While i know its not 'officially supported' like i2p is, it seems to be normal via TOR again.

( you could easily add a proxy site on the TOR network, and then not require an out-port to get here. just a thought )

Welcome to where time stands still, no one leaves and no one will.

Welcome to The Sanitarium.

That was my Citadel. It was a 916 BBS. It had a huge 140MB ESDI HD with Warez for every major platform in the private rooms. It was, at that time, one of the biggest Citadel BBSes on the West Coast as far as storage is concerned.

I was the Sysop.

I guess I did go off to college - still gone, as far as THAT is concerned. :D

Sun Dec 28 2025 12:18:04 UTC from PanaSonic

As far as the Citadel history goes, I was a member of the Kalamazoo, Michigan Citadel group, where we typically had anywhere from 4-8 boards up and running in the area, but other than a half assed attempt I made at writing one for Commodore machines, no one ever wrote one or significantly altered one.  We were active on the national network, to some degree, at least Arcadia and The Beach were... there was also a very heavily Christian themed one that I can't remember the name of anymore.  Those were the fixtures that didn't go away, the others were always up and down.  First BBS I ever called was a Citadel, and for some reason, it's name is escaping me.  I just remember it's intro message was the opening verse to Metallica's Welcome Home (Sanitarium) .. SysOp went off to college a year or two later, never heard from him again

ANyway... enough history, I suppose.

I'd like to say I think this explains a lot of why you lean Left. It isn't the political ideology of optimism. It tends towards a "glass half empty," outlook on most issues.

Sun Dec 28 2025 14:45:57 UTC from Nurb432

Unless something drastic changes our course, I believe that 2026 will make 2025 look like a cakewalk, as 2025 made 2024 look.. and so on.  I hope i am not proven wrong. The collapse is overdue.

I wouldn't say he leans left, he's just kind of multidimensionally deluded.
To that I can only say, find something that makes you happy and pursue it!

The "glass analogy" doesn't really map to politics, unless you do something like:
Optimist: "The glass is half full."
Pessimist: "The glass is half empty."
Leftist: "The glass is racist and causes global warming."

Happy Caturday everyone!

I stand corrected:   "Unless you are sitting on the moon in a vacuum or something, the glass is never actually empty. Its always full."

( which i guess does make sense, if one wants to be technically accurate.. )

<shrug> someone once said "opinions are like a*eholes (thats an arr 'r' i just censored for some reason :/ :) ) - everyone's got one"

I sometimes tell people, words to the effect, that i lean left, but i lean right and fall over on rare occasions too: but i am a 'loony lefty' for sure. I come from a place which has a King, a Royal family with castles and palaces and aristocratic families that have even bigger castles and estates with palaces that have been handed down for hundreds of years. Yet some of them lean left too. Yet from this ancient kingdom who unlike all our near neighbors have not been invaded for near one thousand years, and even then the invaders were subsumed into the local population which basically has been unchanged in culture since just after the time when we were a Roman Province: 'socialism' is not a dirty word ( i refuse to edit that 's' word ), even while we lock up in dungeons anyone who identifies as a C*mmunist (i am not thankfully).

When i am sober i realize i am a middle-man, a middle-ist. Society and civilization is built on the 'commons'. Common sense, common kindness, and common wealth. Wherever we live in this world, even if we are a Walden walking out into the woods to live in isolation from the world, we are part of a community, we live in common with all others, whether a family, circle of friends, work colleagues, village/town, suburb/city or region/nation.

The juggernaut of civilization has but one stop, it's terminus is known as Humanity. Whether the driver is Lord Krishna, Gautama Sidarta, Moses, Jesus or Mohamed (or maybe your old school teacher or your mum (mom) or dad (pop)) . When in between stops it is at full speed, up and down hill and round tight corners, some lean right, wooah, some lean left, wooah. As the Venerable William Hick once taught us:

"It's only a ride! It's only a ride!"

Happy New Year!

btw Art i sent you mail, some funny things goes on since i last logged in. :)

The problem is, your side of the pond, thinks that our Left is Center Right - and our side of the pond thinks your Right is Center Left - and both sides are right.

Right now, there is a rising rejection of the Left going on in Europe - lots of Europeans are fed up. The first sign should be that not just "some" of your aristocracy leans Left - but that MOST of them do. Your monarchs and prime ministers and mayors of major world cities don't lean socialist Left because it is in the best interests of the *citizens* of your nation.

In the UK, there is a teacher sitting in jail, indefinitely - presumably for "contempt of court." The contempt he is displaying is refusing to use Preferred Pronouns with a gender confused student.

In Germany, holocaust denial can get you thrown in prison.

I do not support holocaust denial any more than I support flat earth ideology - but I certainly support your right to be publicly stupid enough to support either.  Another non-US politician (Canadian, I think,) suggested that Freedom of Speech must be sacrificed for the sake of a multi-cultural society. Those are "Thems What the 2nd Amendment is For," words. Bring it. Come and find out what the largest civilian army in the world thinks about limiting freedom of speech.

I know that kind of talk really upsets a lot of Europeans. They think we're crazy, trigger happy, blood thirsty cowboys just looking for a reason to use all our scary weapons.

That is exactly how the founding fathers WANTED them to feel about the United States and her citizens.

In all seriousness i hope someone changes the subject, i know you guys mean no harm, and this is a private group ( well sorta ) but there are things in this world you cannot talk lightly of, especially if you are stone cold sober.

I get it, and if there are *reasonable* lines that cannot be crossed I want those to be respected. That having been said, when I go full hyperbole mode it's usually intended to call out a semantic collapse that has already happened.
For example, there are literally people equating the act of using the middle mouse button to paste with the act of killing millions of people. Both are "fascist" and I'm not even exaggerating. This is the kind of semantic collapse pushed by overprivileged, isolated people who have no clue how the world works.
And this must be toppled -- sometimes by exaggerating their model so hard that it makes the flaw obvious.

So yes, if something hits a raw nerve, by all means call it out. At the same time, understand that hyperbole is my native language so I will often point out the absurdity of something by extrapolating it to the point of ridiculousness.

And keep being awesome.

Collapsniks have been saying that for half a century. The downfall of

civilization is perpetually in a state of "almost there", just like the

exhaustion of oil reserves or the melting of the polar ice caps or a

version of Windows that actually works properly.

Instead of looking for doom, look for joy. Either way you're going to

find what you're looking for.

I don't think people knows what a system collapse looks like. In the West, it is unlikely to be an event you can point at on a calendar, and say "this is the day shit hit the fan".

The decline of the West is something gradual. I told my friends semi-stable countries don't collapse all of a sudden. The way it works is 20 years from now they will be eating roasted rats and telling each other "Do you remember when cabagge was affordable? Ah, those were the times!"

Things have been going for the worst around here for *decades* already and there is no sign it is going any better anytime soon. Nobody *wants* to fix crap either. I don't know about the US, but I think acknowledging things is important.

For good or bad I already have a plan going on. I don't really care much if the country goes to shit as long as I can bug in in my little corner of the world.

Pretty much this. I think a lot of people is conditioned by what society expects from them and lock themselves away of that they truly want.

Yeah society expects you to be married and have two sons and a stable job by the time you are 30. Is that what you really want? Because a lot of people chase that goal and when they get it they realize that is now what they wanted, just what other people told them they were supposed to accomplish.

Meanwhile I was driving from $job back home, and found a mare in the valley had a new foal. I stopped the van by their field and she trotted towards me because she recognized me, and introduced the foal to me. That made me the most happy dude in the valley for those 10 minutes.
