Since that car is so old, I bet some of you have never seen inside one.. how small they really are and why i say we would never have had a chance to escape.. soooo a picture. ( hint for those on text client :) ) This was the day before. No, no back seat, that is full of engine, and that center console IS the gas tank ( both due to space and to distribute weight better towards center of the car ).  You have to climb out of the seat, cant just roll or fall out. Worse than my brother's vette.

Dog is around 85 pounds for weight. Average sized female GSD. ( long hair, red coat. not real common im always getting asked "what is she" then "is she real"  "yes, she is, and AKC registered " )

I am!  Is very nice.  The lack of a traditional geared transmission
means acceleration is SUPER SMOOTH.  When I have a ride that starts

Some people hate CVT and others seem to love it. What bugs me is that some (all?) of them have "fake shifts" programmed into the acceleration pattern to give the effect of an automatic. That seems really stupid to me.

We just put another car on the road for my daughter, a 2016 Accord (given to the spoiled brat by her grandmother), which has a CVT. I want to see if there's a way to reprogram it to get rid of those stupid fake shifts.

It's like the fake engine noise they put into all-electric cars. If I ever own an electric that's going to be the first thing I permanently disable.
I hate skeumorphism in cars. Make it act the way it actually is.

I think its required by law to make some sort of noise, be it that or the jeston noise or something.  So that people know you are coming and dont walk out in front of you ( at low speeds )

The fake shifting only happens in Normal and Sport modes.  Eco mode disables the fake shifting.  This fake shifting thing is one thing I hate.  I have an eCVT, it should not be shifting.

Nothing is gonna stop dumbasses from walking out in front of cars, regardless of speed.  The noise requirement is meaningless and serves no purrpose.

While stupid people will still i agree, we have a bolt down the street, and with how he drives, if you couldn't hear the 'noise' you might get run over.   Plus.. Blind people rely on sounds to get around, even with a dog.   Actually we do to, you dont really realize how much until its gone ( i lost hearing in one ear one summer for about a month.. it was a rather eye opening experience ). Much more appreciation for people who have hearing issues.

Now i totally agree the fake rumbling is stupid, but a bit of noise isn't a bad thing. ( slow speeds some tires are dead silent )

Hmm, now the Jetson noise could be cool. :)

Seems like it's only required below a certain speed? I suppose if you disable it you could be held "more" liable in a pedestrian collision. But the *interior* noise? Quite literally, fuck that noise.

New front bumper for jeep arrived. Someone come put it on.   ( its got support for a winch. ) Gotta make a bracket for my light bar. Its made for 2 separate lights, i want my bar instead.  Just personal preference.

I continue to be a fan of the trad-gearboxes-with-more-gears approach. The ZF 8-speed is the new industry benchmark for longitudinal applications for a reason... and I've been averaging 30.7mpg in a pure ICE vehicle lately.

Lots of local stories this week of "EVs not working well in this cold snap" "Disaster for local Tesla owners" bla bla.   Well, its January, its the Midwest, it gets cold here and batteries dont like cold. Its just physics, regardless of Al Gore thinks.

Want to drive an EV all year, perhaps stay south... or follow the birds in the fall.

Even i have a heater on the battery in my jeep, and did on other cars in the past.   and it gets a LOT colder up north.

My hybrid was able to start just fine.  Drive battery was flat so she just ran the engine until it charged up.  Monday's all-day extreme cold kept sapping the drive battery, so I ended up using half a tank of explodey juice for a mere 120 miles, super bad fuel efficiency.

But unlike an all-electric car, my hybrid was still usable.

Right, you have that advantage of being self-sufficient with explody juice.    Like I have always said, while i dont want one, hybrids are ok.  100% electric, no.   Just one more example of why.

And ya, i bet MPG sucks in that case.

And speaking of cold and batteries.  Seems the battery in the Jeep died.  Wont even charge now. So its toast.

And since the Fiero has the wrong post style, and i dont have conversion posts ( last one i had, had both side and top.. but not this one )  i guess i jump it Sunday and drive over to get a new one.

Was too cold for them to change the battery.. I went in laughing, "you are not going to like me"  And the guy must have read my mind: "boss this morning said no wiper, battery changes today, or alternator tests, but we can test a battery". As expected its hosed.  Its also far older than i thought, he rubbed the dirt off to check the brand ( i guess to see if it was one of their or not. i donno i told him it was old.. ), and its a NAPA battery.. means its at least 10 years old.. How the hell it lasted this long, i dont know...  And i didnt feel like swapping it in the lot like a goober ( plus, ya, it was cold. ~ 9 degrees ) so i guess i get to return the old one later today and get my core charge back.

I learned today that my beloved Toyota Tacoma (I own a 2015 model) is no longer available with a V6 engine. They're only going to make it in Turbo V4 from now on. What the hell, Toyota? Who wants an underpowered pickup truck? And it looks like they're about to do the same thing to the 4Runner (which is basically a Taco with a different body on it).

They also did the same thing to their larger truck, the Tundra. No longer available with a V8, you can only get it with Turbo V6 now.

The people forcing auto manufacturers to make horrible vehicles because muh green are destroying the industry and need to be lined up on a highway and run over by a parade of gas guzzlers.

My Dad has been a truck guy for a long time. Mainly Silverados, but after his 2004 basically fell apart in 5 years (the brake lines rusted through, WTF???), he went Toyota. On his second Tacoma now and he loves it. Pulled a small camper with it, V6 needed. Definitely he won't be happy about the Tacoma & Tundra news. He's now in a not-great situation where he bought a camper too big for his Tacoma to haul, so I suspect he is looking for a larger truck. V8 Tundra would do the job. It takes him years to commit to a vehicle purchase, maybe I will have to help him.. accelerate this one.

Depends on what you're looking for, I guess. The good old 3.5 liter V6 is 278 horsepower. It isn't the greatest fuel efficiency but if you take care of it, it will last a LONG time. They had a 2.7 liter V4 that only produces 159 horsepower, which seems useless all around.

This year, they get that same 278 hp out of a Turbo V4. So it produces the same power with more fuel efficiency -- but it's a turbo, so it isn't going to last as long. Turbos always require more maintenance and have a shorter life.

There's also a hybrid. Also a Turbo V4 but with the hybrid drive it produces 326 hp. I suppose if I had to buy a new one this year it would be this one.

So had to drive the wife's car yesterday. ( long story, but its lower to the ground than the jeep, so she can get in far easier and that was needed yesterday ).  its fairly new. Its got all that stupid electronic crap.

Heat was on. I was hot. i turned it off. ( after having to go thru 3 levels of menus.. idiots, remind me to tell a related story about that in another room sometime about user interfaces, if i haven't already ) Turned itself back on a minute or 2 later.  Turned it off. Again, back on.  I called the car a name. Then it would not shut off at all.....

All my HVAC controls are literally one tap away.  Yes, I can turn the whole HVAC system off, too.
