Sure, they will get sued and eventually shut down like last time, but during the potential decades long process i suspect they will let the law stand "for safety".   Then when it is eventually struck down, they will just do it again, and again, a 'virtual' win, for them. 

Its also a gamble that perhaps in 20 years during its 2nd or 3rd trip to SCOTUS, there will be new judges and they hope even less supportive of rights than they are now. But since they have unlimited funds, they have nothing to lose anyway.

No. On this issue, preach, brother!  The first thing they did was encode the inalienable right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

I disagree. There are points where the Right goes - "OhmyGod. This is what we mean. We don't want to see anyone celebrate this, We don't want to leverage this to promote our agenda."

And I feel like Kirk solidified this in a LOT of America's zeitgeist. I guess we'll see in the midterms - but I think the Kirk assassination sent a lot of the American politic - especially younger males - HARD right. Harder right than I am. Than Ig is. 
We'll see. But I think the Left radicalized a lot of young (white) males hard Christian Right.

Pretty sure RepRap has been doing that since the early days of the 3d printer craze.

I have printed 'extrusions' for another project that didn't really need aluminum. ( a pseudo rack mount thing )

While it is possible, i'd not suggest it for the frame of a printer however.  Between heat and stress, even with some inserted steel pins or something, i can't see them holding up for long and i don't think it would be rigid enough to produce accurate prints..  And real extrusions are everywhere.. even amazon sells them.

There are already a few that do 'phone home' and prevents you from printing 'bad things'.  So they do exist...  But yes, easy to get around or just build your own.  I know someone who built his own from scratch at least 10 years ago.  Pretty cool machine too..

I have an impopular opinion here, but I think that the people contributing money and resources should be the people deciding how those are used. 

At 18 you can enter a contract.  You can be tried as an adult if you commit a crime.   But, you cant drink. ( for example )

The interpretation of "qualifiers" in this context are not relevant, only the founders intent. But, regardless it clearly states that the law of the land is not to infringe. Not under certain circumstances, or other vague things, its absolute in its wording, for a reason.  The ATF was created with the sole purpose to enforce unconstitutional laws, and enact its own unconstitutional rules along the way as 'interpretation' of said unconstitutional law. Our founders would be appealed and ashamed. 

( at the time they were also racist unconstitutional laws, which is doubly wrong, but that is old news as like with all draconian rules, its expanded well beyond that original intent and is used to attack all citizens )

Its just an regional appellate court so i'm sure it will end up with SCOTUS eventually but seems they finally struck down that rule about requiring you to be 21 to purchase a gun. 18 is an adult. Arbitrarily restricting adults contitnual rights is wrong. Either remove those restrictions, or raise the age of adulthood to 21.  Else its a legal contradiction and needs to be gone.

Next, should strike down alcohol rules too, but the risk there is the entire 21st amendment might get overturned, and we end up with prohibition again. So we had another shooting here in the states by a child. Of course not condoning what the child did, but they just charged his father with murder as "he allowed access to weapons". While i have not looked into details ( i wont ) this is over the line and just anti-2A.

Sure, a parent is responsible financially for things their under-aged children do. But unless the kid came to him "im going to go kill people with that rifle" and he did nothing about it, the worst that can be said is negligence, and only if he knew the kid was unstable. Like it or not, children do take actions on their own. 

Would not be any different if a kid broke into a house with a hammer from the dads garage.  Father should not be charged with breaking and entering. ( but would have to pay the bill ). Or assault if he beat the people living in there with the hammer. ( be liable for the medical expenses )

Or, kid took car keys and ran someone over, without prior statements of ' i want to go run people down'.  Same thing. Only thing that MIGHT be is negligence if everyone knew the kid was not 'right', and that is pretty hard to prove.

Too long in the 'usability' standpoint, not a legal issue.   Tho i did tell it before, so sorry for a repeat: 

I had an extra lower that needed a purpose that i had forgot about. Ran across it during some of the cleaning i was doing.  I had a 9mm AR rifle and 9mm pistol. And a 223 pistol. Was wanting 223 rifle to match out the set.  Put it on the back burner, "ill do it later, no rush "  A week or so later happened to see some scratch/dent complete upper+barrel kits on sale online.  Jumped and bought it.  Turns out i cant read, or hit the wrong button, but instead of a 16 like i thought i got, it was a 10..  Sure i could have just got another barrel but the upper was still short enough that i really should replace that too.  But honestly didn't want to futz with starting over, in effect.

