My mousie is a SteelSeries Rival 710.  Costed me $100.  Is good
mousie.  Not many frills.  Does have two DPI settings and a button
to switch between them, which is useful at times.  1200 DPI for
pixel-purrfect operations, 2400 DPI for everything else.  It also
has a replaceable tail, because mousie tails seem to always fail at
some point.

Today I learned that the hacker jargon term for a wireless mouse is a "hamster".

Because it doesn't have a tail.

I suspect the length of his legs is probably a factor as to what degree :)

TIL that TicketBastard no longer allows you to print your tickets. You must have a smartphone and bring it to the theater because the bar code is ANIMATED.
"A screenshot won't get you in," the web site proudly proclaims.

It is amazing that these assholes still have no real competition.

I recently had the chance to see a "surprise musical guest", but would have been required to carry and present government-issued photo ID. I told my wife I wouldn't do that if it was a once in a lifetime chance to meet my favorite person in the world after her.

I've known about that for years.  Sadly, the hoomans who are in for hooman extinction refuse to self-extinct.  It's bizarre.

Yeah. All of the Gaia worshippers want a mass die-off that doesn't include themselves. But they're NIMBYists in all other ways too, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Today I Learned that there is a font family called "IBM Plex" and it's actually kind of nice. I'm using the monospace version as my terminal font now.

And also available as "fonts-ibm-plex" in the debian/ubuntu repos.

Today I Learned that in pre-Stoker culture, vampires were depicted as having arithmomania, an obsessive need to count things. In some lore a vampire attack could be thwarted by spilling something like seeds or rice grains on the ground, and the vampire would prefer to count them instead of continuing the attack, giving the victim time to escape.

Count von Count, from the old days of pre-pedo Sesame Street, was just a happy coincidence. In western culture, the archetypal vampire is Bram Stoker's "Dracula" -- also known as Count Dracula, which inspired Children's Television Workshop to create a vampire obsessed with counting. But that's only a coincidence -- they likely didn't know that outside of Stoker's work, vampires were *always* obsessed with counting things.

Learn something new every day, or you die stupid, I always say.
