If your phone number is 382-5968 it makes sense.

My landline has become useless in a similar way. Nomorobo hangs up on most of the predictive dialers, but the damn thing rings all day long. I don't even bother to look at the caller ID anymore during the day. In the evening it might be a family member so we at least look.

My office phone is starting to get overrun with junk calls now too, though, and they're starting to creep up on the mobile as well.

What happens when telephones in general become unusable? Will we be forced to live in a world where telephone calls can only be made between parties who have pre-arranged to whitelist each other? What will businesses do when they are spending more time answering robocalls than making pizza?

I laugh at the calls I get in the office telling me that we need to update our credit card merchandise software... I tell them "we don't take credit cards.." and they tend to hang up pretty fast.

Same here - when the 'landline' (VOIP, actually - copper is dead) rings, we never look. Maybe check the answering machine once a week. So non-cell phones are even more useless than email in [CURRENT YEAR].

Subject: Mark Zuckerberg Finishes Another Long Day Of Deciding What People Should Believe

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

MENLO PARK, CA—Giving his arms and legs a nice little stretch while reclining in his office chair Thursday afternoon, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, confirmed that he had successfully completed another long day of deciding what people around the world should believe. “We’ve got two billion users now, so it’s never been more important to show […]

The ONLY redeeming value of "Shark Tank" is that it provides a good string to put in spam filters.

Facebook is the worst thing ever to happen to the universe and Mark Zuckerberg is the lowest form of life on the planet.

That is all.

Does your robots file allow crawling of the pkg-citadel room? It is full of links to spammy shit,

Still full of spammy shit

Ignat, can you please re-post the host file info to block all the Facebook servers?

Oooh, I don't do it that way anymore. I found a better way.

First, add these "custom filters" into Adblock Plus (you *are* using Adblock Plus, right? Not the fake "adblock" with that whiny kid and his wife begging you for money, right?)

||fbcdn.net^
||fbcdn.com^
||facebook.net^
||facebook.com^

Then, if you don't have it already, install the "Facebook Blocker" [ https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/facebookblocker/cohbmkonphbnkadgpcpofdpjiopbbhdl ] (or its equivalent, if you are using some other browser) extension. This extension is built specifically to block Facebook on any site other than Facebook itself, so they can't track you and follow you around all over the Internet.

That room receives a Debian mailing list which receives spam.

What if I wanted to block facebook at the router?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Does the router do DNS for you? If so, install empty zone files for those four domains. The hosts list is just too long to deal with these days.

I know I can block certain domains.  Yes it does have DMZ.  The option you mentioned above does not work, it still took me to Facebook... it was awful, I might have to sue.
