So it looks like "copilot" is the next thing M$ is going to force on Windoze users whether they want it or not.
It's already non-removable from their Edge browser, and they're working on making it non-removable from Windows 11.
This comes after a long line of such behavior, of course. Windows 98 + Internet Explorer, Windows 8 + the "Windows Phone" UI, Windows 10 + Cortana, etc. etc. etc.
So they're back to their bad old habits. Fuck you, Microsoft. Die in an AI fire.

Coming soon, if you can convince Windows that you are in the European Economic Area, they have to allow you to uninstall Camera, Cortana, Web Search from Microsoft Bing, Microsoft Edge, and Photos. Furthermore, Microsoft's own bloatware has to be clearly labeled as "system apps".
I stopped using Edge recently because it's just too damn obnoxious with the other stuff it tries to force on you. I spent about a day and a half on Firefox before deciding that its inability to bypass TLS warnings was keeping me from accessing a bunch of internal web sites. Since our security department doesn't allow us to run Brave (since it has a Tor browser built in), I ended up going back to Chrome. Ugh.
Ya edge is worse than chrome for that stuff. But there is one issue we have that makes us stick with it at the office. My app, if you have large images embedded, Chrome freezes. Edge does not. its weird. Same engine, I would think it would act the same.
I saw that too about the uninstall mandate, my first thought was yay, but after the initial glee, I suspect there will be 2 versions of windows. one for UK, where you can remove, one for US, where you cant. They have had more than one regional version before so there is a precedent.
( of course only reason i have windows is for work, where i cant do much with it, so its sort of academic to me personally. just was nice to see. )

While I'm no fan of Gates I think there are some people who were worse than him; the low-hanging fruit being Hitler, Stalin, Mao etc. But, for whatever reason, no one seems to talk about the Roman Emperor Nero. (Although that last one is according to "church tradition" rather than the Bible, so take it with a grain of salt)

It always killed me that Windows didn't have one of my favorite small but near-indispensable features of most Linux window managers, namely the ability to move and resize windows by using the Alt key in combination with the mouse buttons. Today I found the Altdrag utility, and my life is immeasurably better. Highly recommended.
Next scene is both guys sitting in front of a computer with Microsoft Office on the screen. The first guy exclaims "Thank you! Now there is something I hate more than myself!"
Subject: still sucking after all these years
I've been trying to be kinder to Microsoft in the latter days, since they're far more open standards friendly these days, their clown is better than Amazon's, and a lot of their stuff either runs on Linux or is friendly to *ix systems. But the entire Windows ecosystem is still complete and utter garbage and deserves to be shredded in a wood chipper almost as much as Billy-boy himself.
I cannot get Visual Studio Code to start up on my ${work} computer anymore. Every time I launch it, the entire computer locks up. Browser windows freeze, filesystem access blocks, and eventually the network stops passing traffic. Because of one application. Dammit Microsoft, we knew how to do better than that 30 years ago!
And I don't care whether the problem is or is not VS Code. The problem is that Windows is, after all these years, still a bullshit design of an operating system that should never have seen the light of day.