My 2 AR pistols are like in the 4" range. ( the 223 even has a short buffer tube. 2" if i remember right., and a special bolt to handle that ) They work fine with a brace. But 10, is long enough for me that the balance is wrong and takes both hands and is awkward.  But, as an SBR with a real stock, it would be fine as its not too short to be off balance there.

Oh and yes i know an arm brace does not act like a bump stock ( even if they could "increase rate of fire to millions per second!" ). which is part of my point, she has no clue what shes talking about.

And i'm still debating on registering this stupid thing as an SBR, its really too long for a brace and still be practical, since i cant read ( previous post, ordered wrong barrel ). And too short for a stock ( without the tax ).   I have others, but this one needs to be broken in.  Sort of wish i got in on the 'free tax stamp day' during the brace fiasco this spring.  Its not like they don't already know what we have, so now its most a cost/hassle concern. 

I think in her honor i should go take a 'large capacity' magazine with a 'scary black rifle", with an "evil arm brace" that lets you fire millions or rounds a second, or something, and throw small pieces of copper coated earth killing lead down wind, at some "white trash play zone". 

Most of that side of the fence operates that way really. They just happen to have a TV show.

Bump stocks are a bad idea, just legalize full auto.  No one should be prohibited from carrying any weapon they want.  If I want a turret on the back of my truck that can wipe out an entire army of invaders in under a minute, I am guaranteed that by the Constitution.  Anyone who is against that IS THE ARMY OF INVADERS and deserves to be shot hundreds of times.

It wont last long. Now that SCOTUS told congress "well, just make a law" its just a matter of time.   It also means states that have banned them explicitly, they stand.  

They could have said "banning bump stocks is unconstitutional" but they didn't.  And I know why they did what they did ( staying in their lane and sticking with a ruling on the case in front of them, to avoid issues down the road ) but unfortunately it set things up for a lot of future restrictions.  "Fine, we will get congress to do it"

Same issue with a lot of other executive branch over-reach. Just says "go get it in law, then you are good". Sure, may get struck down eventually on real grounds, but most laws 'stick' until then.. decades..

However, its locked.  Not out of 'theft' concern as they can carry it away and cut it open, but if we get hit with a tornado or something, or having to grab it in a bug-out situation, i dont want it to fly open by accident.    But, since keys can be lost in the heat of the moment making it a pain to get open later, the key is IN the thing.  Just turned to locked position.  ( really miss having a safety box at the bank... )

I have heard there are fixes for the recent gun safe issue. However, you have to trust your locksmith  ( or learn how to do it yourself )

As for safes, there are basically three things against which you would protect your belongings by storing them in one:

1. Fire
2. Theft
3. Tampering

Guns are stored in safes primarily to protect them from tampering.  Responsible gun owners do not want stray hands touching their firearms while unattended.  (Insert your favorite anti-2A corollary here.)  A strong metallic closet with a halfway decent lock is fine here unless you have an unusually valuable collection.

"Gun safes" are, obviously, no longer considered trustworthy now that we know that the manufacturer will give a working combination to the gestapo simply for the asking.

In my home, documents that are valuable to us (and no one else) are kept in a fireproof, but unlocked, metal box.  We keep less than USD$200 cash in the house and we don't really have any super-valuable items in the house, for example neither my wife nor my daughter have a lot of expensive jewelry.  You wanna take my laptop?  Fine, it's 12 years old and the size and weight of a paver stone.  Take what you want and get out.

Was just trying to say that in this country it does not apply to criminals here illegally.  It applies to our citizens, even ones that came here legally. But these people, no it does not apply to them. Nor do most other rights.

Exactly. The "gun safes" they sell in the US are jokes. I've heard there's a market for used "true safes", like those used by banks or jewelry stores, but they're usually too small to store a rifle.

In my world, if the chamber is still empty its not really loaded.  Now that said, the rifles i would use, do have several full magazines in their bag. But none in the rifle, and nothing in the chamber. Not out of some sort of 'being prepared', its mostly as im lazy so if i go to range, i shoot the magazines i take, then go home. Not going to stand around loading them at the range like some people do. So might as well pre-load them is all.

