SOPA means garbage in Swedish…
Posted on January 19, 2012 by janj

Sopa is the Swedish name for garbage or a very underperforming person. I think that summarizes my thought on the SOPA discussion.

Here is great article that is well worth reading:

Can someone please tell me what a "magnet" link is, and what relation it has to UDP bittorrent?

I need to torrent some videos (all properly licensed and legal of course) and the trackers mention this type of arrangement.

What software do I need? (Linux only please -- preferably command line so I can run it in 'screen' on a remote server and detach from it.)

usually magnets go with VUZE/Azureus, iirc.

Yup, that did it. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the Vuze client wants to run on your desktop, so I'm unable to operate it remotely. I would like to figure out a way around that.

I use rtorrent for anything torrent in a screen. Pretty neat thing. You need to configure it to do sessions in the rc. (/home/user/.rtorrent.rc)

It also should be able to deal with magnet links.

Remote is better if you have access to a remote address. That way, when the pigopolists mistake your legitimate downloads for piracy and go to have you shut off, you don't lose your Internet access at home.

Plus, if you work a hosting company, your remote server can have access to beaucoup bandwidth so your downloads hopefully finish a lot quicker. ;)

The so called "BUCKETS of bandwidth" approach.

It's not the true demonoid - disregard it.

well, if my account ends up working and my ratio is there, that would be neat.
I stopped torrenting stuff quite a while ago. Usenet is more fun...
