There's a difference between packing up and leaving and trying not to get caught unprotected with three kids if there's a rocket attack.

It's a bit disquieting listening to the Jingoism here. I firmly believe in the saying "Don't get mad get even!" .  Getting even isn't about vengence. I believe that any intelligent person would see getting even as putting a 'stop' to fear - not causing more of it.

I am born and bred in the UK, but i am Irish. My family is all Irish, mum/dad etc...  Now aswell as the Jewish people the Irish people have suffered a fair share ( and many might argue that the great famine was indeed a genocide, which to some extent it might have been, and also the land clearances in Scotland which certainly was), and as i work with alot of Poilsh people (their are over 2 million young poles in the UK at any one time; after they joined the EU) i know for a fact that the Poles suffered terribly during the last world war.  But the Irish and the Jewish people do share a bit - at least in recent history.

Do we really need to repeat history to learn the same old lessons again?  (i support the military btw, i have family in the USA in the US military, and also i have had many friends in the British army, (these are the people who have to sort out the mess people like you would cause if you were in a position to pass laws and start wars don't forget (i was also in the military of sorts, its a part of the British army for young people aged 13 to 18 - army cadets they call them).

In the UK we also have a very sizable Asian population, and both India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons - as you well know, and we have been on the brink of  a nuclear war on several occasions: ---- and you want to nuke an Arab country.

I really cannot fathom your reasoning. I can only assume you have lost your better judgment for a moment there?

President Paul gets in.

So if you equate 'arch conservative' with 'anti-semite' you err. And

you offend me.

I took from LS's comment that he didn't equate that so much as note that it exists within the far-right, if you notice it. While that might seem like a similar statement, I don't think it is.

The far-right is many things, but they do not claim, as a platform, anti-semitism or pro-christianism. They claim 'traditional' values, which s is as amorphous a statement as 'progressive' values, frankly.

The Israel situation is simple - Hamas must be brought to full surrender. Any other solution will end up with rockets continuing to rain down on Israel.

I would immediately agree if you could replace "surrender" with "destruction."

Even the Sicilian Mob knows that you don't leave the sons alive if you "whack" daddy. [known as the "Andolini error" - Godfather II]

vince, I'm only going to say this once: If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I believe I was both fair and clear in my statement: that there are CERTAIN ELEMENTS (the emphasis here is the key) on the far right that are most definitely not Israel's friend. You know who I'm talking about: the usual white supremacist types, who tend to hate everyone pretty much equally, blacks, jews and arabs in general - but Jews in specific.

If you're going to take remarks out of context and get yourself all worked up, that's your business. But since you asked, the proper context here is this: YOU went on a rant about "liberals." I merely responded "hey, liberals aren't the only villians."

And if you can't grasp THAT, maybe I'll start saying some things that REALLY ARE designed to offend you. :)

I know nothing about Rand Paul.

I judge politicians mostly by what they claim their platform is.

Of course, if you have pretty much no platform, then you might be
Obama...

Better (from Israel's perspective) someone with "no platform" (a debateable statement, but never mind) than someone who is an avowed isolationist (like his father before him) and is doing a bad job at thinly veiling that truth in his public remarks of late...

This only buys you a few years of quiet, while they resupply and rebuild.

I was thinking surrender like the Germans surrendered ending WWII.

TriL,  you should know by now that Hamas does not surrender.  Hell, they won't even keep a 72hr truce....

Frankly, there are nut-jobs on both ends of the spectrum.  I'd love to stick them all in a padded white room together for about 30 days and then see what's left over at the end of it.

Also, just for once, I'd like to see a moderate in office whose platform (yes, s/he must have one!) actually reflects some concept of the reality of today's world.  But that would require an honest billionaire, since s/he wouldn't have party dollars to run with and I'm pretty sure those don't exist.

Keep in mind that the German surrender was followed by the imposition of an occupation army totalling roughly half a million troops (mostly USA and Soviet) from 1945 through.... well.... there are *still* siginificant numbers of American military in Germany.

Initially it was "denazification" and then the Cold War.

Now, it's probably just the beer!

or maybe rather the outreach from europe - think of what you can easily reach with a Jet from southern germany;

Ramstein and (even cologne for supplies - I still can hear the galaxies roaring)  played significant parts in all Irak wars

all of the other troops left - meanwhile only the americans are left.

I am sure it is the same now as years back, when American GIs coveted an assignment to Germany.

You got to serve.
You got to visit a country with a rich cultural history dating back through (roughly) two millenia.
You got the opportunity to sight-see some of the absolute prettiest "landscape" on the planet.
You got to eat all that wonderful German food.
...and the Beer!!!
...and affordable Opera (with almost always outstanding performances).
... and on and on and on.

I won't bore you with my memories of the 1971 Bayreuth Ring (yup - got to see/hear all 4, right there in the Festspielhaus!!). Amazing !!!

And you just have not lived until you experience Nuernbug on a Sunday morning when the whole city "explodes" with the ringing of church bells for about a half hour - non stop - incredible. Nothing like it anywhere else that I've ever been.

The room shouldn't be padded. It should have land mines, gasoline, and matches.