As far as location. Other than one rifle, and my daily carry, mine are safely 'stored away' in a closet, in bags or cases. We have no children here, so that is more than safe enough. The house is rarely left empty for more than a couple of hours. And we have dogs. If laws ever change and demand 'safes' even for child-less homes, then i guess ill put non-essentials in a locked safe, but i refuse to put my daily carry sidearm in there.  "Hang on mr burgler, let me go get my stuff.. " While it would be illegal at that point, id rather have to deal with court than the coroner.

lol i repeated the better than kevlar. sorry. doing too many things at once, and frustrated with this dumbass mac sitting beside me. .  

UHMWPE is a plastic base, modern stuff related to HDPE plastics, and according to what i read, is actually a little better than Kevlar, but a lot cheaper.  A bit more than steel, but not into the stupid price of some of the more 'esoteric' materials that are used.  A bit better than the old stanby of woven kevlar too.

And only weighs about 1.3 pound a plate. At least for the 8x10 plates i need. No worse than a heavy winter coat.

Sure its a trade-off, but realistically the plastic will work up to semi close range high power 44 magnums.  Most crooks are not even carrying those things. 

UHMWPE is sooooo much lighter than steel.. 

Sure, not as 'strong' but figured if im in that much trouble, its academic anyway..   and dragging around 10+ pounds of solid steel on your chest and back, isn't overly practical. 

Now.. what do i do with the steel plates? Targets? 

I know i do. I would assume at least one from there would be around here, somewhere.

Red dot goes well with pistols and handguns i think. Quick and easy. Not as accurate, but its a pistol after all.  Had a real scope on a Ruger MarkII competition model. I felt it was pretty useless.

So i received a red dot scope as a gift.  Not thing drastic and i have others too. But this came in a little reusable plastic box with 'real' hinges and a latch.

I have never removed a scope from a gun to 'store' it... am i special?

People always complaining their guns are so heavy. You should hold mine. If you hit somebody with it using it as a stone it will be more effective than if you actually tried to use it as a gun, but for you to use it as a blunt weapon you would have to grab it with both hands or something.

Since im going to be registering one of my ARs as a SBR, going to end-up taking the upper off once i file paperwork ( not that its breaking any rules, it has no stock, but figured id go overboard ).  Been calling it my 'tactical club'

Any opinions on those 556 to .22 conversion kits?  With ammo as high as it is, and going up another 10% next month, was thinking of getting one of those ( err, a friend was.. )  so i can take one of the 556 ARs and not go broke at the range.

But, dont know anyone with one, and blowing $250 just to find its worthless, i hate to do.  No, i wont go hungry but i hate to waste that sort of cash too. That is a tank a gas.. ( well, slight exaggeration.. slight )  $250 would go a long way for 223/556 ammo instead ( on the serious side )

For me double stack = fat. 

K9 and TCP are single stack.   Longer grip, but less 'width' 

I used to carry a G26, but its so fat ..  Ended up with a Kahr K9. Heavier, but carried better i think..   Then later a TCP as it was even more convenient and less visible. And, i figured if a few 380s to the face cant stop them, i'm screwed anyway.

Was digging in the closet today, one of my flack vests fell out. Like most, it has a Velcro spot on the chest .. had a sudden thought..   ran off and pulled the 'do not pet' sign off my dog's harness.   Fits perfect. lol.

So federal appeals says we dont get to have AR-15s, as they are not covered by the 2nd.   Of course they are ignoring Bruen decision.  SCOTUS has no real teeth to enforce their rulings. One thing the founders didnt think of.

Well I went into my local gun shop and what do you know? All the Liberty safes are on sale, LOL!

My understanding is that state constitutions cannot deny rights enshrined in the US Constitution. And there is nothing in the Constitution that allows RIGHTS to be "suspended".

And as for "curfews", I believe the vast majority of them have been blatantly unconstitutional.

Article 1 Section 9 Clause 2 of the US Constitution says: "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."

A hurricane or any other natural disaster clearly does not fall under "Cases of Rebellion or Invasion".

