I'll get my thoughts in now, because zooer apparently wants me dead...

Anthrax seems to be the most well known bioweapon disease, because of the "brown poweder scares" that took place while the world still had 2001-sep-11 fresh in their minds. By now ... I'd be surprised if we didn't have the infrastructure to look for Anthrax and put a stop to it.

China-19 on the other hand, is literally documented as "novel". It's difficult to defend against a weapon that you don't yet know exists. And yes, it is too unpredictable to weaponize ... that's why the theory states that it got out of control before the China bioweapons people could figure out how to stabilize it.

China-19 came out of a nation that values cultural and political supremacy higher than the sanctity of human life. Like it or not, that's the cold hard truth. If they believed they could build a bioweapon that takes out "everyone else", and their domestic population is already too high, losing a few million people while perfecting it is not going to be something they consider a problem.\

All right, THIS is why demoKKKrats are the scum of the earth and should be rounded up and mass-executed. This makes me SO upset!

Nancy Ultra-Cunt Pelosi and her band of America-hating scumbag demoKKKrats rejected the bipartisan relief bill for the effects of the China Virus and introduced their own version:

* Forces new global warming restrictions on airlines
* Forgives $10,000 in student loans
* Same day voter registration, early voting, voting by mail, and ballot harvesting for illegal aliens and other non-voters
* Forces collective bargaining powers for unions
* Creates new global warming credits for solar and wind
* Forces new gender and race affirmative action issues on corporations
* Bails out the post office
* Extends nonimmigrant visas, ensuring low employment for Americans
* Gives money to the baby killers at Planned Parenthood

Nancy, I want you to DIE. I want you to SUFFER. I want you to feel a million worlds of pain. Fuck you, you arrogant America-hating cunt.

No, I don't want you dead.  I just want downstate sealed off.

Do you know who brought COVID-19 to western NY?  A New York City resident named Harvey Weinstein.  It needs to be sealed off.

Any thoughts on the speculation that Andrew Cuomo is giving himself so much airtime right now because he's actually campaigning for a Presidential run ... *this* year? (The suggestion is that he has already been selected as the Dementia Joe replacement.)

I think, btw that economy or lives is a false dichotomy.
if you don't slow the spread, and >2 million Americans die, many of them medical professionals, the economy won't recover anyway.

so it's economy crashes now or economy crashes later.

And not convinced it's a bioweapon, though if it were, it's exactly what Hitler would have wanted - kills the sick and frail.
though he would have been disappointed that it scars the lungs of some healthy people.

As for martial law and such... huge problem with democracy and freedom when it comes to public health....

Sending everyone best wishes for good health through this...

This

I am so tired of hearing that if you don't want to stop the virus using the most extreme messures now, you are a fascist who puts money over human life. I call that bullshit.

Economy is no Monopoly game they play in Wall Street. Economy is Jack harvesting corn and selling it. Joe fixing the plumbing so there is running water. That is economy. If you screw the economy, there is no more corn nor running water, and people fucking dies.

If economy was suspended in order to stop the virus, a lot of those who want to enforce harder lockdowns in certain places would start complaining because they are not receiving basic services in their area.

By the way, I also have the theory that people who puts human life above everything else are a bunch of hypocrites. If Human Life was infinitely valuable, these people would stop spending money in beer and Internet and pour all their money to work in order to fix world hunger or whatever. Since that is not the case, it is easy to conclude that having a beer is more important to most people that a random 3rd worlder dying of hunger.

Hitlery is still the favorite for this theory, of course, and everyone is assuming that she will either be installed as the replacement candidate at the convention, citing Dementia Joe's inability to serve (possibly even through his own declination of the nomination) or that he will step down -- or be "Arkancided" -- shortly after inauguration day.

I heard another interesting theory today. This is that if Hitlery is selected as VP and then they cheat massively enough to overcome the repeat of Reagan/Mondale that would happen without cheating ... that Dementia Joe will not be removed from office until two years plus one day after inauguration. This would give Hitlery the ability to serve a total of ten years as an incumbent President.

