Hmm.  I really liked both of the Motorola phones I've owned (a StarTAC and a RAZR).

I think this reply was meant for a different room?

Yesterday, while I was cleaning up my office, removing ancient and lost tech from drawers, I realized that this whole "Apple is removing the headphone jack" drama is probably played out by teenagers and wankers. I found several Sony Ericsson M610 prototypes (successor to the M600) and realized that this phone did not have a headphone jack. It had one of the best keyboards, but it lacked a camera and was using Symbian. Still I liked it a lot and James Bond used it. You could argue "well this is kind of a business phone, no need for the jack", also you could use a SE proprietary adapter to plug in headphones, but still, it was an odd duck.

But even more odd is, that all of the Walkman type mobiles made by SE at that time lacked the head phone jack! And nobody cried, cause they always delivered them with the proprietary adapter. I had the W580 for a while and was a really nice mobile, long battery life time, nice features, even a camera. But no jack! http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_w580-1928.php

Which made me realize that all my mobile phones from 1996 until 2010 did not have a native head phone jack. At best, they offered a compatible adapter. The Nokia ones offered a free speech set with proprietary plug for their phones. Ok, admitted, until maybe 2003-4 or so, you could not even store music on the phones.

The Nokia C7 I got in 2010 had a headphone jack, but at that time, there were two different standards for handsfree sets with the headphone jack. So listening was no problem, but if you wanted to use the mic or volume buttons, you needed to know which ones to buy.

So there maybe was a window of roughly 10 years of headphone jacks of various quality and problems. Stop crying.

It seems I remember a cell phone from several years ago not having a headphone jack.  I didn't own in, I just remember people complaining about it.  I always made sure my cell phone had one after that.  This might have been before smartphones.  The phone had a port or jack but it wasn't a mini RCA

Well yeah, that's still pretty clear.  Although they are no longer the threat they once were, I'd still be delighted if they would simply cease to exist.

You know what ... for someone only 61 years old, Bill Gates doesn't look very good. I hope he dies soon.

I've realized lately that even though I no longer consider Microsoft to be as big a problem as it was in previous eras, I still suffer from Gates Derangement Syndrome.  Whenever I see a photo of that asshole, the person who single-handedly ruined computing for decades, the global criminal whose acts of inhumanity are worse than Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, and Stalin combined, I am reminded of how much I still want to see him fed feet-first into a wood chipper, operating at the slowest possible speed to ensure that he suffers as much as possible.

Die in a wood chipper, Bill Gates.  I hate every molecule of your being with the heat of a thousand suns.

I propose we reform the income tax system in the United States.

Instead of many tax brackets, we just have two. One for the top 1 and one for everyone else. And I really do mean 1, not 1%.

Those in the top bracket, which means Bill Gates, are taxed at 100% of their net worth, with a mandatory death penalty for either paying or not paying.
Everyone else gets a small flat tax.

The only issue with that is, eventually YOU would be at the top 1... it may take a while, but eventually it would happen.

Well, according to a bit of crude statistical analysis, there are about 39 million people who make more money than I do, and I only plan on living another six years (but I may extend that to another 30-50 years depending on how I feel about it). So I don't think I really have anything to worry about it.

Notwithstanding that, however, I'm perfectly ok with sunsetting the top bracket after Gates has paid both his taxes and his penalty.

I was typing something into a field in a web application, and made a typo.

I reached for the backspace key ... but accidentally hit F11 instead.

The computer promptly blue screened.

Bill Gates must die.
