spreadsheets.
The common shortcut for this in some editors I play with is ctrl-arrows moves the screen not the cursor as you suggest.
I tried it in openoffice and it zoomed to the edge of the sheet. I think the scroll is a better use of the control key.
using scroll lock might make more sense, but it's two extra button pushes for a button that's out of the way.
oh, didn't know that. Its halfways what I want; but primarily it just jumps paragraphs, and therefore doesn't come into the first / last 20 lines if its scrolleable.
I don't want to turn it off/on frequently. I want it to be like that generally.
Finally got around to hacking my PSP with custom firmware.
:D 20 minutes and some delecate configuring gets me a psp with a large amount of capability (including playing .iso backups of umd games, and playing open formats of video)

Yes if the computer makes it obvious that there are better ways to do
things maybe we should do them. In this case, we should change our
writing to match grafitti, but until we do that, the machine should
conform to us, we shouldn't have to learn two.
...he writes to us, using a keyboard set up for QWERTY layout instead of ABCDEF layout. That layout was built in order to avoid getting hammer jams on the original mechanical typewriters. Why are you still using it?
(yes, we know, dothebart uses Dvorak, which isn't any more human than alphabetical order)
hammer jams on the original mechanical typewriters. Why are you still
using it?
I haven't seen a better system?
dvorak isn't a better system because lugging a keyboard with me everywhere isn't "better."
Has anyone played or is playing EVE Online? It looks interesting...but trying to install it is becoming quite tiresome. I wasn't able to get it installed via Wine under Mint. I had to boot up the other OS. I am in hour 7 of downloading and looking at another 10 hours. Not a good sign.
I was just playing it some a few minutes ago, and have been playing it off and on for the past several months.
It is a sandbox-style game (meaning the user community drives the game), with just enough missions to help you get going. If you ever do get it started, you certainly want to do the tutorials.
I recommend, after the basic tutorials, when you get to the point that you're doing to do the profession missions, do all of them. Don't let a single one of them get passed you. And do the military (not advanced military, just plain military) one first so you can get a decent ship for the others. The reason you want to do all of those missions is because:
1. You get a lot of ships, skills, and misc. other stuff for doing these missions, which helps bootstrap you into the game.
2. You learn a lot about the game mechanics in the process.
3. You get a better feel for the various roles you might want to fulfill within the game. You can do so many things in the game, ranging from the typical fighting stuff, to gathering resources, to contributing to the exploration of the universe, and various other support roles.
For an RPG, Eve Online is remarkably complex. It has a tremendous amount of depth to it. It has a vibrant user community that gets quite involved in a variety of ways, to include helping new folks get familiar with the game (through the help channel, in a rather official capacity).
I do not remember what was involved in the initial install for me, but subsequant updates never took very long. I bought the game through Steam, if that helps make a difference.
I hope that helps!
I just received a message from the EVE people...they suggest that I contact my ISP about the slow download speeds. This despite all the other complaints they get too.
However, I am having troubles at the moment. Internet speed test says I am getting 2.33 Mbps download and 2.53Mbps upload speed...so something is going on here. trying to isolate the problem. Should be getting somethiing reasonble close to 12 Mbps. At least that's what Comcast promises.
Well, I've narrowed it down to three things.
1. My router (seems unlikely)
2. My cable modem (possible)
3. two feet of water in the back yard covering the cable junction box.
Need to check the outside connections too. Might be a bad ground.
Wait... you play LOTRO?
I have a lifetime membership, even though it's free now (sorta). Do you play on Firefoot, or Vilya?
<laughs>
Poo... I have a level 60 Loremaster, with a nicely levelling weapon (at 60, your primary weapon can gain experience... kinda weird).
Hmm... I knew they made a significant update, but I haven't figured it all out yet. I'd been away for over a year, so I'm still getting my sea-legs, so to speak.
My poor house is locked down... gotta scrape up the money to pay maintenance.
Wait a tic... 'make' first age weapons?
Wouldn't that make them third-age-improved or something?
Canonically-speaking, that makes no sense. Not that it really has to, but...
How I wish we were on the same server... and if I could get my sister going on it as well, that would be nice.
Ah well... I've had fun with the staff and relic I have been working on. I recall managing to get a really nice pair of items some time ago, and have been working on levelling them up since then. They can both get to level 60, but are not quite there yet (I think maybe one of them is in the 40s).
I wish I hadn't run into the technical problems that knocked me off for over a year. Curse nVidia for making such crappy drivers for XP.
