I know many high school to college age students that play Minecraft.  I was even in to it when my son explained to me logic gates in the form of rudimentary blocks and other items in the game.  I was able to give him some of my old books to show him the real world analogs.  I think we both learned something from that exchange.

I play it with my kids. We have a chain of restaurants called "Meaty's" which use cow/chicken/pig spawner blocks suspended over lava to cook fresh grilled meat for patrons.

You don't use your flat top grill heated by your generator?

Sorry Zooer.  The Qix did not work for me as it was not in table top mode and I was not in a Pizza Hut at the time.

Funny how with all of the supposed mania over "surface" screens, no one has managed to build a table top video game system as alluring as the old ones from the 1980's.

(Although there are an awful lot of DIY'ers building retro-style ones of their own.)

Tron Dillinger's desk style?  Probably too much glare.

Actually, the Dillinger Desk pretty much *is* a table top video game -- a glass table with a CRT (or in his case, a bunch of CRT's) under it.   What I'm surprised about is that in the 21st century, bars and pizza places are not full of table top video games made out of big modern touch screens.  No one seems to be doing them, which is kind of weird when you think about it.  We have the technology, and this kind of thing is trendy.

probably someone has a patent on that to stop others from innovation.

Air hockey or something line it would work.  But, I suspect patent smell as well.

Air hockey on a tabletop ("light hockey" ?) would be awesome.

I got System Shock 2 from gog.com the other day during a giveaway promotion.
I installed it and started playing last night. Had to customize the control scheme to match the wasd movement I'm used to, but it's pretty seemless after that. A little annoying that there's no caption option; I've had kids for 8 years now and am accustomed to playing/watching everything with captions turned on.

Inexplicably hilarious to me: the futuristic phone booths on the street in the opening sequence.

Got the new DOOM. (And a Geforce 1070, which is overfrag for this game but should be nice for Witcher 3.)

Every level has a secret that opens up a classic DOOM level.

Got through the first level but only found 2/3 secrets--just the collectibles :-/

Well yes, my daughter is obsessed with all things Pokemon, so when this game came out we both installed it.

The hordes of Pokemon Go players crowding on places look like a merry bunch of zombies to me. With smart phones. A bit frightening and also a bit heart warming.

https://www.nintendo.com/nes-classic

The NES Classic Edition system is a miniaturized version of the groundbreaking NES, originally released in 1985.

Just plug the NES Classic Edition into your TV, pick up that gray controller, and rediscover the joy of NES games.

It features a HDMI out, but the controllers are sadly Nintendo proprietary only. But they fit into the Wii U gaming "ipad".
