When I first moved out here to California I went to one of the bars in Chico
that featured local rock bands 4 nights a week.
Not "garage bands" but bands that had real promise. Good sound. Good vocals. Etc.
One night the band was a local bluegrass act that was very good. One of the people there with me knew the lead (singer/banjo) so after the performance I got to actually meet the band. Not a big thrill, but nice.
So the lead/banjo guy asked me what I thought of one of their songs - "I wrote that about 2 years ago" was what he said.
What I said was "I liked it better on piano, the way I learned it in high school, the way MOZART wrote it about 300 years ago."
The banjo work in that thing of "his" was a note-for-note ripoff. Caught him. He was not pleased.
Sucks to be him. In many ways. And I told him that.
And here, about 12 years later, HE was convicted of felony spouse abuse and is currently awaiting trial for child molestation. A real dirtball scum. Didn't know about all that "other side of him" stuff back then.
Seems that music plagiarism was the **least** of his faults.

Hm... no mention of Fux, Bach, DesPrez, or event Mozart, but then,
Those guys are all pretty cool ... they sound a lot like the Sex Pistols.
I want to put together a band and play "Helter Skelter" so I can introduce it by saying, "This is a song that U2 stole from Charles Manson. We're stealing it back."

And here I thought "Helter Skelter" was from the White Album (Beatles).
Silly me....
Go to http://blip.tv/todds-pop-song-reviews/top-5-awful-moments-in-u2-s-rattle-and-hum-5265501 and start playing at about 1:50
I understood the reference but it still confused me. I thought maybe you were upset because you didn't get an
invite to Chucks wedding.
invite to Chucks wedding.
In less than 24 hours it will be the-day-after-thanksgiving.
And I expect, hope, and demand, that as soon as the Stupidfest season is officially underway, that fleeb will once again share with us, the most heartwarming, most moving, most wow-it-makes-chills-run-down-your-back rendition of a Christmas song ever to be recorded.
The rest of you have been warned. :)
This is the one thing I have to listen to every year to get me into the proper spirit for the season.
I don't think we ever did figure out whether it really is that bad or if it was just someone trying to sound bad. Either way, it's the flagship recording for the season.
For years I thought an aquaintance of mine from Charlotte, NC helped make this, but I suspect now he was joking (he often has to deal with terrible talent).
If the guy is intentionally singing like this, he has wonderful comic timing.
If the guy is not intentionally singing like this, he still has wonderful comic timing, even if he doesn't know it.

That recording sends shivers throughout - but not for the 'good' reason...
<evil grin>
If I were offered the following choices:
1) having a singing voice like the one in that recording
2) dying in a car fire
I'd pick #2.
