Admittedly, I am not really up to speed on where Citadel or iOS is with respect to Cal/Card/GroupDav so maybe this just won't work at the moment but I can't get it working in Evolution either so I think something is borked on my end. This is a new install, it has never worked.

Hi Jon (Watson?)

The DAV interface exposed by the current WebCit is not CalDAV.   It's just plain old ordinary DAV.  Technically it's also GroupDAV but no one seems to use that anymore.  A proper CalDAV implementation is coming in webcit-ng ... in fact it's already working.  But it'll be a while before that code is ready for production.

If their mail gateway is anywhere near as good as their virtualization solution, it's going to be fantastic.

Yup, that's me :)

OK, good to know. I find the whole *Dav ecosystem hard to follow.

I'll wait for it.

Also...while I am here...do you have any suggestions for blocking remote image loading in the webmail UI?

When i delete a user from the admin page list it doesn't really delete the user. it sets it inactive. How do i see the deleted user list, manage it. and actually delete it so i can make another user with the same username?

The actual deletion should occur when the Dreaded Auto-Purger(tm) runs. The schedule for that is configurable.

Me again,

I'm trying to clean out my syslog which is full of citadel entries. I've tried to create custom rsyslog config but it is not working for some reason. I can't find any docs on this either. Anyone have a proper /var/log/citadel.log working?

Turns out it was my config.

If anyone else wants to do this (Ubuntu):

# head /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf
#  Default rules for rsyslog.
#
#            For more information see rsyslog.conf(5) and /etc/rsyslog.conf

:programname, contains, "cit" /var/log/citadel.log
& ~

Save it and restart rsyslog.

Thank you. changing the time worked to purge the deleted users. Is there not a way to check and reverse a deletion of users before the purge hits as well?

Subject: Searching forum / merging data

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Sorry if this has already been answered, but at present I can't do a search on the forum. Is this related to the recent update? I can't enter text in the search box.

I had my server fail (AMD64) and for a couple of weeks have been using an old raspberrypi setup. Of course that means I have two separate data sets.

I've sorted out the AMD problem and can access the old data via webcit.

Is there any way to merge the two sets? I'd like to go back to the AMD server and add the 76 messages that have accumulated while it was down.

Could possibly do something in Thunderbird to backup/restore if that were easier.

Thanks for any advice

Russell

Can you maybe use aidepost to insert each message into your desired instance? http://www.citadel.org/doku.php?id=documentation:system_administration_manual

Regarding search, it is purposely disabled. If you open up your developer tools you can see disabled="disabled" in the CSS. I re-enabled it and did a search but got no results. So, I assume it is disabled because it is broken somehow.

You might consider using a tool such as http://www.ardiehl.de/imapcopy/ to copy mailboxes from one server to another, under the control of a third client machine.

Subject: Not working

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So, I am installing on the latest version of Raspian on a Pi. I stumbled my way through the Easyinstall but while I could get into the web client, I couldn't get into the Telnet client.
The file is there in /usr/local/citadel/citadel and the permissions all look fine (I even CHMODed it to give the world full permissions), but it won't run. So, then I just ran apt-get install citadel-suite over the top of that install. And then the text client loaded (although with some complaints about the ical config being empty). Then I couldn't find the web client... somehow it had put it back on the default port even though I told it 8080 during the setup. The bigger problem was, both the web client and the text client would not accept my login password.
So... I tried running the easyinstall script again... and then, the webclient would accept my password... but now the text client won't actually launch again.

So, I tried apt-get remove citadel-package and then apt-get install citadel-package...

At this point, when I type citadel in a SSH session, it says, "attaching to server...
Can't connect: No such file or directory

Any ideas?

I used to be fairly handy with Linux... around Potato and Sarge. I haven't used it daily in a long time, and I am a bit rusty.

