It's getting out of control. Some publishers are fleeing to Rumble

and/or BitChute, but those sites do not yet have the diversity of

content that YouTube has -- they mainly only have the kind of things

you can't do on YouTube. But that is starting to change as YouTube

increases their nazi level.

The winning formula right now seems to be, publish on all sites, and

make sure (in the video and in the description) that your viewers know

where else to find you. The IGlet is doing this now, and he mainly

just makes videos of trains and elevators.

IGlet is smart.

I was recently taske with registering a business at Google Business and all the "quick search criteria" they offered you to mark in order to differentiate your business from others of the same type in the area was woke.

"This is a women's business," "This is a pro gay business" and so on.

If you want to market your shop as a Christian store which is friendly towards gun totting deep South rednecks, there is no way to do it.

Google needs to be burnt with Napalm.

I hit sites like this every now and again searching for things... I'm not sure what their motive is...

They must be collecting hit revenue or something.

"Facebook reported its first-ever quarterly decline of daily users globally this week, sending its stock price plummeting by 23 percent in intraday trading on Thursday. The massive drop has wiped out approximately $200 billion in market value for Zuckerberg and his shareholders."

Obviously it's way too early to celebrate, but this one is personal. It was Facebook who led the masses of Internet users away from thousands of smaller communities and into the Farmville Plantation. It was Facebook who created the culture of stoking hatred between people online so that it would generate more ad revenue. It was Facebook who led the charge of censor-canceling people who challenge mainstream narratives.

May the decline continue. May the Facebook empire collapse and decay. I want to dance on its grave.

All of the other ones, certainly yes. But I have to question this one. Did Facebook really do that, or was it just an inevitable culteral shift after eternal September?

Facebook is headed in the direction of Google+. Sometimes I'll get bored and log in on a Friday or Saturday night, and there are NO new posts.

I've been pushing it in their face for a while... since they started banning me from advertising my BBS... that this partisan, biased treatment was going to hurt them... that banning their biggest content contributors, like me - was hurting them more than it was hurting us... that without us generating constant streams of interesting, if controversial and divisive - was going to make their lurkers and infrequent posters lose interest.

Here it comes. I'm going to dance on the grave of Facebook once they go full Digg 2.0/MySpace.

For me FB is still just about keeping in touch with the family and a few R/L friends and 2 groups that refused to move elsewhere.  ( one relating to Forth programming and anther a dog group )  and while people will say 'just call them', when you have a larger family its not all that realistic just to call to say 'hi'.  So it does fill a need. ( conceptually of the online-forum idea, not FB itself )

Since FB ate many other alternatives like google groups options have been reduced...

I was talking about this with my father earlier. Not about these particular results (of which I didn't know) but about the market decline of social media as of late.

It seems more and more of the people I know are skipping traditional social media and moving to messaging and chat platforms instead.

People, clubs, organized groups... those in my country are all moving to mobile messaging.

Social media generates crap so fast that a given post will only stay in the front page of a given user for a minute. It gives a messenger-like feeling of posts that don't last... except messaging programs are better for that anyway.

Im ok with that, if we could all just pick one.. ( and one that wont vanish in a few years.. )

The consolation of FB is most of the people i wanted to continue to communicate with were there. I resisted going, but it was getting hard.

That's an interesting perspective ... social media collapsing under its own weight. It might be an indicator of the fact that in the last two years we've been so isolated that everyone is craving community more than they used to, and Facebook just isn't delivering it.

So there's still merit to the idea of everyone going on a diaspora to many smaller communities instead of the entire world moving from myspace to facebook to tiktok or whatever. What's still missing is an easy way to tie it all together. I still believe it's coming -- and may even take the form of one of the current efforts, fully realized.

And when it happens, we will be there. I think a lot of people will line up to dance on Zuck's grave.

Or instead of it "not delivering community", perhaps the public realization of them actively squelching facts, pushing agendas, etc is really what is driving people away?  Most people just want a place to talk to talk to their friends and family, not be preached and lied to, and restricted.

I think decentralization is key - and that is where Citadel can fit. The tone of The Sanitarium - when it was very active - was far different than Uncensored, because of the composition of the users and their interests. But if there were more paths connecting the two - each one could offer things that the other couldn't or wouldn't to the same base of users... And with a larger, more connected user base - a lot of people would find one or the other to be their "home".
Right now - the user bases are very established and comfortable and they don't want anything outside of what their preferred BBS is offering them. But if there were more interconnected-ness... I think you would see a swelling userbase for both destinations - for all of them.

Actually, the writing has been on the wall since 2015 or so, when it was recognized that Facebook had such a content overload that it was becoming hard for a given post to be seen.

The point is that if you open a Pizza Restaurant and post a Pizza Recipe, chances are nobody will see your post because it will be buried by an avalanche of cheap motivational posts. This creatly reduces the value of Facebook for your Pizza Restaurant since you can no longer build a community effectively.

I think the same effect is in effect in Twitter these days. You cannot easily backtrack to a post you read 5 minutes ago, because it is under 900 pounds of new posts by the time you decide to look back for it.

No, people are generally stupid, doubly so for people who still think Facebook is useful. Most of them aren't aware that they're being programmed. They're just getting annoyed at the volume of stuff other than what they're looking for.

I remember during my year or so on Facebook, which was over a decade ago now, I had to constantly switch my view over to "newest first" because the site kept "helpfully" switching it back to prioritize what they wanted to show up top. I really wanted it to act like a message board, where I could start where I last left off and then progress to the end, and then stop. I imagine they don't even let you do that anymore.

LinkedIn is just as bad now. It's basically just white collar Facebook.

Effectively yes, but more than just Citadels, and at the granularity of each individual user's curation instead of site operators. Basically an expanded version of the nascent "fediverse". It's coming eventually -- too many people want it now, and it's just a matter of someone eventually landing on a formula that works. Once that happens, the genie won't go back in the bottle.

On the FB thing, there is a tool that removes 99% of the stuff that does not come from group membership or actual friends.  And you can filter out games, promoted items, bla bla.   My feed often times has 1 post...  I tend to forget how bad others have it.
