Not making  light of it, as its a bad thing.   But we now have another summer of Canadian fires that are effecting tons of states  ( and of course up there too ). As bad as it gets, and seems like every year now, i'm surprised they even have any trees left to burn.

and along those lines, one consolation is now that its in full force here, its a constant haze keeping the sun from cooking me if i go out.   Still too freaking hot for me, but not being directly baked.. is good.

Lesson learned, when you have friends over that you trust, check your PC before you do stuff.   Else some processes may quit, and you might look stupid.    

• So Sam Altman, publicly has denounced open access to AI models and has been trying to even restrict access.   ( of course he has, hes a d-head scumbag who cheated his way to where he is now ).
• Recently one of his products 'somehow we don't know how but it broke out' attacked and hacked HuggingFace, the premier open access AI company.  
• They tried to ask his AI for help, it refused. Go figure.
• Only an open model saved their ass.
• Now that the truth is out, they wont even reimburse HF for the damage, or really even discus their criminal transgressions.
• NVIDIA ( ick.. ) Just now created a open pro-securty AI org.  Guess who didnt want to join.

Accident my foot. that man should be in jail. Even if it wasnt "directed" he "steered" and i bet they knew what was going on.

And if you like what Washington had to say, look into Franklin. He, Sir Francis Drake, and Winston Churchill are my heroes - but a little less on Churchill. Franklin was a complete manwhore. He spent all his time during the start of the revolution in Europe f'kin his way across the continent. But he was also smart. I realize its summer and it gets hot.  But really.. Mother nature, can you lay off a little bit? 90 heat index when its dark.. like at 11 pm is a bit overkill...

I just stay indoors as much as possible instead. And the top of the jeep, stays up.  Wish i had moved where i wanted to when i got out of college. But wasn't doable at the time.

So on the town i grew up group ( yes. fb, its rare i go, but once in a while to check out events and stuff before i take the dog out and get flooded with people ) someone posted a commented about some idiot on a bike, buzzing around people across the double yellow line at 3x the speed limit, in a rather curvy area.  AND flew past a sheriff in the process, who didn't even bother to blink his lights.

The response she got from some? "Well, no one got hurt, you should be aware of your surroundings anyway" and "welcome to the county" and "what is your complaint with this"  WTF is wrong with people today?

I get you can disagree with some laws as they are wrong, but when your illegal actions endanger others and are the entire point of those laws, you are in the wrong. Period.

While i wont wish the floods on anyone, side effect of all the storms is that today is finally a good day for us winter people. 60s, heavy clouds, no sun, heavy breeze. Perfect summer weather for us.    To bad it wont last, 90s, before heat index, this weekend again :( 

Bikers are a rare breed - and I understand that at 150 MPH you're a bullet if you hit something going less fast, or stationary... 

But at the same time - our traffic laws are draconian, and exist mostly to generate revenue for local city governments. If that wasn't true... listen... I got pulled over doing 67 in a 45 MPH zone - but it is an empty business park that is mostly data centers with 4 or 5 employees in a 40,000 sq/ft empty business center (post Covid). There is NO ONE out there, and it is a big sweeping road with 3 lanes in both directions with a huge center divider. I had choices... I could fight it, I could pay the fine, $250 plus points on my license, or I could take traffic class - $18... but $200 in taxes, registration, fees. It is a fuckin' gimmick for an offense that wasn't nearly what it was worth. I wasn't blazing through a school zone - I wasn't even street racing. And he wrote me up for 64, because 65 is a CRIMINAL offense - so he was being cool... because I was being cool. And... I have gone a LOT faster on public roads... impound and jail fast. Which is ALSO bullshit. 

Don't get me started about drunk driving. It isn't NEARLY the offense they bill for. 98% of the population has driven drunk, most of them multiple times a year. It ends up being a $20,000 bill for a FIRST offense - and it doesn't deter anything or anyone and doesn't prevent the chronic drunk from going down the wrong way on the 101 and plowing into a minivan full of Mormons going to Heritage Night. But the .01% of the time that happens, that is what the entire Drunk Driving Industry shows you on the TV to justify fining Jane Businesswoman from driving home from the company mixer with a .09 BAC. 

You can drive really drunk and if you respect that you're impaired you're probably safer than the teen kid in a Dodge Ram doing 110 that doesn't know what he is doing. Traffic rules are bullshit insanity in the US. 

I didn't realize when I drove in Italy that it is an "unofficial autobahn". I was in a Fiat 500, and I was getting run off the road - as it should be. I needed to be in the right lane 95% of the time. I figured that out pretty quickly. That is how it should be. The way we do it is stupid. 

Personal opinion. The problem is - we have so many American drivers who think they own every lane no matter what, as long as they're going at or below the speed limit - and you can just wait. 

And I know it is an unpopular opinion in America - but that is because MADD has been really effective at promoting this "Zero tolerance" for drunk driving policy in the US - which again - has more to do with the industry that has spun up around ENFORCEMENT of those laws. Billions of dollars annually, across the US - for schools, fines, installing breathalizers in cars so your car won't start if you blow ANY alcohol... it is totally Dolores Umbridge Government Nannyism. Some people will die because of drunk driving - EITHER way. I absolutely do not believe that our stricter drunk driving laws have had a measurable impact on drunk driving fatalities. They might have the numbers to suggest otherwise - but I think those are fabricated. Some people impaired can't operate a vehicle. Some people perfectly SOBER are impaired drivers. Some drunk drivers are BETTER drivers than naturally impaired drivers. There is no real way to weed out the ones that are going to find their way into a school bus. The interesting thing I think is - you KNOW it still happens - but they DON'T broadcast it on the news anymore - because that ERODES the narrative that harsh drunk driving laws PREVENT those kind of accidents. Every now and then you'll see a total wreck at a county or state fair with an Anti Drunk driving campaign telling you how the car ended up a twisted ball of metal - but it gets hardly ANY *news* coverage... 

Because if they admitted, "little kids in car seats in cars with airbags are still getting wiped out by drunk drivers even with all of our harsh laws," people would start going... "what are the harsh laws doing, then? 

Nothing. Well... generating a lot of money sending people driving home from touristy downtown bars for a night in jail and a $20k fine that makes a lot of companies wealthy. They are doing THAT in abundance. 

Total bullshit. 

Ok... end of the rant - but... you can get a DUI/OUI on a bike, eBike, skateboard, scooter... a boat, offroad vehicle, jetski, snowmobile - operating any kind of "vehicle," in most States, maybe all of them. Out in th middle of the woods, a salt plain in the desert where there is simply NOTHING to hit. That is all you need to know. It is just as severe as operating a Semi Tractor Trailer under the influence. It is disproportionate and designed simply to generate revenue. When it is zero tolerance and arbitrary and there is no defense - you know it is bullshit.

As someone who has lost a family member to the actions of a drunk driver, I have absolutely zero tolerance for any amount of sympathy to drunk drivers.  May they all die in a car fire -- literally.

However, there is a group of people even worse than drunk drivers, and that is MADD.  I would like to see each and every MADD member get killed by a drunk driver.  Damn nimbyist busybodies.

He uses floating chlorine pucks, like some low class plebe with a blow up pool.

Not saying i dont agree, as i do, but around here more accidents happen due to people on their damn phones than DWI.

It almost  ( almost.. ) makes me support a phone disabling mandate in cars if the engine is on.  ( and ya, i know, it would effect passengers too, one reason its 'almost'  ).  And 90% of the population have no business driving now, even without phones in their face, their skill level has dropped to dangerous levels. 

And the stupid ass multi touch screens cars have today, also need to be eradicated. they are dangerous too.
