On a whim, this weekend I decided to see if I can configure AdBlock to filter "clickbait" sites out of the sites I read. It seems easy because the content appears to be generated by having the host site include a script that makes your browser go to the clickbait site to fetch content, so you just filter out those domains and you're good to go.
I've had success so far by adding the following two lines to my filter list:
||outbrain.com
||taboola.com
I'm surprised that no one is already maintaining a subscribable list of these cesspools. Does anyone know of more sites to add, or of any subscribable lists?
since I live in the city that addblock plus comes from, I can tell you that you can buy yourselves out of their line ;-)
Anyway, it says "Eyeo GmbH, the company behind Adblock Plus, has no right to, or control over, any filter list content other than Acceptable Ads." So I guess you can pay to persuade them to consider your ads "acceptable" ?
As for the clickbaiters, so far I've found that blocking Outbrain and Taboola has been an excellent start.
I use noscript - blocking those advertisers also does a pretty good job in removing anoying adds. Though some remain.
yea, you need to find out which sites to enable. usually the advertizing ones are pretty obvious ;-)

That's about the sum of it. Everything about facebook is set up to keep you on facebook. And to keep you coming back. That's why they set up drama between your friends.
It's also the absolute central reason why I hate facebook. As the operator of the digital equivalent of a mom-and-pop-shop that got "walmarted" by facebook, I do hope that Mark Fuckerburg dies in a car fire, is jump-started back to life by the EMT's, and then gets shot by the hospital manager upon arriving at the ER. There is nothing in the universe worse than facebook.

It's essentially a spam filter for your phone line. In order to use it, you have to have a phone service with "simultaneous ring" feature (basically any of the digital services support this). After you sign up, you set up your phone to simultaneously ring their scrubbing center's phone number (which is toll free, so they get to use ANI instead of CallerID). They compare the incoming number to a database of robo-callers, and if the number appears "clean" they give a busy signal, which causes the call to be sent only to your phone.
If the number is a known robo-caller, they answer the call and play a recording, so your phone stops ringing immediately.
