Cat Show Preview
--- ---- -------

There's *lots* of cats.
Big cats. Small cats. Cats of every size in between.
Long hairs. Short hairs. Some that even appear to have no hair.
Quiet cats. Loud cats. And...

Siamese cats. They redefine loud. In fact, having had Siamese cats almost all my adult life, I can tell you from experience that if you have 2 of them in the house, they will begin to "talk" to each other at a volume that begs description.

Almost.

Go listen to any good opera where a pair of soprani start "singing" at each other at full volume.

A house with a few Siamese is more like living in a Wagnerian nightmare!

Oh - and if you are even slightly allergic to cats, do not go to a cat show... <evil grin>

My cat talks loudly when he wants food or wants to be on the other side of any closed door.

Otherwise he lets out these very quite purr/meow sounds when he is around you.

His buddy a Siamese does talk.

Today we baked cookies.

Not for us.  For the cats.

Recipe at [ http://joythebaker.com/2014/01/tuna-catnip-kitty-treats/ ]

These little morsels have tuna and catnip in them.

My friend has a pair of Rescue Kitties. They are now just over 8 years old. They know, and immediately respond to the words "treats" and "tuna." When visiting there, both of those words have to be spelled out to keep the kitties from catching on.

However, the day is coming when they WILL catch on.

And at that point, they will have a spelling capability roughly equivalent to the average third-grader in just about any California public school...

Two things that are *always* frustrating when dealing with cats...

1. cat treats (see previous messages)
2. cat toys

I've given up buying cat toys from any store. It's always the same. Cat looks at it; cat looks at me with a "what the f$ck am I expected to do with *that*?" followed by one of those cat yawns that looks like the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel....

I no longer smoke.
Years ago I discovered, by accident, that the best all-purpose cat toy on the planet is a freshly crumpled empty cigarette pack.

All my cats *loved* it when I would toss one to the floor. Played with those things for hours. Free. No pet store. Wheeeeeeeeeee!!

Oh.
Discovered a replacement for those ciggy-pack things.
When you're done that Klondike bar, crumple its wrapper.
Cats *love* those!

Yeah I don't use the electric shredder, I just give any paper I want shredded to the cat.

He likes it in a ball better than just a sheet on the floor but either is fine.

I have to say I find Klondike bars far more appealing than cigarettes. I would imagine the cats do too.

Cat puked again in her sleep last night. Stupid thing.

Last time she did that was on the end of last winter, when she was in her "crows nest" under the ceiling in the middle of the night. I woke up to retching noises, climbed on a chair, looked into her nest and saw her surrounded by puke. This must have been the time she mentally woke up, and although pavlovian conditioning does not apply to wake cats, it applies to sleepy cats. She immediately understood that I must have puked on her and she started complaining. She did not get up, even while I was removing the puke. Must have been pretty drowsy/sleepy. But afterwards, she had a deep distrust for me all through the summer. She would flee from me, always keep a safe distance. Started to get better now that it begins to get cold outside again and she needs to stay inside more often.

Will take her to the doctor soon.

I was told that cat catchers use towels, and therefore one should not aproach cats with towels, even if they're wet and complaining...

(oh, and yes - lil' missy can complain when she gets wet by accident...)

Cats puke.

All the time.

It is almost as if it is a fun thing for them (and who knows - it just may so be).

It is almost never something to cause concern. And certainly the events you described being 9 to 10 months apart are in that category (better than being in that dogegory).

Hmmm... puking.

Part of the Job Description for Cat.

Nun Cat, the Pukinator.

They usually puke while awake and they try to get outside. They never puked on furniture (or themselves), mostly on a place on the ground where it is easy to clean away.

dothebart: You might have a point with the towel, although I was only using kitchen wipe paper. But this cat came from an animal shelter and she lost an eye due to an infection when she was a kitten. She does not like hands moving towards her at all. The additional paper might have triggered some evil memories from the past.

My cat and his treat ball.

Those are golf balls in the track, they are slightly larger than the original ball and harder, but not
impossible, for him to get out. I put the treats under the golf balls.

I want to post the video of him watching the birds eating out of the window feeder. He "hides" below the
window, it must drive him nuts because he used to be an outdoor cat and enjoyed birds.
