Honestly, either.
Tho i lived in Chicago suburbs while in college and it was not bad then, ( born there too but grew up elsewhere ), id never go back as its a cesspool now. I have yet to visit NYC, but i think the time to do that has long since past.

For a big city, and a very liberal one, Chicago isn't a bad "world city" to visit as a tourist. In fact, even the homeless there are pretty damn chill.
Try L.A. or San Francisco. S.F. makes the folks in Manhattan look like friendly Midwesterners. L.A is OK, as long as you're wealthy and around other wealthy people.

My fault, i mixed them both into one thread. ( sort of intentionally actually )

Thought we were talking about the pizza. But "deep dish" isn't pizza...
Both Innsbruck in Austria and the Azores airport are like that.
Mon May 10 2021 16:56:40 EDT from Nurb432I'm not a fan of flying.
Well that isn't accurate, its not the actual flight, its that i'm not a fan of the hassles that go around it . Back when we had a company plane, it was cool. Park in the lot, walk out to the plane on the tarmac, and if someone is around, they slide the stairs up to the plane. hop in, toss your bags in the back and go.
I doubt even tiny country airports get to do that now.
Rutland, VT airport is *almost* like that. You still have to go through TSA screening, but once you do that, you walk out onto a tiny tarmac and take the stairs up to the one and only plane that's sitting at the airport...
I'd imagine that prior to 9/11 there was much less security.
Yeah, at Rutland it's tiny. There's like a small room with one metal detector and one or two security guys. There is still a "secure area" that's partioned off, but, again, all very small
CAK is something like that. Very casual and easy to navigate.
Long Beach and Reno-Tahoe International are also pretty old school.
SMF is somewhere in between. Kind of like Sacramento itself.
Off the top of my head, - Reno Tahoe is the most recent addition to my travelog. In addition to those above...
I've been through Denver (several times), O'Hare (several times), Atlanta (several times), Philly (twice), Barcelona, Madrid, Heathrow (several times), Tokyo, North Carolina (several times), Puerto Rico, Hamburg, John Wayne (several times), Boston, San Jose, SFO (several times) Phoenix-Mesa Gateway, LAX (several times) - I live with Sky Harbor and end up there all the time... Probably at least a couple I've forgotten... I may have... yeah, I think I've flown into and out of CLE, too. Actually, positive.
SFO and Heathrow are probably the worst.
And I *hate* flying. Well, I hate take off and landing - and occasionally I've had anxiety attacks during the in between part, too.
i hate the hassles.. not the actual act.

I'm not sure I hate it, honestly.
I actually love the take off, and the landing... at least, I'm the kind of guy who stares out the window in amazement.
The in between sucks in coach. It is *much* better in business class. But even up there, an 8 hour flight is a long time to be stuck in a seat.
Um... I dislike... a lot... the scary parts.

My best flights were in a small private commuter prop when i worked for GM.Held perhaps 10 seats at the most, with the back couple full of baggage. Small self-service airport in a small town. Get there after dusk, pilot has a key, goes in turns on the lights and brings the plane around. Two of us grab the stairs and shove it up to the plane. Everyone drags their stuff out on the tarmac to toss in the back of the plane themselves. Hop in.. go. Same sort of affair on the other side.
Only thing you have to watch is the noise in those things. Be sure to take earphones/headphones. Learned that one on the first trip. ( that and your ears pop the entire way, since on our trips we never did really level off long enough for the pressure to stabilize )
I stopped flying before TSA as it was already starting to become a hassle in the terminals. I cant imagine what its like now. Today ill pay more, and take longer, just to drive. And if i cant drive, i dont go.
Commuters and light engine aircraft are almost as bad as automobiles with fatalities per mile. The odds shift significantly between commercial airliners and regional commuters and private aircraft.

A couple of times I've had experiences that make me wonder if in an infinite multiverse, if when you die in one reality your consciousness switches with a little hiccup to an alternate one.
Thu Jan 13 2022 13:29:28 EST from Nurb432All i can say is it was a much better experience, and i didnt die.
Or, did i?
Like my dream or awake question a couple of weeks ago :)

I tell people all the time... just don't drop the LSD... it changes the entire way you view existentialism.
Not all people who get this are acidheads... but I think all acidheads get this.
