having worked at a company that also had a wap interface, i'd say no.
However, modern webaware html intrefaces don't get much more information on the screen,
In the last "tablet aware" version of the software, the listview screen would fit 9 contacts at the same time.
yes instead of wap!! \o/
I got an account on sdf.org and they run a gopher server for all their members ( i got one with a few bits on it), also they have alot of gopher blogs/phlogs on there.
It's a nice idea i think, you can use firefox with a plugin and text web browsers like lynx have native support (some other GUI browsers do too), and thats where it shines.
Gopher on a smartphone looks Nice!! :P http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2010/07/overbite-project-brings-gopher-protocol-to-android/
I gotta get an android phone :(
... if you have the firefox (or seamonkey) web browser go to: Tools>Add-ons type in"overbite" into the search window on the top right and install the add-on.
This should take a matter of seconds to accomplish! Enjoy! :)
(untill very recently most browsers, including firefox, still supported the gopher protocol natively)
Here are some current gopher servers around the world:
gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/new via the gopher protocol (use a gopher client or web browser plugin *see link at very end)
http://gopher.floodgap.com/gopher/gw?gopher/1/new via a http proxy (no need to install a gopher plugin)
(* http proxy: - http://gopher.floodgap.com/overbite/ or natively: gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/overbite/ :)
have a look at the screenshots on mobile devices(android Ios has a client too etc):
http://gopher.floodgap.com/overbite/sc?android
and best of all, for a text only document retreaval system, the screenshots look better than over http:
gopher://gopher.floodgap.com/1/overbite/ss
I like gopher :P
those links do not work when clicked in my browser, but if you copy paste they do. Sorry if this is the case for you guys?
(i was using two browsers one with native gopher support (firefox-with overbite plugin) and one without to render http pages)
Just installed Overbite on the phone. Thanks Mo. I remember installing gopher from official floppies when my wife attended the U of Minnesota. Strange how quickly that stuff was replaced. I thought most info on gopher was quite well organized (probably by librarians instead of comp sci guys) :-)
No, not at all disturbing.

Gopher was useful for the same reason the Web was more useful when it was ugly.
The message is the medium. Everything else is dross.
That reminds me of another information system some of us are familiar with...
I don't know anout that IG , but i'm in love m8! That's a damn pretty cow there! Lol
What's the other information system? Citadel? :)
Q: How many Gopher users does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Both of them.
Due to some significant storm activity in Indiana, while I was on vacation at Lake Placid, NY, it seems that there was some corruption of my citadel, such that every time a connection established, the citserver would crash.
I've restored it to the backup from the night prior to the outage as well as replacing some hardware in my office to get everything back online.
Hello,
I got this in the Aide> room this morning:
2015-12-02 03:00 from Citadel
Subject: User Purge Message
The following users have been auto-purged:
SYS_Citadel
Strangely, I have the system set to default user auto-purge to 0 days, which should disable that. I have never modified the SYS_Citadel user. Any idea why this happened? Is it harmful?
Thanks,
John
