Naah, it's just tongue in cheek, they've had it for a while. Dunno if it works without a lot of manual configuration though.

IG, have you tried any Java yet on Windows Subsystem for Linux?

This discussion got me curious, so I updated my Win10 to the latest build and installed WSL. Poked around. There is a /dev/lxss which is undocumented, but a google search turns up some code that seems to be intended to use /dev/lxss to call out to the Window kernel and ask it to run normal Windows binaries.

I did, and it didn't really work all that well. Linux is better than Windows at being able to say "use *this* Java for *this* application" so I was hoping to keep a couple of different trees around like I do on my Linux desktop.
The java interpreter starts up, but it doesn't run enough to open a GUI application (even though I have a working X server).

Yeah, I haven't tried -Xint yet, but I'm hearing that doesn't work either. Possibly there is some problem with kernel not quite implementing the right mmap() sematics. I'm reading that things work better in the 16-Aug Insider Preview build, but I'm not willing to risk my main desktop on that.

I mean, that machine is important; I use it to play Doom and Witcher 3.

VMware Workstation for Linux doesn't work either. I haven't tried WINE yet.

I'm really surprised that Richard Stallman hasn't started shooting off his mouth yet, insisting that we call it "GNU/Windows."

Standing within olfactory range of Richard Stallman is the equivalent of being gassed anyway. And you won't be able to get away fast enough because Stallman says you can't use Uber or Amtrak.

Do you know he actually smells bad or are you assuming so because he is a dirty hippie?  Why doesn't he like Amtrak?  Isn't it government transportation?

Isn't he a vegetarian?  So he is just eating tofu.

I think it is odd he wears the same shirt in every related video on the right side.

I wonder if he washes that shirt between videos. Or maybe he just keeps only one thing in his wardrobe, like The Steve Jobs used to do with the black turtlenecks.

Microsoft has decided that cancer is now a software problem.  They have announced that they will cure cancer within 10 years by reprogramming cancer cells.

This doesn't even sound like modern Microsoft.  It sounds like Bill Hitler Hitler Hitler Hitler Hitler Gates with his god complex.  Or maybe Ballmer with his "Linux is a cancer" and they're going to "solve" it by replacing it with Windows.

The hubris, the arrogance, the sheer audacity of this announcement is reprehensible.  I am outraged and demand that Microsoft be shut down for even suggesting it.

Hmm.  I really liked both of the Motorola phones I've owned (a StarTAC and a RAZR).
