That claim is mostly wrong. Kidney stones can dissolve depending on their type, and they don’t just grow endlessly. Some stones break apart, but not into “sharper pieces” as a rule. The real issue is that when a stone moves through the ureter, even small fragments can cause intense pain.
Shit - in any case, this reminded me that I may have huge and terrible suffering ahead in my life, in addition to whatever OTHER misery the future might have planned for me.
