So, i got into regular VDI today.

Does not seem too bad *and* i can do it via a browser, however you cant install anything being a 'shared pool'.. They have to build you a separate pool.  And i need 3 'extras' to do my job. So, might ask. Donno yet.

Said by someone on a conference call today:

"I'm watching my granddaughter today because her mother has a doctor appointment, and she's running late. So I had to go on a conference call with the baby on my lap. At first, she just kept saying completely incomprehensible things, then she just settled down and sucked her thumb. But isn't that really what everyone does on these calls?"

in my case its a cat in my lap, or a dog with a squeaky toy bouncing around the room.

Forgot, when my parrot was still alive, every time you talk on the phone or headset he thought you were talking to him.  So of course he would start talking back..  And being a nanday conure it makes it impossible to hear/talk.

Had to close the door and hide so he wouldn't hear me.

That sounds as cute as annoying. Parrots are amazing. Crows are very fun too.

We have lots of intelligent birds around my area and I love it when they nest in my barns.

You don't know how bad it gets until you attend an actual meeting, around a wooden table, and everybody else in the table is attending a virtual meeting with their smartphones at the same time. By this I mean, they are logged in to the meeting system but have the mic muted and check the phone every 15 minutes.

This management/human resources crazyness needs to stop.

Seems we lost 3 or 4 esx servers tonight.  200+ VMs vanished.   Took 3 hours to bring them back. ( took out the SMTP mail relay i use and one of my dev databases, so my apps started throwing errors out of the blue )

I guess they dont know what HA is..   And i wont tell them, dont want them to know i used to be 1/2 our vmware team  some 15 years ago.. i do NOT want to get sucked into that area again.

Neat. entire network has collapsed.  DNS is broke, authentication is broke.    The 'network and server people' have no idea what is wrong so called Microsoft. "there are issues with the network stack"

Glad its not my problem :)   Ironically my key pieces are still working, since they are off site.

Seems last night they patched DNS servers with some Microsoft OS security patch. that caused a boot loop.  Cant find out the actual patch #, 'its secret'.. ( after that last break-in pretty much every team operates that way now. Refuses to talk to anyone else )

1 - They didnt notice this? Oh, why should we check after a server reboots that its ok?

2 - They did ALL DNS servers .. primary and back up .. at the same time

3 - Apparently didnt test the patch..

GO TEAM!

( so if you do any patching this week, might want to watch for that :) )

Got to go up to the top of the statehouse dome today. its 13 stories in the air.   and yes, you have to walk most of it.  Spiral staircases, crawl thru holes in the walls.

But this time got to run around the rest of the thing, cat walks, maintenance areas.   There were rooms i never knew existed hiding up there.  HUGE things. 3 stories tall..

Fun times :)

There is no such thing, but being awesome at what you do helps. :)

I am getting a bunch of random LinkedIn messages today and was wondering why. Turns out this is the month of my work anniversary. It's actually on Feb 26 but LinkedIn only knows the month so it tells people on Feb 1. 21 years with the same company, which is a freaking eternity.

Oh, and one more thing: if you feel you need to put some certification you have as part of your NAME in LinkedIn, I am not impressed. In fact, I am anti-impressed.

I know it is going to sound extremely third worlder, but I happened to sell to one of my employers a bunch of footwear for the employees (which I actually sold myself because I own the store).

The boss (the one who throws staples at people) then realized my footwear is kind of crap. He told me he was gonna buy another par just for me.

That has totally made my day lol.

So our networking people are unable to figure out an IP that goes along with a DNS entry.  " we need the IP address, not the server name".

Is it time to retire yet? Idiots.

whoohoo i got approval to have my windowsvdi moved from the 'shared pool' to a 'private pool', AND i get admin rights to install my stuff.

"you now have to use the windows client to use it" ( and i suspect, on vpn or on site too... )

WTF  now its pointless.

Seriously? You have to use a Windows machine attached to the corporate network to access a Windows VDI on the corporate network? Someone has missed the point spectacularly.

Yep.

Unless i'm willing to use the 'shared pool' which has stock apps and i cant add anything, which makes it pointless for me.
