Well, the cat is back that i have talked about before, not the one with the bad neck/foot, but the one where i tracked down the owner. Saw him under my bush outside the computer room just now. He used to spend his days there in the shade napping.
I'm happy to see he is ok, but i'm not happy to see hes back outside. Especially since we have heat indexes in the 100s again.
I told her a feeding machine is worth 50 bucks and a hen such as her is 5. I think she didn't take the hint.
I had to bolt a sheet of metal to the machine in order to prevent her from spilling all the grain so easily.
Was a great day to take off work and take dogs to the river. 71 .. breezy. lots of clouds. and being a 'work day' hardly any humans there.
Gonna miss going there in a year or 2 :(
She was just thinking of the community.

So talked to the owner today. Seems its not intentional, and he escaped. Even asked for help to round him up and get him back inside where he is safe.

If I find out who did this to him I'm going to return fire with a much larger round. People who deliberately abuse animals are the lowest form of scumbag life on the planet.
How about making it permanent?

They should have their assets seized to fund animal care, and be used for feed. Or at least fertilizer.

We didn't choose for our boys to be indoor/outdoor cats. Both of them pretty much demanded it.
The older one got to a certain age and then began going crazy. When he started getting outdoor time he calmed right down. He's now 11 and he seems to have a good sense of safety.
The younger one is a former stray, or maybe he was abandoned because he's just so goshdarn sweet, but he also does much better when he has some outside time. He also does a good job keeping safe when no one is shooting at him. This isn't that kind of neighborhood. And as soon as I run over the perp with my truck it will continue to not be that kind of neighborhood.
We also had a third cat, who never went outside despite having access to the outside. One night she decided to go explore and got eaten by a fox. Dummy.
Due to safety, i don't give them the option to go wander. Unless they are willing not to leave the privacy fenced yard, they dont get to go out.
I did that when i was a child. He got hurt ( but after surgery did survive ). Never again.
He's getting hardware. The two of us will be a matched pair. And the bill will be eye watering.
On the good side, I met about half a dozen people there who want to ride with me for revenge if we ever figure out who shot my baby.
Not saying its good, but it could have been a lot worse for him.

* The round wasn't a BB, it was a .22 pellet.
* My vet, who is now fired, should have taken one look at the X-ray image and told me this was a medical emergency and I should go straight to an animal hospital.
He and I are a matched pair now. Each of us has a plate and screws.
And if I ever find out who did this to him, I'm going to make them pay my $10K vet bill, and *then* run them over with my truck.

Holy shit, that is worthy of a kickstarter, not my theoretical new computer.
Sometimes i think vet bills are more than human, forgetting insurance coverage.. Tho in most areas pet insurance IS an option.
And it seems that pet drugs are higher ( again, forgetting reduction due to insurance coverage )

Here I can have a horse transported to the other side of the country for speciallized surgery in a 5 Star center for a fraction of the cost it would take you to get a knee prothesics. There is also semi-socialized pet healthcare but the service is kind of meh.
I have looked into pet health insurance but it just makes more sense for me to put my money in an investment fund and keep it for the horses. Horse health insurance here typiclaly does not cover your horse past 19 years old and the ones that would benefit from insurance are disqualified from the get go anyway.
I have my insurance policy for myself, though, which is definitively a luxury around these parts... just not willing to let myself be killed by Social Security healthcare services.
"Hey, that mare over there is gorgeous."
How do you ruin any chances of selling me anything afterwards? When you hear she is 26 years old, you follow up:
"She is nearly done, then. You should sell her before she dies here, you know. You could get about <4,000 USD> for her from the slaughterhouse."
Seriously, people needs to learn to stick their tongues to their own ass.