I didnt mean to say she did, just that the same sort of rules apply for emergency actions, and seems more at a state level than federal. 

Not the first state to do this BTW.  Remember Katrina? There, they forced people to stay in their homes for their safety, and they also collected their guns ( to keep it 2A related ).   There are others, but that comes to mind first.

I wonder what happens if the winner of the election commits suicide just before taking office in January. Does the runner up get the seat? Even if its a different party? Or is it the VP on the winning ticket?  What if they do to?  ( just random thoughts and too lazy to look them up :) )

Even if they were not yet scanning, they require you to fill them out and keep them for at least a decade after you close shop and can be ordered on a case-by-case basis to show them, so the data is there, waiting to be used.  Also, I *think* ( i could be wrong just what i heard, not verified ) you have to turn them in when you close.

But, regardless, you have to keep track, and they can always change the rules later: "New rule, turn in ALL your forms. NOW. And we know who you are." ( since you are registered AND i do believe they keep NICS background check records forever now, as that was determined not to fall under the 'no registry' rule since it does not have make/model/serial )

And dont forget, fees to resister and other rules instantly go into effect, effecting your "place of business"  ( ie your private residence )

Coming new rule announced to mandate universal background checks on nearly every sale as  nearly everyone is now a gun dealer if you sell anything.  Must register as a FFL and any sale you make now has to have a background check. ( and of course, universal record keeping )

About the only exceptions will be hobby relics or to family members. For now. 

Might get struck down, might not. But its coming. 

FRT Ban may be going down in flames.

Federal judge allowed an injunction to stop ATF from enforcement as its an over reach of their jurisdiction  ( only applies to those that filed the case, but its still the right direction )

I guess a federal judge struck down the stupid new receiver rule.  So now we can buy 80% and kits again without going thru an FFL. And 3D printing is back off the soon to be banned list.

I'm sure it will be appealed and end up with scotus, but with how they have been ruling lately, if they even accept the case, they will agree with the original finding.

Newsom's proposed amendment can be done through legislation.  The things he's asking for should be done through legislation.

I can no longer condemn any harm that may come to Gov. Newsom or anyone else stupid enough to support this proposed amendment.

Not technically a win, but a pause for more time to deal with it in the courts isn't a loss either.

So the liberal failure of a mayor in Indy, wants to go against state law, and ban ALL semi-auto rifles within the county ( yes. really.. )..  no concealed carry permitted, recend constitutional carry..

They can come to your house and ask, but you can turn them way ( if they have no warrant ).

I am not sure it was a book from Luty, but he had one in his site with the classical design with the cocacola bottle.

Back when i practiced a lot i was considering getting as suppressor, for my ears.  But, no one else in the place has one either, so I didnt bother with it and just lived with muffs. If i was out in the boonies again and could shoot outside in the back yard again, i would reconsider.

The NFA registry also gives them the right to inspect your stuff at any time they want. ( well registered items anyway ). Mass register ( and future funds ) was the entire point of the pistol brace move, not to really get rid of them.  They figured most people would just resister them, increasing their list. Its why there was the 'free amnesty period'.

Don't hold your breath on the NFA going away. No one in DC wants it gone.  Its a tool to control us. They dont want to lose that.

As far as suppressors, you can still buy them all day long, but i do realize its a bit higher cost than it should be, due to the tax stamp. But it can be done.

I ended up with a couple of ar-15 platforms even tho i prefer AK due to them being more simple and rugged. Reality is ARs are more flexible, and parts far more plentiful, and far more caliber options.  I have not done it yet myself, but temporary 22 conversions are cheap.  And aside from the current brace fiasco, you can still build / buy an AR platform pistol if a rifle is too bulky.

Listen, I've got no problem with the guy taking the initial shots. If he had stood up and walked toward him as he fallen emptying his magazine into the guy, that would have been OK. 

But him taking a few shots, the guy falls, the shooter walks over while the guy is lying prone and motionless, fires a few more rounds into his back, kicks the robber's gun away, takes possession of the gun and then fires two more rounds into the robber's skull - that does NO favors for pro 2A folks.

