They're *all* social networking parties. In your teens and college, the goal is to get laid.
In your late 20s and early 30s, the idea is really to have a good time - but you're also trying to meet new people, to have more good times, and because honestly - there may be opportunities in the people you meet.
In your late 40s and late 50s, you do it because the clock is ticking - and to keep your circle of friends from dwindling in case you find you need opportunities.
A party is... by definition, social networking. Connecting and exchanging with multiple nodes that are all interconnected. In this case, people.

That sort of party sounds horrible.
Also, I don't remember many of those being organized. MOst people used conferences for that sort of purpose.
Ours were mostly to get drunk and laid. Not a lot of business expansion going on
Mon Nov 15 2021 11:13:17 AM EST from IGnatius T FoobarDon't think "social networking" in terms of what that phrase means on the Internet. In this context, it means a bunch of people going to a party to "network" -- as in, mix and mingle, make new business contacts, etc. Sort of like LinkedIn but in person.
Getting laid is business negotiations.

And expansions, in a temporary way.... ( set that up and was waiting for someone to say both, you got 1/2 way there.. :) )

That sounds awful. We have parties to spend time with our favorite people, our family and friends. Maybe we're just boring people. Our bedroom encounters are reliably 100% during times when we are *not* having a party.
They were friends, i dont mean random strangers.. ( not family tho )

I don't know which sort of parties are you guys having.
When youngsters want to get laid they just get drunk on the streets and end up boinking in the light of some lamp post. Formal parties seem to be built for something else.
Where you you live that teens are fucking on the street corners?!?

(But it would be pretty funny if the whole thing was a ruse and darknetuser was actually connecting in from New Jersey or something)
Not around these parts either, unless you count them hooking up on the sidewalks downtown ( gatherings on weekend evenings ) and heading to their cars.. which might be on the street.. or a local parking lot. Or at least that is how it worked in the 80s..
I wouldn't know anything about that, of course.
Even better would be a low profile Midwest town that no one has ever heard of..

A very dark place. A place that is going down the drain faster than you can imagine.
With Covid restrictions we don't even have people boinking in the streets like they used to, so we even lost that part of our cultural identity :(

I like that this is at least the second time you've been hit with that joke. I can't remember the context now, but earlier I had guessed you must live in Chicago.
So you can see what opinions Americans have of other states in the Union.

I am fairly certain that darknetuser lives outside of the United States, in a place where censorship is high and free speech is dangerous. But that also could describe a lot of places in the US as well these days :(
