Good! Now change everything while you have the temporary power.

I work with a few very smart people, which is good. It would be better if those same smart people knew how to troubleshoot.

We've got some code that does RADIUS authentication that doesn't work. I set up a RADIUS server and use a test client to show everything working perfectly.
I send PCAP files to the developer who is working on it, showing the damned thing works.

Continuing....

Our code doesn't. Why? Because we don't use CHAP, like every other RADIUS implementation on the planet. WTF?

But it took me three weeks to get him to acknowledge that it wasn't the RADIUS server I set up quickly for him. How many fucking times did I have to say "use the same test program I'm using"?!?

Fuck.

Heh... developer arrogance.

It's *so* easy to be arrogant as a developer. You've tested it this way and that, and you just know the other guy isn't doing it right, because you've done all these tests. But until you become more seasoned (read: beat down), you haven't quite learned that there's always another variable you hadn't considered.

Me (at a 9:00 meeting): "Sorry I'm late, I hit some traffic on the way in"

Multiple wiseasses: "You're actually at the office??"

Me: << turns camera on >>

Multiple wiseasses: "Wow! You're really there!"

So much for DADT. I'm going to have to start doing chroma key or something.

Got up at 1am this morning to work out, then get to the office at 2am to work.

The customer is in a timezone somewhere across the world, and we needed to provide some initial support, as this rollout hasn't been the smoothest.

But, although I expected awful things today, it has gone fairly smoothly, everything considered.

And since I generally get up by around 3am anyway, it isn't that much earlier for me. And I'll leave for home early. -ish. They're running late.

Timezones suck, yes, but with or without them, people like to be awake when the sun shines in their area of the world. I would still have had to cause myself to awake deeper in the dark than I'm accustomed, to work with folks halfway across the world who, at that time, enjoyed the sun shining down on their day. I doubt we could have convinced them to take these tests at a time more convenient for us, heh.

I would be perfectly fine with moving the whole world to UTC and simply saying "here in the eastern US, the work day starts at 14:00" because at least we would know the clocks are the same everywhere.

I suppose there might be a problem in some parts of the eastern hemisphere where the calendar day always changes in the middle of waking hours. That could get weird. But I don't live there so it's ok :)

Peculiarly, my voice weakened after this adventure.

Ever since recovering from chicken pox, I've struggled to get my voice to the strength I had.  I see a vocal trainer on Saturdays in an effort to both improve its strength and improve my singing in general (true fact: before now, I never had formal vocal training beyond paying attention to choir directors).  I think I had some success in that effort, but now... ugh... I don't have the strength to carry out what was once tricky, but not overly difficult.

I hate this.  I don't know if I should blame the chicken pox (still), the weight loss, or the fact that I'm over 50 years old now.

I *really* hope I can avoid blaming my age.  I can recover from everything else, but I can't recover from my age.

Why don't you get an apartment closer to Shanghai?

This weeks workplace is Atlanta.

Two weeks ago was Grand Rapids.

Before that was Scottsdale.

I guess I'm moving East. Next week will be in Bermuda?
