Not urgent, but it is something I get asked about weekly.

This is something we'll fix in webcit-ng, unless there's an urgent need?

Fri Mar 03 2017 12:14:54 PM EST from bennabiy @ Uncensored Subject: Sent Items room

I noticed that the sent Items room does not display who the message was sent to at a glance. I get many complaints about it. Can it be included for that room?

I tried the renaming (which worked on previous versions) but now I have different users which all have a different landing page, and had Lobby being recreated because of someones mail client, and so the room which used to be Lobby, but got renamed all of a sudden had a competing Lobby.

It is all messed up. I have one room which I cannot delete (even as the Aide) in a user mailbox, and I have random dissappearing Lobby acts.

Sun Mar 05 2017 06:10:40 PM EST from IGnatius T Foobar @ Uncensored Subject: Re: Force delete of a room

Also, how do I globally set what the _BASEROOM_ points to so all users go to the same starting room?

There are two ways to do this.

One is to simply rename the "Lobby".  That's the "true" _BASEROOM_ and users start there by default.

If all you care about is WebCit, you can start webcit with the "-g" option to tell it to begin on a certain page.  For example, here on Uncensored it looks like this:

/usr/local/webcit/webcit -p80 -g '/dotgoto?room=welcome%20to%20uncensored!' uds /usr/local/citadel

That tells it to begin new sessions by jumping straight to the "Welcome to UNCENSORED!" room, which is just a wiki room where we have a set of static landing pages.

Subject: NNTP

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A year or two back, I saw that NNTP support was no longer in Citadel, though supposedly this was just temporary. Is this back in, and if not, is there anything a non-coder can do to help get it back? (Like Urbit is becoming the easiest way to set up a web server, Citadel was always the easiest way to set up a news server.)

(As an 80's BBSer, I still prefer the traditional client. This web cancer is perplexing.)

Not sure where that crept in, but I'm fixing it now.  Stay tuned.

Ok, I've got the address book view fixed. A bug crept in when that screen was templatized (which makes me wonder how long it's been like that). I found another problem in that view where if you make changes to an address book entry it saves it in the wrong place ... as soon as I fix *that* issue I'll push the fixes out to Easy Install and you can grab them.

Are you sure it was this variant of Citadel? (We're pretty much the *only* variant of Citadel available these days, but there were others in the past.)

In any case, the NNTP server was never "officially" released, but it's still there and it works. However, it is read-only.

Pretty sure it was this version, though never underestimate the possibility of early onset Alzheimer's. Read only is closer than I expected, which is a plus. Any notions on how much effort posting would require? (Not that I expect there's a lot of demand, but we're already a niche of a niche of a niche, etc.)

I'm not a newbie to Citadel BBS, but I am to Citadel/UX, despite dabbling with it on and off for a few years. :) That said, I'm curious to know, with Citadel's features supporting Groupware applications, if it also fulfills a content management system requirements as well? I noticed that it has a wiki, so I'm wondering if anyone has used Citadel to power their own company's website? Would love thoughts on this.

I'm wondering b/c I'm thinking of exploring starting my own company, and hosting all my material on Github pages, while attractive, is also "just one more thing" for me to administer. If I can consolidate my admin workload, all the better.

Thanks!

The fix has just gone in and is now available via Easy Install or source tarballs.

There was a bug in the contact editor template that caused it to save any edited contact on top of your own personal information. This is obviously a problem (and may explain some other reports of email address problems).
It's been fixed.

Please take it for a spin and let me know if there are any other issues.

It's doable, and in future versions of the web server I'd like to add features which hide the Citadel chrome for that kind of purpose if you want to, but I don't know anyone who's running it that way right now.

WordPress auth with a citadel comment module would be a good thing.  It would offload a lot of writes from wp/mysql and give it it's own mail server.  Unix philosophy.

Subject: Need help fixing db corruption

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Had a power outage. Citadel DB corruption. Restart of citserver fails with 2 error messages:

citserver[32277]: configuration setting c_default_cal_zone is empty, but must not - check your config!

citserver[32277]: bdb(): cursor still in progress on cdb 02: attempt to write during r/o cursor

I've already tried the recommended DB fixes with db_recover and database_cleanup.sh. Also tried reinstalling Citadel using easyinstall, then copying back the supposedly repaired cdb.* files. No joy. Hoping for any help on how to recover the bad cdb.02. Also, what's stored in cdb.02? Maybe I can just restore the other cdb.* files and try to re-create cdb.02?

Any help at all will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I tried replacing cdb.02 with a 'clean' copy from a new install and just deleting cdb.02 completely. I get the same error message when starting citserver:

citserver[32751]: bdb(): cursor still in progress on cdb 02: attempt to write during r/o cursor

It doesn't matter which cdb.02 (or if no cdb.02) is in the data directory. error is the same. Why?

A wonderful place to start is http://www.citadel.org/doku.php/doku.php?id=faq:start

Also, take advantage of the search command up in the top right corner, it is a life saver when it comes to finding the right documentation.

It sounds like you've done everything we would normally recommend, and in the right order, too.

Unfortunately you'll probably just have to restore your most recent backup from before the power outage.
