 7. If you've just told me how to turn it off... You're my new favorite Citadel user.

Well then it's only a matter of time before the free world builds a distributed version of this that Susan Hitler Wojcicki and her merry band of subhuman scumbags cannot block using lawyers.

BitChute seems to be growing, but because of its distributed nature it can't be directly monetized, at least not on the platform itself. I suppose sponsorships will work fine. It would help if the search engines began indexing BitChute videos... oh yes, the most popular search engine is owned by the same band of nazi scumbags who operate YouTube.

Yes, it's time to break up Google.

So... I do some pretty mean accents. Lately as these SSN suspended scams have been coming through, I've been calling back on my Google Voice number and having a go at them.

Today I spent 15 minutes with a SSN scammer, in a thick Irish accent, telling him my name was Patrick O'Mally.
Guy couldn't figure out the name I had the Irish on so thick. I had to spell it out for him 3 times before he got it.

I was telling him, "P A T R I C K O apostrophe M A DOUBLE ELLE Y. Why is this so difficult for you, laddie? It is a quite common good Irish Catholic name!"
I told him, "I dunt understan how me Social Security Card could be suspended - as I'm an IRISH citizen living in Doooblin!"

The number is 1-478-242-0332

You know what to do, clan O'Mally - give 'em a call and let 'em know how disappointed Mother Mary and the sweet Lord Jesus is with them for their phone scamming ways.

And... top o' ta mahrnin' ta ya!

I did this on speaker phone on my laptop, with 4 co-workers sitting by with tears in their eyes. I wish I had thought to record it, because it was hilarious.

In March of this year I received calls from:
‪(332) 877-0395‬
(281) 694-4365‬
(281) 694-4361‬

Today it was
(646) 755-9692‬

Same message:
....your social security number because we found some suspicious activity. So if you want to know about this case, just press one. Thank you. This call is from the Department of Social Security Administration. The reason you have received this phone call from our department is to inform you that we just suspend your social security number because we found some suspicious activity. So if you want to know about this case, just press one. Thank you.

These came in on my Google Voice number which forwards to my cell.  I reported and blocked those numbers on both Google Voice and the phone.
Hopefully the telcos are trying to reduce these calls.

They don't even try to use a legitimate number anymore. The current crop of robodialers will simply generate a calling number that is comprised of *your* NPA-NXX and four random digits, to make the call seem "local".

That's fine with me. I don't actually know anyone in Port Chester, NY (which, for some reason, is the canonical CO for my cell number) and on the odd chance that I met someone who also has a cell phone in that NPA-NXX, they'd almost certainly show up with a name ID.

So now I don't even have to bother answering the phone ... that is, unless I'm in the mood to make some madarchod's head explode.

That's right, it's all caller ID spoofing now.

One friend of mine started to threaten the caller with reporting the number to the FCC. That's incorporated into the scam scripts now, so the guy didn't miss a beat: "it doesn't matter. I can make it look like I'm calling from any number."

I've been getting calls from *my own number*!

They were not from my area code.

I did receive a call from my own cell phone, the caller ID said, "voicemail"

Someone from "my" credit card company told me to take my card and fuck myself with it. I'm going to have to register a complaint.
