So during some idle time yesterday I signed up for Truth Social. It's

kind of ho-hum. Seems like the only purpose of being there is to
follow Big Orange himself. There's no one else there that you can't
find on Gettr. He should have just started his own blog or something.

Pretty much what I expected. The "build your own" needed to happen, competition is a good thing, but it needed to be attached to someone not so politically driven. There is no way it could have ever been anything other than a Trump blog.

I suspect the user base will expand closer to the elections.   But agreed, regardless of anything its ultimately Trump's blog.

Gettr seems to be gaining traction, and seems pretty well committed to not censoring people based on so-called "misinformation". He should have just gone there. Until federation happens, there's only so much attention available for new-tech (as opposed to legacy or big-tech) sites.

I'm on Gettr. I'm also on Gab but with a fake name. Gab federates but is blocked by a lot of sites.

This is clearly not the end state.

On second thought, maybe the only thing Truth Social is missing is a massive army of bot accounts.

So zukerburg admitted they were censoring stories about Hunter's laptop.

Of course he blamed the FBI, but i'm amazed they admitted it..

Zuckerberg: "I never ever would have committed election interference, but the big bad FBI forced me to. My hands were tied!"

Court scientismers: "We never ever would have rushed a poorly tested vaccine, but the big bad orange man forced us to. Our hands were tied!"

I think I would have preferred one that didn't speak english. Maybe that's from the discount bin.

Are they going to ship her via intermodal freight? I hear they don't do well in those containers and you might want to inspect the shipment before you make your final payment.

New ( to me ) thing today.

Friends account was cloned and they sent an invite ( not new ) but when i told the real friend to go report it, the clone has blocked his account. Sneaky, since FB ignores reports from 3rd parties.

I had an idea for a spam filter and I'm going to try it out. But I'm not sure if I want to share it.

The vast majority of spam that gets past my existing filters is from domains that have been registered in the last few days. It seems like it would be obvious to filter on that but I don't see any existing filters that do that.
So I figured out how to register a SpamAssassin plugin, and I have a skeleton plugin built and will now write the logic.

I figure it would score +10 for a domain registered in the past week, +5 for a domain registered in the last month, maybe +3 for a domain registered in the past year, or something like that.

I expect that the only thing that could make this not work, aside from slowing the system down (not a big deal at this site's volume), would be if the whois servers throttled the queries.

And now, this leaves me with an ethical conundrum:

What if it works? What if it works really well?

Spam is an arms race. If it works, and if I share it, lots of people will use it. And if lots of people use it, the spammers will work around it. A couple of years ago I noticed I was getting spams from domains that were about a year old, but when they used them all up, that stopped. So if it works ... do I keep it to myself, or share it?

In other news, Twitter has reportedly offered itself to Elon Musk at a reduced price if he agrees to not fire their current staff and continue censoring the current staff's political opponents.

Like he would agree to do that.   At least in writing.

Got a couple of your typical "hurry up and verify your email account" nonsense today. ( ya, nothing new )

But, as i moved my mouse to delete it, i went across the link and i happened to notice that it points to an IPFS share.. not your typical hacked google account or something. So impossible to trace or shut down.

Remember when Kanye wore the "WHITE LIVES MATTER" shirt?  The left's meltdown over that was hilarious!