ATF put out the new rule yesterday.  Must register braces as SBRs.  New rules do not go into effect immediately.  You have 120 days from time of posting to decide if you want to comply or not and keep them attached legally, or not register and get rid of it. ( or of course option 3, flip them the bird, but not the point here )  They are not even being banned, just taxed, just like suppressors, who also people claim often are banned, they are not. ( and in this case you can register for free, if you choose to, as they are waving the tax ).

All over internet: " ATF made millions felons overnight"  "ATF bans braces" Bullshit. These people should lose their right to speech, due to knowingly abusing it.

Not that i agree with ATF of course and they have no constitutional authority to even exist ( and do expect it to be struck down too ), but these people are spreading nonsense to scare people for click bait, and without truth, people cant decide for themselves what they want to do.

If it was me, id stick with common calibers at this point. More chance of them being around, both now and if things fall apart and you have to scrounge.  One reason Germany originally chose the 9mm was so that if their ammo was found on dead soldiers or supply depots seized, it would be harder to 'recycle' in battle.  i could be wrong on that as its just something i heard, but its a valid point to keep in mind.. if all yo have is a 300, and no one around has one, your hardware has become obsolete, basically a metal bat..

For me, main + a backup, might be enough.

Of course all of mine were lost in that terrible boating accident a few years ago, so this is all hypothetical of what i would do..

And ATF is working on compiling records of everyone who bought an AR pistol, to come door to door and verify they are not SBRs after their fake 'amnesty registration period' runs out.

The legal protection is at the federal level, explicitly for gun manufacturers.  At state levels, its mostly left alone, except now NYC where its explicitly allowed to sue 'if anyone in your family got hurt by a gun'. Even encouraged. Sure, if they produce a defective or illegal product, sue. But if your legally produced and sold product is mis-used by your customer, it should be illegal to sue. Any industry. This mall is the center piece of an entire town built from stores and shopping.  I go so far back in time, that i remember them back in the mid to late 80s converting it from a 'plaza' of 4 strip stores on the same property that sort of intersected with 4 independent keystone stores, ( sears, Montgomery ward, Lazarus, and JC Penny ) into an actual covered mall. Biggest in central Indiana. 

My dad owned a store in one of the strips that surrounded it ( auto body shop, not commodity sales ).  Next door was a TV repair shop.. Cousin owned it and a couple more strips around the area..( and others )

Apparently it may be. But courts have upheld its authority. It depends on who you ask on what you get, but this seems the most coherent and non-biased statement i have seen so far.  But even if they are in effect an independent contractor, the treasury does have the authority to enforce tax law, so by default so do their contractors when they act on the behalf of the treasury..

There are some advancements in modern designs of course, but at its core: Boom in a pipe sealed on one end, expels stuff in the other direction..

Its actually quite scary when you start thinking about having a finite effective lifespan.  Not being able to do what you could for decades. I'm just now at that point of looking over my shoulder..   I think injuring my arm ( and hand ) has made it a bit more scary, as i now know what its like to lose a % of your abilities. In a split-second, life changing. Watching my mother deteriorate the last few years only reinforces the concern.

Never been a fan of shoulder holsters.  I tried one, but it takes longer to get to your firearm as you fish for it ( or at least it did for me ).   Plus not practical for summer use around here.  Sure open carry is 100% legal here too, but in this current climate its a hassle, even around here.   Seen a few stores here lately asking you not to open carry.  Means you are technically trespassing if you do. Well if you are in the states, and ever purchased one from a store or online, you best get it out of your gun, destroy it with a big ass hammer, and put the parts in a bag to prove it.  The ATF is coming.  Have it ready for them or you may be going to jail and lose everything. 

Putting aside that the ATF is unconstitutional anyway, binary triggers dont even violate their definitions, and they arbitrarily made this decision. Late this week they started raiding stores, seizing product and more importantly: getting sales records.  Next is to come after the purchasers. 

Unfortunately most of what i have was purchased from a local shop where the owner got ill unexpectedly, and closed up shop about 10 years ago.  So all his records were absorbed by the ATF. The way you fight a culture war is as follows:

You pick a bunch of strategic groups an infiltrate them. I am not talking about big groups such as "Military" or "Moviemaking", but small groups such as "The Local Chess Club". Then, you use those groups for political dealings. "I will support your urbanism plan if you give us a handout for purchasing 200 chess boards."

