Well this is interesting.

HelpDemocratsStealElectionsTube has reversed its policy of insta-banning anyone who points out the fact that the 2020 election was stolen.
What brought this about? Their stated justification is of course complete bullshit.
Do they feel they have all of their bases covered, and are now good enough at suppressing unwanted opinions in video search and recommendations that they can allow wrongthink to exist on their platform, confident that the number of people who actually view it is negligible?
Or are they running a Hundred Flowers Campaign, just like Maobama Tse-Tung did, to identify dissidents before locking them up?
Interestering parallels between the real world and the part in Babylon 5 before the station split from Earth Force. I'm rewatching the series and a few red flags presented in season 1 (when Jefferey Sinclair was still in command) which our real world is currently in the stages of.
Cmdr. Sinclair starts collecting pawlitical enemies as early as Episode 6 "Mind War". In "By Any Means Necessary" the dock workers went on an illegal strike, the Earth Alliance senate called on the Rush Act. A lot of people were expecting bloodshed just like when the Rush Act was used on Io to quell an illegal strike, but Cmdr. Sinclair found a more peaceful option, using the station's military funds that ... well the money is just sitting there, unused.
Commander Jeffery Sinclair is a lot like President Donald J. Trump in a lot of ways, including that he doesn't take shit from anyone. Y'all would like the episode "Eyes" (ep 16) where you can see the government really has a hate-boner for Sinclair.
Too freaky that the US government is mimicking the slow fall of the Earth Alliance government. It's uncanny.
Really a lot of scifi is that way. Even tho they are often set in the far future ( or alternative timelines ) the better stories do still use relatable human nature as a foundation of the story, so real life does tend to follow.
Even if the characters are not human.
They can also get away with a lot of 'statements' that would otherwise be shut down.

Sat Jun 03 2023 03:15:24 PM EDT from IGnatius T FoobarIs there an episode where an evil rich guy takes over the galaxy's computers with crappy software, then tries to eliminate meat and other foods from the universe while pushing fake vaccines, only to end up in an episode where he gets ejected from an airlock and explodes in the vacuum of space? I would like to see that.

And somehow I had gotten the impression that you wanted to see him fed feet first into a wood chipper.
its scifi .. gotta stay with the outer space theme.

You can always comission it from me as literary fiction. I could integrate that in one of my existing series. Then my cover would be blown and it would suck :-(

If I were the creative director, I would have him killed by members of the resistence who would dispose his body in a Soylent Green production facility, so the bad guy would be eventually fed to his acolytes.
In one of the later seasons of Babylon 5, President Clark (POTEA) creates a propaganda department. One of the programs created by that department is the Night Watch, and several B5 Security officers sign up (hey, it's an extra 100 credits a week!). The Night Watch gives them AN ARMBAND and a list of things to look out for, and saying all of those things to look for are to be charged as Sedition.
It doesn't take long for everyone on B5 to have had enough of the Night Watch bullshit, so all the security staff are arrested and sent back to Earth Force (the Earth Alliance's military is called Earth Force). Ambassador G'Kar of the Narn Regime provides a replacement security staff ... all Narn. This is extremely hilarious because the Narn Regime and Centauri Republic are in yet another full-scale war. No, this is still long before B5 splits from the Earth Alliance.
In the real world, we aren't yet at the point where the Night Watch is instituted, but we are getting dangerously close. Y'all really need to watch Babylon 5. If you've already seen it, watch it again. Now is a good time to do so.

That isn't science fiction. Let's reserve that fate for a more well-known terrestrial villain :)
gives them AN ARMBAND and a list of things to look out for, and
Oooooh ... we can see Mike Godwin lurking in the shadows!
Or how about eaten buy one of those robots that use 'bio fuel' as a source of power.
they sort of looked like a little wood chipper with wheels.
In Babylon 5, wood chippers do exist. You can tell because there's an area in the garden with wood-chippered mulch around the rose bushes. There is no wood chipper on the station tho, so that stuff has to be shipped in from Earth Central.
Sun Jun 04 2023 14:38:51 EDT from zelgomerI just want to know what sort of future this is where they no longer have wood chippers.
