Our commuter railroads have either overhead power lines or a third rail. We use diesel for long distance rail, especially freight rail. Remember, we have much longer distances.

yea I know; since distances are shorter over here, there is less space so there isn't much dedicated freigt-rail in europe.

I guess the new highspeeed lanes are the first ones to make this distinction, next to the commuter rail systems in berlin that also have the 3rd rail power system..

unless you need to have something failsafe like the castor transport there is no need to have diesel freight lines...

most lines that have frequent traffic have overhead lines, so most freight railtraffic is also done with electric engines.

Keep saying the word "freeware" a lot. Maybe it'll make RMS's head explode.

Quick, question....

Are the solid state drives drop-in replacements for a standard hard drive?  (on my laptop).  That would probably rejuvenate and extend the life of my machine quite a bit.

afaik they just have usual pata/sata interfaces. most probably sata interaces will be more common these days.

maybe a CF adaptor will suit your needs too?

Here's an article from The Register about it:

Depends on how old your laptop is. Mine's too old for anybody to have made a flash drive for whatever goofy interface it has, but apparently newer laptops are whatever standard and you can drop 2.5 inch drives in.

Well...mine is old enough that it has a pata interface.  The ssd are either too small or outrageously expensive. Sooo....I'm kinda outta luck.  My job situation is such that it would be unwise to spend any money on new equipment at this time.  The laptop is just a luxury anyways.

The article in The Register does make a lot of sense. AMD could potentially be worth more to Dell on its own than as a subsidiary.

Some observers are also suggesting that there exists a clause in the AMD-Intel cross licensing agreement that would cause that agreement to terminate if AMD is acquired.

Seems pretty obvious, but it's all true. Once you learn those commands you can quickly key them in forever.
