Sorry to hear about your friend. May his memory be a blessing.

Thanks, buddy.

It has been a bit weird to pass the Christmas and see his favorite spot in front of the fireplace empty.

So, my father's family prety much proved they hate us this Christmas. This is something I have always known but it vindicates my stance of having nothing to do with that people.

This year I had no desire whatsoever to deal with that people on CHristmas so I invented a bullshit excuse (which was actually quite plausible) not to go and let my parents go alone to the Christmas family meeting.

End result? During the family meeting they shared gifts away but my part of the family got nothing at all. Then on Christmas lunch my parents had to eat from disposable plastic plates (as opposed to regular ceramic plates). It is a humilliation ritual for my father at this point, he should man up and drop them for good.

I mean, I think I have often mentioned my relationship with my mother is a bit strained because she expects "more" from me, but at least she loves me and does stuff for me. If a truck ran my father over I think my grandmother would not give a damn.

Also, Mary Christmas to everybody.

Sorry that your family sucks.  It can be rough.

Not to turn this into a comedy, but one of the daughters loves to have white elephant give away today.    Years ago i 3D printed an actual elephant so it was 'real'.  I printed it in black.   lol.

All other thing aside - a merry Christmas to the denizens of Uncensored.
Though I may not agree with you (any of you, on everything) - may your 2026 be blessed.

Too bad it wasn't me, i know what id be doing with it.  ( tho one has to play to win and i dont, but still id have plans for that sort of $ )

Watch or read Life of Pi.

There are two stories - one that is realistic, and one that is fantastic. Which one do you want to believe is true?

As far as the Citadel history goes, I was a member of the Kalamazoo, Michigan Citadel group, where we typically had anywhere from 4-8 boards up and running in the area, but other than a half assed attempt I made at writing one for Commodore machines, no one ever wrote one or significantly altered one.  We were active on the national network, to some degree, at least Arcadia and The Beach were... there was also a very heavily Christian themed one that I can't remember the name of anymore.  Those were the fixtures that didn't go away, the others were always up and down.  First BBS I ever called was a Citadel, and for some reason, it's name is escaping me.  I just remember it's intro message was the opening verse to Metallica's Welcome Home (Sanitarium) .. SysOp went off to college a year or two later, never heard from him again

ANyway... enough history, I suppose.

Enough ancient history of things we all have vaguely shared but not really. :-D

If/When my employer gets their hiring stuff together (they were supposed to convert me from contract to employee end of the year, but the paperwork took them into their holiday break time, so... here i am .. not employed until they come back...) I'm strongly thinking about ordering up one of the new Commodore machines, not sure what i'll do with it, but I want one lol.  And I kind of want to put my Citadel out there so at least my old Citadel friends from the BBS era can come by and visit, rather than just using it as an email server for myself.

I do need to figure out how to properly set up external mail and calendar and other clients to talk to it, though.  I'm guessing this probably involves certificates and other annoyances.

oh, yes, i was also thinking about finding out if the email and calendar and other services are compatible with the old webOS system, and if so, opening it up to users of that old system.  Just call me one of those guys that always attaches to the dying then dead technologically superior but commercially failed systems... amiga... os/2... webos... wonder what's next....

Sure, that's totally worth doing. And if you decide not to, just bring them here.

It's not as easy as it was 20 years ago, but it's totally doable, and getting better all the time. Plus, I can walk you through it if you get stuck or have questions. We're all in this together!

Collapsniks have been saying that for half a century. The downfall of civilization is perpetually in a state of "almost there", just like the exhaustion of oil reserves or the melting of the polar ice caps or a version of Windows that actually works properly.

Instead of looking for doom, look for joy. Either way you're going to find what you're looking for.

Yes, it has been in the works for a long time moving right along on schedule, but its accelerated the last couple for years, and i think the time is 'here'. It is the natural order of things.

Joy? what is that.  not part of my vocabulary.

It's easy to be a pessimist, then when the worst doesn't happen, derive some joy from it. :-)

And you all can have my share of joy.  There is a reason that Wednesday was my idol growing up, tho admittedly i went darker, but still same concept.