Subject: Start from Scratch

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I re-imaged the SSD on my Pi and started from scratch, following these instructions:

//I did a reinstall on my RPi recently, from scratch and a new Raspbian image flashed to USB.

sudo apt install apache2 db4.8-util javascript-common libjs-prototype libjs-scriptaculous libmarkdown2 libsieve2-1 tinymce libdb-dev build-essential curl g++ gettext shared-mime-info libssl-dev zlib1g-dev libical-dev libldb-dev libldap2-dev expat libexpat1-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev

was all of the packages I needed for the easy installer script to complete.//

Which made the easyinstall via curl go... easy... Everything appeared to work the first time, this time. I wasn't getting failed dependencies, having to install them, then run the curl install again...

But I have the same problem as before. The webclient is working, the telnet client isn't, and though I see citadel as a file in /usr/local/citadel when I try to execute it it says, "citadel: command not found".

I just logged into uncensored in a telnet session - so I know both the web server and the telnet server can run side by side... so... it must be me... any tips on where I should RTFM to figure out what is eluding me?

So, a couple of weeks ago I got it into my head to run a Citadel BBS on a Pi. A guy who is a lot more skilled than me warned me, "it is in real disrepair and hasn't been well maintained. Setting it up is a nightmare."

I thought, "how bad could it be.

I've figured out the concept of a front end webclient and textclient connecting to a back end server now, and figured out that the raspian .deb package seems terribly broke and that the easyinstall from citadel.org only installs the web client. So I downloaded the libcitadel libs and the textclient tar from the citadel.org site and extracted them and configured, made and installed the libcitadel, then did the same for the text client. Everything seems to have installed ok. But when I execute the citadel text client I get this:

@tsbbs:~ $ citadel

citadel: error while loading shared libraries: libcitadel.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Google says it has no idea.

So...

reinstalled the library and it told me I had to include the path if something was linking to the library:

If you ever happen to want to link against installed libraries

in a given directory, LIBDIR, you must either use libtool, and

specify the full pathname of the library, or use the `-LLIBDIR'

flag during linking and do at least one of the following:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

root@tsbbs:/home/pi/Downloads/libcitadel# cd /usr/local/lib

root@tsbbs:/usr/local/lib# citadel

citadel: error while loading shared libraries: libcitadel.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

root@tsbbs:/usr/local/lib# ls

libcitadel.a   libcitadel.solibcitadel.so.4.0.925  pypy2.7  python3.5

libcitadel.la  libcitadel.so.4pkgconfig       python2.7

Yup it is there... so I figured out how to add the path:

root@tsbbs:/usr/local/lib# echo "/usr/local/lib" > /etc/ld.so.conf.d/local.conf

root@tsbbs:/usr/local/lib# ldconfig

root@tsbbs:/usr/local/lib# citadel

commands: cannot open citadel.rc: No such file or directory

Seems citadel.rc ISN'T there...

So I do a find on it, and it is in /Home/Downloads/textclient/citadel.rc

So I go there and execute citadel... and it runs the citadel text client!

So I type in the username and password...

And I'm back to it not recognizing the password for the account.

tsbbs:~/Downloads/textclient $ citadel
Attaching to server...
[localhost:504]
Citadel 925
Citadel Server
(null)
 pause    next    stop
 ctrl-s  ctrl-o  ctrl-c

Cannot open '/usr/local/citadel/messages//hello': No such file or directory

Enter your name: ParanoidDelusions
Please enter your password: ********
<< wrong password >>

Which is what I was getting when I was installing it from the distro repo package.

I don't see anything in citadel.rc that clearly would impact user authentication.

Although, with it manually compiled and installed this way - it seems that I can still log in using the webclient - which wasn't working right when I had installed the text client from the repo. It seems like something in citadel.rc is breaking authentication... I'm suspecting if I moved it out of the home directory and rebooted, it might break the webclient too...

So, now that I've got everything up and running, one of my first callers noticed that in the Online Users page - it exposes the FROM host IP address.

Can this be turned off? It seems like a security risk for users.

It looks like individuals users can suppress being shown in the Caller log in the Telnet client with .Enter Configuration.

Is this what I am looking for, and is there a similar option in the Web Client I can't find?
