Seems that here in Indiana, they have dogs in many of the warehouse hubs for stuff like FedEx. "Eh, ok.." until you find out that the dogs are not sniffing for drugs, but instead cash.. and if they find some, your cash is seized and you have to file suit to prove its legit. Millions every year.
And i guess if you travel thru here with any amount of cash, you are liable to lose it in the same manner.
wtf.
Most of the time when i buy a car, its in cash... "hi, here is 6 grand in the envelope, hand me the title and im out of your hair"
One time i did that, "wow, i expected a check or something" Umm like i would trust some random stranger to write me a check like that.
Sat Aug 24 2024 11:56:59 EDT from IGnatius T FoobarI've heard about that. There is an assumption that if you have a large amount of cash on hand you are obviously buying or selling drugs. There's no way that is constitutional but I guess no one has challenged it in any meaningful way.
"researchgate" A repository for research papers, requires an account. Rather appropriate name to have added 'gate' .

( and ya, i know i posted in bottom feeders.. as the people who had that idea are scumbags )

Spam seems down this weekend, almost zero. I wonder if they are
taking a holiday too.
Meanwhile, email servers at two of my jobs are receiving lots of email attempts from some "funteensex" domain. I kind of felt bad blocking the related domains and IPs because the teens seemed to be having a lot of fun and the emails weren't reaching any inbox anyway LOL
Porteus Linux. "Our clients are free unless you want our support, or run our server" ... "oh wait now that people use it, reported bugs and help development, we changed our mind and now we are not free and its subscription based. Oh, and we hard wired in a way to disable all the old versions but didn't mention it... hahahahah pay up, suckers"

For one moment, I thought you were talking about these guys:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porteus_(operating_system)
Porteus is not that bad, but the guys have an anti-tor instance, which is one of the reasons why I am not eager to contribute to their stuffs.
Nope, not them.
Not a fan of Slackware myself, but they seem like a legit project. Not like these other F-ers. Bet they stole the name too.

Porteus does not feel very Slackware-like while in use. They use Slackware as a base but then they run a lot of custom-made management stuff on it. They have support for Slackware-compatible packages and stuff like Slackbuilds, and that is it.
Nowadays, I prefer Tiny Core Linux for the stuff I used to use Porteus for. It is more compact and overall a better pick for laser-focused tasks.
What is the Porteus you were actually talking about?
Reading the wiki page, it looks like the company that i ran into took the same Porteus project, and basically made a proprietary branch of the build scrips, in effect. Started out sucking people in by being 'free', then flipped the switch.

I think I may have cracked the code. Specifically, how to create accounts on X.COM and keep them.
For those not up to speed: my cell number and email address are both banned because the social justice warriors who ran the place back when it was called Twitter got all butthurt over some things I said. So for a long time I wasn't able to create new accounts under any email address because eventually it would ask for my phone number.
The trick seems to be:
1. Click the "log in with Google" button
2. Establish the account, follow a few people, like a few things, etc.
3. Remove your photo and change your name.
4. Change your password. Since you don't have a password, do a password reset with the gmail account.
5. Now change your email address and disconnect the Google account.
Obviously this doesn't anonymize you if you're trying to hide your real identity from Google or from the government. I don't care about either of those things on X, I'm just trying to avoid being thrown under the bus by people who already know (and dislike) me.
So now I have two accounts:
1. One with my well known "nom de plume" which I will probably just use in read-only mode forever
2. Another one with an unknown name which I will use to spew the kind of bitter sarcasm that is 100% true but gets me in trouble
Let the flames begin!
But why do we want an X account? :)
For what its worth, some time ago i created a dummy google account. Was for an experiment with building TV streamer thing out of x86 android. I wanted the YT interface to be separate from mine. If i remember right it only asked for an email, and i used a disposable one. The experiment failed due to another app not working, so didn't keep using it, but it did setup an account. This might have been about a year ago.
I suppose if they changed the rules, disposable phone numbers might work, so you could still remain anonymous but have a G account.
Interesting. A few minutes after I posted the above message, I got the dreaded "There was suspicious activity on your account and you need to verify it" screen. But instead of the old version where you need to verify it with a text message, now it is content to simply do an email verification followed by solving a puzzle.
I ❤️ Elon.
so when i first saw this post it said (heart) now its got an emoticon. I thought it was yesterday before i lost power. but it says 28? Bug, or edit, or insanity on my part?
