Why won't email die, dammit?! While we have reasonable communications alternatives from social and collaboration vendors, email numbers continue to go up. This is in contrast to consumer email usage which is projected to drop over the next 4 years. Why are we willing to forgo email for social at home and not at work?

GALPon, was formed in Vigo, a city in the province of Pontevedra, in Galicia in north-west Spain; its objective was to promote the use of GNU/Linux and free software in general, while offering a meeting point for all enthusiasts for this software. Today, 10 years later, to commemorate that day, we are releasing the latest version of our 'distro' GALPon MiniNo v_2.0 aka 'Ártabros' and we are launching this new website which we hope will be more user friendly than the earlier one.

Subject: The Legacy of Linus Torvalds: Linux, Git, and One Giant Flamethrower
Linus Torvalds created Linux, which now runs vast swathes of the internet, including Google and Facebook. And he invented Git, software that’s now used by developers across the net to build new applications of all kinds. But that’s not all Torvalds has given the internet. He’s also started some serious flame wars. Over the past few years, Torvalds has emerged as one of the most articulate and engaging critics of the technology industry. His funny and plainspoken posts to Google+ routinely generate more comments and attention than most stories on The New York Times — or even Wired.

If you’ve ever attempted to dual-boot BackTrack 5 and Windows by installing the former on partitions that you created manually, you know that the installer will not allow you to install GRUB in the boot partition or any of the partitions used for BackTrack 5. In this article, you’ll see how to install GRUB in the root partition using a backdoor method. It’s a very simple method that does not require manual disk setup for BackTrack 5. Here are the steps involved:

Subject: SharePoint goes cloud first, but will customers follow?
SharePoint 2013 marks the first time Microsoft is leading with cloud, and encouraging customers to move from on-premises to the cloud. With promises of updates every 90 days, the cloud is going to get features, the on-prem folks might have to wait to see for some time. But are core customers ready to move with them?

Subject: How Nintendo DRM trapped $400 of downloaded games on my failing Wii
Downloading Nintendo’s massive, day-one Wii U firmware update took over an hour, but the length of time didn't bother me. I would finally be able to transfer the Virtual Console games I bought for the Wii over to my new Wii U. Then I could finally remove the old console itself from my entertainment center. Unfortunately, my plan failed. Nintendo’s over-zealous DRM scheme, combined with a malfunction in my launch-era Wii hardware, instead trapped my purchases on the Wii. Unless I’m willing to pay Nintendo to help me out, $400 of downloaded games will remain in limbo.

Here’s are words I never thought I’d write: Netflix works on Linux. Not officially, of course: Instead, it relies on sophisticated hacks to the Wine compatibility layer. Still, this could be a very big deal in the open source world, where for years users have vainly pleaded with Netflix for a Linux client, while also trying to implement their own solutions with little success.