This is monumentally stupid, of course, but we're talking about someone who still thinks that her two embarrassing defeats were because of anything other than the whole world hating her guts.

No one really believes that. The phrase "if it saves even one life" is a sign that someone doesn't know statistics, logistics, epidemiology, or basic common sense. Sometimes you *do* have to cut your losses, even if those losses come in the form of human life.

I agree with triL though, that the lives/economy thing is a false dichotomy.
There are FAR more variables. It isn't just one knob that someone turns to determine the ratio of lives lost to money lost.

The real truth is that 100% of the people who accuse others of being fascists in the Western world in the 21st century don't know what a fascist is, and are leveling the accusation at someone who is not a fascist.

Essential services need to remain in place, and how they're defined is important.

Farmers need to farm, distribution needs to happen.

What doesn't need to happen? Stockbrokers don't need to go to wall street. No cruises, no tours, no museums, movie theaters, shows, live expos (only online), live conventions, etc.  Anything that can be done from home, should.

Clothing and other non-essential shops need to be doing delivery only.  Messengers need to be picking up sealed packages with gloves. delivering to the door with confirmation from inside or by phone - no contact -- and they need to be paid enough to make up for the lack of tips.  Grocery stores need to be either delivery only or limiting numbers of customers inside at once, and requiring everyone to wear a mask.

Distance learning sucks, but it's better than the kids being disease vectors.

Parts of the economy will suffer terribly. That's true. But they'll suffer terribly if lots of people die, too.

Around here, all the taxi drivers are now driving deliveries instead of people. It's less money, I'm sure, but it might keep them out of debt. A lot of people who lost their jobs are working grocery delivery instead.  Hopefully, again, it'll keep them out of debt - and it'll mean fewer people in the shops, which means less spread of the virus. Truck drivers are still working - just being more careful about interactions. Farmers, too.

You can't shut everything down, but you can shut a lot down, and hope it's enough to slow the spread so the hospitals aren't overwhelmed while we wait for the vaccine or the cure.

Grocery stores need to be either delivery only or limiting numbers of customers inside at once, and requiring everyone to wear a mask.

I have used Walmart's grocery delivery service twice with positive results.

There is a delivery fee, the two times I used the delivery service the fee was under ten dollars.  Walmart offers free delivery with a monthly/yearly membership fee, I will have to take advantage of the membership the next time I order.  They have a 15-day trial period.

Walmart delivered non-grocery items, deodorant, Refresh eye drops, cat liter, Neosporin as well.

For a limited time after you complete your order you can add items. There are limited delivery times and need to reserve a time. The first time I ordered the first available time was two days away. The second time I ordered there were not any time slots for two days. When I went to look for a time slot at 3am in the morning I saw that a 10am time had opened for the same day. I suggest looking for delivery times after midnight or very early in the morning for best selection.

I had the driver leave the order inside our garage and made no contact. The first time the driver was wearing a mask and wearing gloves, I did not see the second driver.  We washed or wiped down each item as we brought it into the house.

You may leave a tip from the "Your order has arrived" email.  If you have a problem with an order there is a "problem with your order" section on the website.

We need to end this destruction of the economy as soon as possible.

We're balanced way too far on the health care side, and not enough on the economic side.

Find the best ways to help the most vulnerable while opening things back up.

The long term effects are going to be worse than trying to "flatten the curve".

30% unemployment is unimaginable......

Homelessness. Disease. Substance abuse. Mental illness. Malnutrition.

Those are just some of the problems we're going to see with a crippled economy.

Our "leaders" are failing us.

If it were really only hitting the vulnerable, maybe. But it's not. If you kept in every person over 60 and everyone with an auto-immune disease and put everyone back into regular life, you'd still lose more than half a million Americans. I don't see how that can be considered an acceptable loss, especially when a high proportion of that will be medical workers, and there's already a shortage.

The solution is going to be more complex than that.
