Not that NASA would do any better these days. Now that B. Hitler Obama has ordered NASA to transform itself from a space agency to a global-warming-and-muslim-outreach agency, all they can manage to do is get rockets to explode on the pad.
The Space Shuttle program was extended several times beyond its originally envisioned 15-year life span because
of the delays in building the United States space station in low Earth orbit — a project which eventually
evolved into the International Space Station. It was formally scheduled for mandatory retirement in 2010 in
accord with the directives President George W. Bush issued on January 14, 2004 in his Vision for Space
Exploration.
I think that means the space shuttle was retired by George W. Bush.
The same guy who gave us the TSA, the Patriot Act and who spent like a drunken Kennedy.
Kennedy.
The same guy who gave us the TSA, the Patriot Act and who spent like a drunken
....also, in the same breath, issued the "return to the Moon by 2020" directive and "Mars by 2030." Both of which were completely scrapped by the mindless charlatan currently wasting America's time and resources pretending to be president. G. W. Bush also committed us to a new launch vehicle and crew capsule by 2016. Surprise. We're not going to have that either. Thank you Hussein Obama.
We absolutely need a return to leading-edge manned space flight. Lest you forget, thousands of lives are saved daily through the technologic spinoffs of the Apollo project. Things we take for granted every day. And the jobs!
Yes. Space costs money.
Some things are just worth the cost.
Space is one of those things.
Politically-correct pandering is not.
Thu Nov 13 2014 03:42:35 PM EST from IGnatius T FoobarLittle do they know, the snow blower is hiding in another town right now.
I also have a plow. And if you mess with the John Deere, the ninja pets will have to deal with our Pennsylvania relatives who have guns, enjoy using them, and are religious about John Deere.
Pshaw, you needed a Steiger to mow them all flat. As they are good Minnesota ninja cats, they would have to run away.
If I had it my way, both our generator and our lawn tractor would be Caterpillar.
Unfortunately, Cat does not make anything nearly that small in either product category. (It could be argued that the homeowner-size Deere products aren't "real" ones either, but at least they try...)
By the way, the generator finally made it home last night. The snowblower is still on vacation.
A Connecticut Ninja in King IG's Court?
Sun Nov 16 2014 08:00:02 EST from IGnatius T FoobarIf they were, sure ... but they're Connecticut ninja, not nearly as hardy as real ninja. And I don't really have a choice; we're a Deere family and I'd like to keep the extended support network around.

OMG !!!!! The world is going to end on the 21st of December and you peopledon't seem to care!
I'm ready for the end of the world. No biggie. If it comes tomorrow, fine; if it comes on 2014dec21, fine, if it comes on 2038jan19, that's fine too.
No sense worrying about it, as I "know not the day nor the hour" [Matt. 25:13].
Actually it might be nice to get off this rock.
Actually it might be nice to get off this rock.
Just don't land on just another rock with one leg hanging out into space and your solar cells in the shadow.... ;)
Not only is the generator home now, but it's been tuned up and exercised:

I hate having to use orange extension cords but we haven't built a transfer panel at the new house yet. Also in photo: very long driveway, which inspired me to buy a plow attachment for my John Deere. It gets snow out of the way and also mows down Connecticut Ninja Cats.
Nice genny pic, IG.
More than enough to power your new ham shack!
Let's do Field Day in your back yard in June!! I'll bring a radio or three, you supply the emergency power and the 100 ft towers and antennas!
And we can use my call! Since you are in New York, it can just be "K2NE" instead of using the "/" for a different call district. Just like Old Times!
Yup. I can see the auto-keyer for the CW bands now....

Fun !!!

How long do you run the genset under load for a single break-in session?
Also, if the genset is 5,000w (continuous), should you run around 75% load for each break-in session?
Thx.
How long do you run the genset under load for a single break-in
session?
I ran mine at 50% load for a half hour at a time.
