My favorite pizza place from 30 years ago is still in my hometown. I tend to eat there a couple of times a year. Just really miss playing Guantlet with my high school friends when I go there.

Alas, it seems we're so spead out over the Big Wide Internet that the travel requirements for a true user group meeting are a problem. On the other hand, this *is* the side effect of what I wanted, 20 yers ago...

What I wanted was to attract *new* people that weren't within dialup distance.
20 years ago that meant spending $300/month or more on a 56K circuit (or more than $1000/month for a T1) -- not the kind of money I could afford to spend on a hobby. I'm satisfied with how it ended up, but I do wish I'd been able to get us onto the Internet maybe 3 or 4 years sooner; it would have made a big difference.

That's the point. What else is there to say?

Just had a nice visit with Shazam, and two of her children.

I thought the kids would love to watch a cartoon, so I pulled out my copy of Fritz the Cat for them.

Not sure I'll see Shazam again, but I hope so.

Heh.. truth be told, I *wish* I had a copy of Fritz the Cat. I've seen it, and while it isn't a particularly great film, it's interesting. I like Crumb's artwork, but Bakshi's efforts were ridiculous.

It helps we're on the same continent. Still, I do feel fortunate!

I see Shazam every now and then too. No big deal, really, though now that you mention it, I also feel fortunate.

Any videos my kids may or may not have watched aside, it was a nice visit. triL, I'm bound to come visit Israel one day too, we'll get together again.

Investment?

Not a good idea unless you're renting it out the old-fashioned way. Over the very long run, the real price return on housing stock is, historically, about 0%.

Oh, sorry, were we supposed to be teasing LH?

Yes, you are teasing LH about her badly chosen investment. :)

From an investment point of view, real estate may not appreciate as much as other commodities, but if the alternative is paying rent, it's still the best way to go to avoid just throwing away money.

Speaking of which, there is a lovely house just outside of Mount Kisco NY which is still available. :)
