What I find odd is how people are willing to call a gun that is unregistered "illegal" but if someone crosses the border and doesn't register they are "undocumented".

And then, there's the matter of whether or not a gun is supposed to be registered.
In the state where I live, there is no gun registry...I can buy any gun from any store or individual, and have to register it with absolutely nobody or nothing.
Now, whether or not a gun is legally possessed is another matter, altogether.

Some time around 1990 I lived in an apartment on a block of first and second floor duplex apartment houses. Living in the duplex next door were two senior ladies in each of the apartments. I was on my back porch and the women were on their respective porches shouting too each other as they gossiped back and forth. At the time the William Kennedy Smith rape trial was going on, one of the old ladies said, "You would think the woman [who was raped] would be proud to have been raped by a Kennedy." Interestingly enough, a friend of mine in NYC attended the Irish Repertory Theater's 30th anniversary gala, where the honoree was none other than Bill Clinton.
This friend, who is relatively left leaning, noted that in his speech, Bill actually said:
