As someone observed a few days ago (elsewhere), if you remove "the poor" from the New Testament, particularly the Synoptic Gospels, you really have precious little left.

Giving [some|all] of what you have to the poor is encouraged in the Bible.
Having [some|all] of what you have *forcibly stolen* from you, and given (ostensibly) to the poor, may be found in Robin Hood and in the Communist Manifesto, but *not* in the Bible.
And from a political viewpoint, it is frequently observed by anyone paying attention, and ignored by the communist/socialist media, that conservatives consistently perform more charitable giving than liberals.
From a religious viewpoint, I need to point out that good works are the *result* of salvation, not the cause. Not the exclusive result, of course, as it's easy to observe non-Christians (whether Comrade Frank is included among that group is left as an exercise for the reader) performing good works.
Anyway, the real objective was to get Mom all bent out of shape ... mission accomplished. Unfortunately, however, Godwin-trolling is not as satisfying when the mark is not familiar with the glorious history of people being compared to Adolf Hitler in online discussions.