At some point, the sum of the groups you control is so big that you may start taking bids. You support the party that gives you more of what you want.

The trick is to use, in the begining, groups that are not recognizeable as political entities. Everybody knows chess is apolitic, right? So it is easy to move into a Chess club and overtake it because there won't be resistence. They are not politic so they won't care much if somebody shows up with a don't thread on me shirt. This allows you to bring more of your friends until the Club belongs to you.

Except you should try not to be very obvious

I have a problem with this line of thinking.  Yes, that shit only flies when the sweeping majority of the population tolerates it, and yes it is unfortunate that their majority allows these sorts of government overreaches.  But surely not everyone is willing to tolerate it or supports it.  For those in the minority, what they are experiencing is by definition a violation of their basic human rights.  It's the classic "democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for dinner" quote.  You can't blame the sheep.

I've been looking at CZs on-and-off for several years now.  Surprisingly, none of the ranges around me have one for rent except for one, and it's a tricked out full-size race pistol.  I tried it, and it was alright, but not very representative of what I'm looking for.  I think that this is going to be one that I'll just have to buy to try.

Does anyone here happen to own a CZ 75 P-01?  Could I possibly trouble you to get a ruler and measure the width of the frame for me?  Like maybe across the top of the dust cover with the slide removed?  This is a surprisingly difficult dimension to find.  Most references I've found including CZ's website have the width somewhere around 1.4", and I suspect they're including the grips or the controls at their extremes, which makes that metric not very helpful since those things wouldn't be included in what's shoved down my pants.

Hmm so when they effectively ban braces again next month ( even if it was constitutional their 'rules' are a crock of poo.. Having fired a selective fire rifle more than once,  I would venture to say most would be wasted, especially in the hands of a regular citizen, in a time of stress. Sure its impressive, and intimating, to the untrained to have that much lead coming at you but most of that lead isn't even close.

Advantage to 3D printers is you can build your own from scratch, and control the firmware. And unlike trying to build your own laser printer, its not hard at all. They can try to stop home builds, but as along as you can get replacement parts that are hard to make ( like the hot ends.. ) that will be about impossible to stop. That said, I do see some sort of registration being required when you buy them here soon, as an attempt to come after them. Or buy parts and supplies in the states.  "They are dangerous devices! As far as 3D printing a firearm, a lot depends on which components you print and the plastic you use, the caliber, and functional layout you are targeting ( no pun there.. ).  Tons of plastic framed firearms on the commercial market. i carry a commercial one daily and dont think twice. If i had to print a frame, id not think twice. ( but i have a machine shop in the garage to do the metal bits properly, and today, legally..  Tomorrow, who knows. )

CAD software, i wont be surprised if they try to register them as munitions, and take them of of places like github since it allows sharing to restricted countries. ( as an excuse ). Much like they tried with things like PGP in the beginning. ( i still have a copy of windows 1.0, with an export restriction sticker.  how far we have come.. )

CAD files and books like from Luty or Holmes will get banned here really soon i suspect.  They tried to ban CAD files once before and DO ban some subjects from ever being published.

To be honest i dont care if they know. No crime was committed. They may not 'like' it but its 100% legal. And since i have purchased something from a FFL in the past and a have a permit, i'm on the list anyway.    One 3D printed single shot gun isn't going to phase them.

Besides, as mentioned, its not practical. If i wanted to build something useful, i have a machine shop in the garage. ( also legal )

Otherwise, even if they're bankrupt, New York City's claim on them would follow them around, because they're still a NY company.

Won't the laws of the State they are incorporated in always apply regardless of where they re-locate the HQ?

If they're in Texas, and New York sues them - they can petition to have the litigation take place in Texas. Texas is likely to be more amicable to their position than the New York judicial system, one would assume.

For now.  Depending on how the election goes ( cant believe i'm saying that on December 27th... politics aside, this is nuts ) i suspect they will come back, even more restrictive than before. They want to ban everything, regulation is just a step towards that goal. Clearly unconstitutional, but they rarely get called out by the powers above them so they do whatever the hell they feel like.

I didnt sign the petition out of concern of them watching. Did it require a name and address? If so, i wonder if it was just a fishing expedition of names to go 'visit' next year.
