Video World - The Death of a Video Store (Video Store Documentary)
[16 min]

Video World is like other movie rental stores. It's the best place in town to discover new films. It also went out of business. Documentary filmmaker Ben Churchill returns to his hometown of Woodbury, Connecticut to capture the store's final weeks and celebrate the dying culture of local video stores.

We still have one place I can go and find just about anything not available online. I forget what it was that I went there for last, something from my youth I wanted to share with dude I was seeing.

I wonder if Blockbuster would have survived if they had been willing to have an adult section?

I don't know. You're asking about one of the things that the internet made easily available for free.

so I was in Dallas at a Pen Show, and met a guy who grew up a block from my old house in Hartsdale. Went digging on google maps and holy moly, I can still find the house, but I'm still upset that they put vinyl siding over the stucco.

Yea, I picked up a few vintage fountain pens, some new ink, and a lovely journal.

I ran a Citadel-68K BBS in South Jersey from 1985-1989 or so.  Yeah, so that's why I'm nostalgic. :)

oh man, was at the diner in north white plains, it's changed a bit since whenever I was there 20 years ago, but was still lovely.

The original "North Castle Diner" went out of business and was closed for some time. The restaurant that's there now is a new one in the same building.

What really surprised me was just up the street -- that the Little Spot went out of business. I thought that place would have been a gold mine but apparently not.

No more Little Spot. Oh I hate it when that happens.

Pandora - I used to live about a mile north right off that street.

Little Spot owners didn't pay their taxes.... They owed North Castle over $600,000...... North Castle refused to settle with them and demanded the full amount, so they folded.

Well, the food was good, and I dunno why the diner food here in austin doesn't taste as good. My odl house is apparently 3.3 miles away, I drove by it and took pictures, and then managed to find my 3way home without directions. I was rather proud considering I didn't drive when I lived in ny. The drive up 22 from white plains to bedford was AMAZING, I teared up quite a few times.

I spent 7-8 months in Austin...don't remember any actual diners. Some really good breakfast/lunch places, but never ran across an actual diner.

If we knew you were going to be around, we would have had a meetup at the Kensico Dam.

I didn't announce I would be there because I was just in for the weekend to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday. I did drive by the dam and cry there too. LOL. Y'all are so lucky to have such trees all about!
