My small achievement for today:
I got "first post" on Slashdot.
(Yes, they're still around! And it's a crap ghost town. I saw a story and made a comment and then realized I got F1RST!!!1)
[ https://goo.gl/fyEzkc ] if anyone cares :)
Didn't we used to have a Small Accidents room?
Helped a friend paint their new place today. But my favorite sneakers must have been frightened. As soon as I got there and pulled out the paint the sole of my right sneaker pulled off near completely; held on only at the toe.
So what does any geek in this situation do? Why duct tape it of course! But of course, just as I finish my perfect taping job and stand to go to work...the *other* sole pulled off! And yes...that one also got the Tape Treatment.
All I needed was a pair of glasses on which to put matching duct tape....
My sneakers don't.
I purchase 'classic' style sneakers, which are difficult to find, but helpfully give me the appearance of living on this planet, rather than space-walking near Omicron 3.
Hey, what's wrong with Omicron 3? :-P
Zoo, They were probably circa 2010 New Balance sneaks. Probably the most comfortable I've ever worn.
I have given up on NB, I always thought they were great sneakers, that lasted a long time. Now they don't seem to last and are very uncomfortable.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with space-walking near Omicron 3.
However, I do not wish to appear as if that is what I am doing.
I've been a fan of NB for a long time; they come in widths that accommodate my somewhat wide feet. That's nice and comfortable.
Also they're still made in the USA, which is a win.
Well, I managed to work the pipeline back to instruction decode stage, and it now properly decodes memory stores (8, 16, 32, and 64-bit) as well as register-immediate ALU operations. This is sufficient to spoonfeed the pipeline with instructions to load a register with arbitrary value, as well as to store said value at an arbitrary address. It's not Turing complete yet, but it's getting there.
Slowly.
New job!
Not only did I get a new job - but I even get a new job together with my boss (who r0cks)!
Loved the old job.....loved the old team
New execs ruin everything
New job is awesome!
Fun fact: back when I was first laying out my plans for the Kestrel-3, I was seriously considering hosting the code in a Fossil repository. The rationale was that, since Fossil is a single C binary, it'd be relatively easy to port compared to something like Mercurial or Git (which requires not only porting a C compiler, but Python and its dependencies and basically half of a Linux distribution's user-land, respectively). This would allow me to dogfood with the new computer, supporting Kestrel development on the Kestrel itself.
Alas, people at the time convinced me out of that idea. It was probably a mistake, but oh well.
